Bullet Journal was developed by Ryder Carroll, an Art Director and Interaction Designer living in Brooklyn, NY. Through many years of trial and error, the system has evolved into the ideas presented here. We see this as an evolving, adaptable platform meant to be shared and self curated as you determine what works best for you. This website, in addition to serving as our thank you to our generous community, is a space where inspiration, organization, and general musings on mindfulness can live and grow with the support of our talented Bullet Journalists.

Excellent!
Another awesome video! 🎉❤
💯This is why I love using the Bullet Journal! I use it all!
I always wondered if I was broken because I couldn’t keep habits like everyone else. It all makes so much sense now why the important things that I’ve connected to mindfulness are the ones that stick. This is brilliant.
I’ve been trying to start since reading the book in 2019. Set up a few times but then not used! Kept getting confused with the difference between tasks & events.. & even notes sometimes. THINK this video has helped me get my head around it! We’ll see when I try again tomorrow! Thank you
Such a helpful video. Thanks
I love the reminder about the power of ritual. Thank you
I can't give multiple likes, so I'm leaving a comment. 😀 Seriously, I'm just coming out of a highly stressful three weeks, and this was exactly what i needed to hear to start resetting my brain.
Maybe this is what I need to try rather than continually attempting to create good habits. Thank you for sharing.
Where do you write down your intentions?
Hi Ryder, I don't usually write such personal comments, but I must say your methodology resonates with me on a deeply personal level. As an ADHD and autistic person, I've struggled my entire life to find a way to be organised and peaceful. I failed more times than I can count, but I never stopped looking for a way to be organised and still be myself. It all changed in January this year when I came across your bullet journal method and it has absolutely transformed my life. I've just finished reading your book, and with every chapter I read and every video of yours that I watch, I gain new insights. You have truly transformed my life. For instance, habits never really worked for me, no matter how much people swore by them. However, my bullet journal ritual does. Since January, I've shown up to the journal every single day and I've never felt more in control, more mindful and more at peace. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for everything you have put out into the world so far and what you are still offering. For me personally, you are making a world of difference. Thank you. Piotr
This is actually one of the most insightful videos I've ever watched! I have fairly many rituals established in my life - playing instruments, dancing, doing yoga, helping someone, learning languages, reading books, coding, ... But *none* of these are automatic, and this is in most part the whole point. The experience itself is so valuable to leading an overall healthier, happier, and in the end more productive (because good work outcomes often require mindfulness) life. Sam Harris always says "You have only one job, and it consists of two parts: be a good person, and pay attention.", I don't want to automate these rituals, reducing them to mere chores. I want to pay attention to these wonderful moments that make up my limited time on earth :)
I have been doing back and forth to digital planning vs Bullet Journaling ever since I’ve got an iPad and use it as my main computer. My BuJo ritual has been so ingrained in my system that I feel like I can’t replicate it using a digital tool.
I do have to think about my bad habits, I call that my overthinking anxious brain and being a lapse catholic with a tendency to self loath ritual 🥹
I get the message and yet starting and keeping rituals is as hard as forming good habits. Practically speaking they are in the same ballpark for me. I get the theoretical differences but engaging in a ritual kinda habitually is equally as hard.
Anybody can write a book telling people what to do. They’re almost all useless.
What a great video! I've never thought about rituals and habits in this way before and this new insight will definitely help me when I reflect on my current behavior.
This is not the place for your comments.
Excellent observations. Your points made me think about how habits are not very responsive to change, which is a big problem in our everyday changing environment.
I've always thought there was something wrong with me because I couldn't do "habits". But I already DO rituals. It was really helpful to hear you discuss the details of yours. Thank you
The idea of practicing the discomfort of not doing anything is such a good way of putting meditation. Gonna take that intention into my own meditation from now on!
"I don't have to think about watching youtube videos when I'm trying to get things done...' I feel attacked.
I write about what I know lol
Hay
As much as I relate to and find genuine value in this, I hate that I feel like I'm being attacked. 🤣🤣🤣
Ryder, I've been binge watching your videos, which have great content, and I'm learning a ton. Thank you! However, I've noticed--and have been distracted by your more recent videos--where it appears you are lip synching yourself...WHY? It's very distracting for this ADHD gal. To the point I have to "rewind" over and over to get a certain point. If you're having equipment malfunctions, can you just talk over some B roll footage? I have held off saying anything, but maybe am now one of a few willing to give you a heads-up: You're doing your content a disservice...and it pains me to say it. 😔
Learnng how to do reflections has taught me to become a better ‘thinker’, if you will. I find that during my days I think about my life and activities in a new way. I try and see things without judgment but with a clearer mind. In other words rather than rushing along helter skelter ( my usual path) Im reflecting on what I am doing, why and so on. I really like being a part of learning this incredible way to ‘ life scribe”. I am very grateful to BUJO for this method.
Affect a positive attitude. Don’t search for feelings and decide to placate any negativity lurking in thought. It’s about mindset, mindset isn’t just thoughts and feelings but like you say, perspective.
Man you look stoned 😎
I love this more than the OG Daily log method, it combines mood tracking, rapid logging, and live time boxing (in the moment, not pre-planned), and you can identify a lot through this system.
Bro this is so much better than the other guides on the internet that have you drawing all sorts of crap in the journal. Thank you for this!

Thank you so much for this informative video..This made my BuJo journey more effective by improving small things. Thanks a lot..!!
Re. Hemingway effect - he mentions stopping writing in the middle of a sentence in his book about his time of living in Paris, A Movable Feast.
Part of my problem tends to be that I constantly start and stop various methods of journaling and tracking/planning (like I'll get into something - either for a day, a couple of weeks, a month or three - and then I fall off from them after some time. Sometimes I jump back into it (and end up falling off again), and sometimes I don't. The only consistency I seem to have is drawing/doodling.
thank you
WOW! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WHEN MY ESSENTIAL SELF FEELS THAT THAT SO ELUSIVE LIGHT IS NOW NOT ONLY SEEN AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, BUT IT LIGHTS THE ENTIRE PATH, WHICH ALLOWS ME TO SEE THE PATH I FOLLOW BETTER. THE WAY IN WHICH YOU HAVE SAID THE MESSAGE IS PERHAPS THE WAY THAT IN SOME WAY GAVE ME THE MEANING TO ESTABLISH MY NAVIGATION COURSE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ADVANTAGES THAT THE PATH TOWARDS MY GOAL HAS IN PLACE. THANK YOU, IT'S LIKE A SECOND WIND.👍
Thank you for this.
This is the most useful and powerful video I watched in month of June. So so useful thank you brother keep your light shining you are truly a Lighthouse❤
He's right! My self talk before bullet journaling was: I never do anything or go anywhere. Once I started collecting movie stubs and other tiny memorabilia on my monthly pages and all the tasks on my daily pages, I realized that yes, I do go places and I do get things done. 💖🌞🌵😷
Interesting 🤔 I only use daily logs. Hate when I make a pretty weekly just to not journal at all that week 💀🤣 This has got me thinking though. I do like the timeline and reflection bit, and what did you call it, the action plan from month to month... 🤔🙂
Is this the same as a future log?
Thank you, thank you! I have recently gone back to bullet journaling after using a Hobonichi Cousin for the last couple of years and I am once again so impressed with this amazing system that you have curated and given to us. The bujo method is amazing and sharing your monthly ritual was powerful. I just completed mine for June and am ready for July. I love the flexibility of this system and how it truly can fit any aspect of my life at any given moment. Thank you so much for this video and I hope you keep sharing!
At the moment, tracking brushing my teeth is legit useful😅. Coming out of a doom spiral and have stuck a 30 day tracker on my bathroom mirror to help rebuild habit stacking- cos the one place im guaranteed to go everyday is the bathroom😂. AM: Toilet Brush teeth, take antidepressants- my day is won! anything after that is gravy
Oh, this is sooo good! Definitely adopting this! Thanks!

What is the source of this study? I’d be curious to read it.
I use to journal every day but after a month I looked back and all it was “I didn’t sleep well…..work was same ol same ol….made dinner (whatever I made and the review)” I felt like I was wasting pages with boring stuff. I did write gratitudes and the best part of the day but it was the same thing on a daily basis.
Try answering some questions every day. Like "What could have made my day better?" "What would I do for my best friend if they were sad?" (Then doing it for yourself of course😊). "What was the best hour or minute of the day?" Maybe try the Journal called "Question and answer". One question every day for 5 years. Highly recommend.
I feel like this is soo useful to implement .Personally never thought of journalling to be this useful

@@suzisaintjames thanks I'll start implementing that and one last question whenever someone journals their day do you begin with specific time slots for example: If I had to go get groceries at around 10am do I insert what I did at exactly 10.00am or within the span of 10.00 -11.00 am (I hope you understand my question)
@@teciRiver it all depends on what you need. A week or month from now, will you need to know how long you were at the store? Then you need the exact times. Will you need to know if you run errands in the morning or afternoon then a general time is cool. If you just want to know the last time you shopped, no times are necessary. After doing this for so long, I've done all three depending on the season of my life. There are no rules. Ask yourself why you're doing this. If it's the happiness factor like Ryder mentioned, then you need to write down how you felt about each task. Or your mood after each task... again it's about your why. Your journal won't be graded. Do what's helpful for you. (🤫 They say spelling doesn't need to be corrected but my perfectionism makes me correct spelling and punctuation... please don't tell anyone! 😉) Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷
I actually had some success with saying as soon as I woke up. I hate my life and everything in it. I know it sounds wild but somehow admitting to myself that I hate everything as soon as I wake up frees me to just breathe. It says yeah life sucks but I'm still going to get up and do what I need to do. Sometimes just letting yourself admit how you really feel can be cathartic
