Big Ole Words

Big Ole Words

Where ideas can hang out and do whatever!

This KZread channel is mostly about the Nintendo Entertainment System. I've been collecting for it since the Super Nintendo came out and my friends abandoned their NES cartridges. Damn, that was 30 years ago! As I got closer to a complete set, I started cataloging and writing about the best games on my website: Top100NESgames.com

After years of focusing on the best games for the NES, I decided to change gears and focus on lesser known cartridges that have, for one reason or another, generally escaped the public discussion and general nostalgia. The "NES GAMES NO ONE PLAYED" series highlights many of the relatively unknown titles in the NES library. There's also videos on the best 2-player co-op games, the PAL exclusives library, & obscure sequels to popular titles.

Didn't know that people still made awful Nintendo Nerd knockoff videos like this. The game looks fine, this guys outrage is embarrassing.

A 1984 game called Impossible Mission (I played the crap out of it as a kid on my Commodore 64) was perhaps the first game I played that was kind of like Metroid before Metroid was even developed. You didn't have power ups but you did get this pass cards to manipulate any given room. You had to search for puzzle pieces in every object in every room and you had only six hours to do it. Every time you die a certain amount of mins was taken off your time so you had to be careful. There's more too it but I won't spoil anything. If you ever get interested in it, avoid the NES version. Grab a Commodore 64 emulator and play that version. It's simpler than Metroid and not near as big but you might make the same connection I did. Plus the animation of your character is very very impressive. Might have been rotoscoped.

  • @user-jf6ij2jm4h

@@BigOleWords It is but mostly by look and feel. I think the game mechanics are different too. I loved it on the C64 but I tried it a couple of times on the NES and didn't like it. Epyx games just never translated well on the NES for some reason.

I think the same about this as others: amazing graphics and music, but too hard for the wrong reasons, and obscure moves. And could just use a quick once over by capcom or konami to clean up those rough patches like the switch in gravity in the jumps. Its very good, but it could be great.

When I used to get disks from a store for a week, I got this game one time. Honestly I liked it, but I do agree the first part is better. I am not sure why the occasional flickers happen only in this part of the series, maybe they just couldn't fit the whole code safely.

Imagine if Dance Aerobics had gotten Jane Fonda to put her likeness in the game, and had her market it to older middle aged women in 1988. Since she sold workout videos until 1995 there definitely might be have enough moms out there to have bought it randomly.

I thought I was the only one who thought losing all of your weapons and power ups when you die once was bullshit. Some of these games were so hard that the only way you can beat them was to have full power ups for your character. I honestly just chose to reset the game and re-get the power ups.

It looks like the creators never played it or dont play games, like they just said we want this to be challenging so just hurry up and put a bunch of obstacles out there on the screen with no rhyme or reason; chaos... Which is what makes it kind of an interesting game funny enuff.
