At it's core, the problem with 'obey' the head of the household, and the head always being the default male, is it assumes the male has the woman's best interests at heart. Unfortunately, that is often not true. That's why the best system is one with more equal power sharing, so that each party cannot impose their interests over the other's, they must negotiate. This causes each party to take the other's interests into account far more than any rhetoric or bible. As a society, women have realized this, and started advocating for more egalitarian relationships, so this way of life is no the way out. Women have simply seen from experience that 'man as head' often practically means 'wife devalued'

I was impressed by the way your community supplies all of your food, clothes and personal needs. Does your community take the income you earn through your work and encourage you, its members, to go out into the worldly places and supply the food and warm clothing needs of the lost, the poor, the sick and the dying? If you are warm and well fed but don't seek to supply the same for the poor, the lost, sick and dying then you need to read James 2:14-26. God will reward us according to the good works we do to His glory. These good works don't include normal work we do each day, but are actions that show Jesus' loving kindness to the poor, sick and lost. Revelation 22:12, 1Tim 6:17-18, Titus 3:8, Hebrews 10:24, Hebrews 13:16, This is simply doing what Jesus told the rich ruler to do. Matt 19:16-26. We are to live our lives in the Lord's power and as Christ Himself lived. Most of the Lord's time was spent with those on the lowest rungs of society, those rejected by the religious authorities of that time, the lost, the sick, dying, demon possessed and poor. He is our example of how we are to live our lives, of the priorities we need to have. His focus was not on himself or His needs, but on the needs of others. Phil 2:3-4. He didn't live in a lovely house, with all His needs provided for at the simple act of writing a note, or going to a dining room at the set time. He brought light to the darkest places in the society of His day, and still today His light is shining brightly, not in gated isolated communities that are hiding their light under a bushel, but through His children going out to the lost, the poor, the sick and dying and sharing His love with them. His disciples, we born again Christians, have His light shining in us. The day is coming when each of will have to give an account with what we have done with what He gave us. Matt 25:14-30. I pray you will use what he has given you to be His light to the lost, poor, sick and dying. Don't hide your light under a bushel, for we will all give an account to God for our good works, or lack of them. Your brother in the Lord. Royce

One of the fellows in the documentary said that he felt safe in the community and that all his needs were met .He didn't have to worry about things, as he just had to ask and he got what he needed. How does this safe lifestyle help you grow in your faith? What will happen if suddenly your life seems to fall apart, when you face death- multiply times, poverty and homelessness, when persecution and tribulation comes your way, when you are under heavy spiritual attack and there is no other human who can comfort you? It's when we live in the world that through the difficult, sometimes terrible times that we grow strong in the Lord. When He is all we have, we see Him doing the impossible and every day, absolutely every day we are utterly amazed at what He is doing, how He is continually doing absolutely mind boggling stuff to provide for and protect us. When I say mind boggling, I mean He does humanly impossible stuff that leaves our mouths open in absolute awe, amazement and praise. He staggers me with what He has done, so weI live in an excited expectation of what He will do each day. Because of our situation in the world, just for us to actually stay alive, He has to be doing staggering stuff, every second of every day and he is. There are stories you could hear of what He is doing in the world to and through His people that would blow your mind. Unfortunately where you are you have little chance of ever hearing of this incredible work God is doing in the world through His people. Christians are in a vicious spiritual war, and all wars are dangerous and messy. If we choose to withdraw ourselves from this battle and go and live in a safe enclave, then this is not scriptural. To live in a cocooned life isn't scriptural. We end up remaining as babies, on milk and not able to eat spiritual meat. Please read the verses below and ask yourself if these verses are relevant to your life, every moment of the day. Romans 5:3-10 2 Cor 12:9-11 John 16:33 James 1:2-4 From the Land Down Under. Your brother and soldier in the Lord Royce.

I was wondering about the doctors you have in the Bruderhof communities. Are these doctors employed in their professions within the community. If so about how many do you have per community as shown in the doco? I live in regional Queensland in Australia and we have 4 doctors in our town with a population of about 10,000 people. There are many times when I go into the waiting room and it's empty. Or are your doctors employed doing other work within the community?

I was wondering about Romans 16:3-4 we see Prisicilla and Aquila have a church that meets in their own home. How can this example of the N.T. church be fulfilled in a Bruderhof community? Do your communities break bread in family homes? Acts 2:46-47. The next thought I had comes from Acts 2:46-47, the new testament church enjoyed the favour of all the people, that means non-believers. How can a community that isolates itself from a lost world enjoy the favour of all the non believers. Christians are a light in a dark world. Is your community a light that draws the lost to Christ? How does your community grow, is it by your families having babies, new people coming in from other Bruderhof communities or Christians coming in to join? Acts 2:47- and the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Jesus COMMANDED us to go into the world and make disciples of all nations. To make disciples we need first to see people being converted, to be born again John 3:3. For your church to be organised according to God's design then you should be seeing regular new birth- newly converted non-believers to Christ. Matt5:14-16. From what I gave seen in this documentary the Bruderhof have hidden their light, while the lost rush headlong through the gates of hell. Have you no concern for them?

I just watched the documentary on the Bruderhof and was wondering if you could answer the following questions please. 1. How does the Bruderhof explain John 17:15 where Christ said He didn't want the Father to take Christians out of the world, yet your whole community has separated itself from a lost world that's going to hell, because they haven't heard the gospel. 2. How does each individual Christian fulfill the Great commission, a commandment given by Christ to all of us. Matt28:16-20. Jesus said we are His disciples if we fulfill His commandments. 3. The whole New testament emphasises that we are saved by grace unto good works. .Ephesians 2:8-10. These good works aren't us cooking food for our family or Bruderhof community or just doing our daily jobs, they are good works of kindness and love whereby we are lights on the hill that those who are lost in darkness can see and be brought closer to Jesus. Matt5:14-16. The Bruderhof are not showing Christ's love to the world, they are not loving their neighbours ( people inside and outside of the body of Christ) in practical ways. This community seems to be very similar to hermit monks who cut themselves off from the world and leave the world spin towards hell. I have a few more questions I'd like answers to, but I'll wait to see what your answers are. Royce

"Consider it the greatest of crimes to prefer survival to honour and, out of love of physical life, to lose the very reason for living". From the Latin poet Juvenal, Satirae, VIII, 83-84: "Summum crede nefas animam praeferre pudori et propter vitam vivendi perdere causas". The voice of conscience calls. Continuously, but gently. *

I have known people from Bruderhoff for decades since I used to live in New Paltz where they ran the local pantry distribution point. I have always been impressed with their dedication to the needs of others. Further, their magazine ( called The Plough?) is a well edited and thought provoking. Their way of life is not for me but I am grateful that we are not all the same. They were good neighbors.
