I'm a Canadian, and I wish Newfoundland can return to being a country again. I kind of find it Tragic that Newfoundland forced itself into Confederation. We should be neighbouring brothers, not occupiers.

You didn't force us, Britain did, and it was in our best interest since we were literally bankrupt. Maybe if Quebec stopped shafting us and actually bought the power from Churchill Falls we'd be on an even keel!

I wouldn't say Newfoundland forced itself in to confederation actually quite the opposite. The entire reason the vote came up again is because Newfoundlands economy boomed to unprecedented heights with the American air and naval bases during WW2 to the point we were loaning London money in 1945. The terms of Newfoundland ending its independence in 1934 were to be only until economy viable again. There never should have been a vote and yet in the first vote independence won. Then for some reason Britain and Canada want a second vote and confederation barely wins 52 to 48. A recount is refused and the ballots burned. Occupation no doubt but Britain certainly played a role it was mutual. You wanna know the reason? The fear of an independent Newfoundland drifting further and further away into American influence. Newfoundlands geographic position could prove a vital weak point should Newfoundland ever be used by the Americans to blanket the Eastern Canadian seaboard from the UK. I deeply appreciate your sentiments nonetheless.

Much respect to Des Hynes. I had the pleasure of working with Des for one year doing behind the scenes work for Grand Central (by then Rogers took over) while I was attending college. Always a pleasure and I learned a lot from him. Wish I was still living in GFW so I could continue volunteering. It was a blast.

Dermot was a fine, gentle soul. I saw him at the Carbonear Folk Festival, in 1994, and later that same evening, we saw Fergie at the Bide Awhile. That show with Tommy Makem was actually produced out of Hamilton, On at the Irish-Canadian Club

Interesting that they used the pre-1980 lyrics to "O Canada" at the end, even though this is supposedly a 1990's era sign-off.

My family has a Canadian patriotic songs CD somewhere that has this song. It is quality stuff. Maybe you can find it on the internet somewhere. The CD is called "My Own Canadian Home". One of the main names in the liner notes, if I remember correctly, is Sheldon Ylioja.

Thanks for the post. Sorry for the delay in replying. Unfortunately there is only 1 more episode that I have in the archives. Hopefully there is much more at Rogers TV in Corner Brook, where the show was produced. The 2 episodes I have were copies that were made for the other Newfoundland stations to air. If you are a Rogers customer in the Corner Brook area, or watch the Corner Brook station on-line, they do show shows from their archives in a series called "CB Rewind". They have aired "Hooks and Hackles", "Homemade Jam" and other shows from the Shellbird/Cable Atlantic archives. Thanks

I produced the CB Rewind series at the Corner Brook station. We have hundreds of tapes in our archive, including all original episodes of Hooks & Hackles. The CB Rewind show was intended to celebrate Corner Brook's 60th Anniversary in 2016, so no new episodes are being produced for the time being. Great seeing some of the old programs on here.

I was watching the CB Rewind show over the Rogers web stream for awhile. It was great to see some of the old shows. It's funny, the only other episode I have was aired on CB Rewind, so I was worried there was only a few episodes left. That is wonderful news to hear so much has been kept, at least in Corner Brook. I worked with the St. John's station for a number of years. A lot of the master tapes from the Avalon Cablevision and Cable Atlantic shows in St. John's were thrown out and/or reused to save space. It is great to hear other stations preserved more of their shows. I managed to save a few garbage loads of tapes that I have since converted and are slowly uploading. Some of them were kept on master tapes, others were preserved on VHS. The Trivia Plus shows for example that I have were preserved on VHS. I know a lot of viewers must have shows recorded off air from Shellbird, Avalon Cable, Omni, Central & Cable Atlantic, I hope they can upload them as well so we can get a nice archive going. If anyone has episodes on tape, but do not have a way to transfer them properly, please message me. Thanks Again
