I really wonder when you're gonna talk about Bogotá in Colombia. the bycicle infrastructure in the city is the biggest one in Latin America and has increased along the past 4 years. also the cuty is building its integrated transport system after 70 years of plans for the 1st metro line. Hope you can some day come. Nice vid!

nah Toronto is none of this, a bit of a trap, nowhere to go, nothing to see. been here since 1996. all the terms line "diversity", etc, are nothing but a coping mechanism to make a second class city into something special. "Turning underused construction zones into works of art" if you consider graffiti a work of art, then ok. but not much real art here or real culture.

This documentary is infuriating. So much of what is praised in this video has made the city unlivable. Congestion has only gotten worse to appease the cyclist minority. Now they want to tear down the Gardiner which will be the final death blow to downtown commerce. Talk to actual business owners not just leftist hipsters and you'll get a much different story. Toronto isn't New York or London or Tokyo... It's subway system is abysmal in comparison. Invest in that, then install your stupid bike lanes.

It's actually the district in Copenhagen with the least cars per person which surprised me. Also the density can be somewhat confusing to gauge because it's not finished (even less so when the video was shot). It might not quite be Amagerbro Vest (on paper the "kvarter" with the highest density in Copenhagen) but it's also definitely not Gentofte-Hellerup. Right now Ørestad City kvarter has a density a little over 15k per km² which considering it's mixed use and partially unfinished is not that bad. Amagerbro Vest has 34k but is more or less exclusively residential. Ørestad City has 15k with maybe almost a third of the area being the Bella Center (I'm not kidding, that thing is humongous). They built some kinda pedestrianized streets there in an attempt to replicate other parts of Copenhagen or Barcelona or whatever. In My opinion it's still not very nice but on the numbers it's not that bad. I have mad respect for less cars than the people in the Brokvarter. They should get real and sell their cars right now. There's only 120 cars per 1.000 people. For Europe that's a ridiculously good number. Østerbro Nord has around 3 times as many cars per person. The fuck do they need that for? And I double checked, a higher percentage of Østerbro Nord are below 20 than in Ørestad City (and they almost obviously don't own a car) which makes it look even worse for Østerbro.

Bonjour! Urban designer Mikael continues to amaze us with his videos. We are retired educators back in Portland, Oregon after a long stay in Europe: 5 months helping a new school open in Lvivv, six weeks in Krakow learning about WWII, and one month in Tallinn. Each city had its unique approach to supporting human interaction and to maintane traffic. America has much to learn from Europe. PDX is implementing several bike and pedestrian friendly walkways and bridges. Long Beach, California is changing, too. We plan to move to France with the Long Stay Visa. Toulon looks perfect for us; beaches, walkways, calm traffic, and access to trains. And we love the healthcare! Merci! Dean & Cindy

Hi Mikael, I am a current member of the Paris en Selle association. I am so happy to see that what is shown in this documentary is now outdated as Paris is really starting to have a proper bike network ! It is definitely not perfect, but bicycle use keeps going up with crazy numbers : indeed, the last studies that came out from the Institut Paris Région are showing that bicycles are now used in 12% of all trips made in Paris, which is 3x more than cars!! You can count on us (Paris en Selle) to keep pushing for Paris to become a world leading city regarding mobilities and urban planning ! Hope you'll come back soon to make an update about the cycling revolution in Paris ! I'd be very happy to show you around the new infrastructure in danish ! 🇩🇰 Hilsen fra en fransk / dansk pariser ! 🇨🇵 🇩🇰

As someone who has been in Torontos for some years now , it interesting seeing the way Toronto has change in the last couples of years. This city use to compete with Montreal but now its so far behind in urbanism its not even trying. This city still incredible but self interest and individualism continues to lead this city and now thats catching up to everyone to a point even the wealthiest residents cant avoid.

Toronto is really-dull, drab, and boring. I travel a lot, and compared to cities like NYC, Miami, LA, Montreal, and San Diego, Toronto seems to lack its own identity and culture and is waaaay behind in many regards. Like the guy said " Toronto waits for other major cities to do new and cool things then copy them 10 years down the road and do it half ass" Instead, it feels like a watered-down mix of every culture represented here. The architecture is terrible, and city events like Taste of the Danforth or the Asian Night Market are really lame. I've lived here since 1989, and I'm really disappointed with what Toronto offers compared to other global-class cities in it's class. Especially when I come back from An Asian city like Seoul, Shanghai, or Toyko I can't help but feel like I've gone backwards in time. Considering moving to Montreal.
