    When you draw in colored pencil on top of gouache, is it easy to get a nice dark crisp line? I want to experiment with the two mediums together without having to switch to acrylic. I've had trouble getting crisp lines with colored pencil on gouache but I suspect it's because the colored pencils I'm using are low quality.

    I ❤ Neocolors. In 🇩🇪 you can get a set of 15 for around 30€. I would go for these rather than the Sargent's. Neocolors are also lightfast and available open stock, if you need to replace them. I loved your colourful flowers!

    Hi Suzanne, I am considering signing up to this sketch book class as it’s on a great discount currently, but is it aimed at complete beginners ? After the initial talk through sketch books and materials, do you go step by step on how to create all the 31 different designs in the sketch book course? I know it may be obvious to more experienced painters but I know I need a more step by step approach to learning.

    I love your classes! Thanks for such positive work and sharing all of your process. I noticed you dont wash your brush in between dipping it in color. Does this effect your paints long term? I am a bit of a perfectionist about my paints and process since I came from Mostly doing watercolor before I discovered your classes. I worry that my paints will become muddy by not cleaning in between but I feel like it does break the flow to clean and make sure the brush is perfectly clean between plus the look is not as blended by cleaning in between. Would love to know more about this topic or if you have a video that would be great too.

    That's a great question and good idea for a video! I just like to keep going, however, I will wipe if off on a paper towel sometimes, I've been doing this more lately. I do like that a bit of the other colors is in the brush to help harmonize but it does depend what kind of painting I'm doing. Thanks for taking my classes, I'm so glad you enjoy them!

    Love what you say, l have an art room downstairs, full of everything!! Why don’t l go down there!! I tell others if you have a little space, start drawing, painting etc. This takes your mind off of things that are heavy and bringing you down!! Go start a project, and your mind mind will be so busy on drawing, painting etc. All those negative thoughts, go away ♥️♥️

    @SuzanneAllardDesign ive regressed to perfectionism. I have to force myself to paint most days because i just dont enjoy the almost constant pressure on myself that every shape and colour i put down must enhance and not detract. It makes me cry. Im broke financially, emotionally and phsically. I need to be able to enjoy the process to make an income selling art. Your video me reminded me of the simple joy of mixing colours, making marks for the fun of it, the importance of exploring, setting limitations to curb overthinking, just even saying outloud "ooo, thats a pretty colour",etc. I also appreciate the recommendations like listening to something so you cant focus as deeply, holding the brush loosely (i tried it. It felt freeing!), going in with an anchoring/unifying colour, breathing and looking into atelier activities. Huge heartfelt thanks for all your videos and the effort you put in. Sorry, for the long explaination.

Is that okay, and I am thinking of using one of your vases of flowers as inspiration for a tutorial? It’s bound to encourage people to subscribe to you too! Also I’m the same with sketchbooks. I have only started to use the concept of a completed sketchbook recently because it’s on trend. Before, I used sketchbooks for preliminary sketches, duh, but now they are their own art form, which is really challenging my brain!!! Hope you see this comment, maybe I’ll email you too in case you don’t check old videos. Take care, Diane x

    I’m so glad I found your channel Suzanne, I love your work. I was looking for reviews on the Tooli-art acrylic pens, but also what is the best paper to use with them, or any other acrylic markers. I have brush tip acrylic pens mostly,because I can’t always do so much shaking and prepping,and it’s too bad because these Tooli pens have beautiful colors. But I’m older and my hands not that strong anymore. In my experience I think marker paper or a smooth card-stock works better with these, even the watercolor paper absorbs the color too much. Or just smooth paper. The sketchbook you showed here, does it have smooth paper? If it’s not the right paper, when it dries the color becomes too chalky. So, I wanted your opinion,what do you think? Thank you so much,Judith

  • @SuzanneAllardDesign
    @SuzanneAllardDesign2 ай бұрын

    Hi Judith, sorry for the late reply, I'm traveling in Portugal! Smooth paper does help. Some of my sketchbooks are watercolor paper with texture and some are mixed media. I'm using the markers over paintings usually so not directly on rough paper. Mixed media is the best paper though and the Moleskine art journal is very smooth. Moleskine sketchbook: amzn.to/3Utf7mS

  • @judithf9297
    @judithf92972 ай бұрын

    @@SuzanneAllardDesign Thank you Suzanne for responding,wow Portugal must be beautiful. That’s a very nice sketchbook, unfortunately I either color in coloring books ( but only with pencils,the paper in those books is very thin) or I print line art and color it on watercolor paper,marker paper or something nice. I can’t draw,just color so I don’t use sketchbooks. I think I realized first acrylic pens/ markers a really smooth paper works well but also thick enough or a hot press watercolor paper. Actually somebody else suggested Borden&Riley Paris Pad,it’s 176 GSM. In fact I just git it from Amazon and it’s very nice for acrylic pens, it’s more like a marker paper,really smooth but thicker so it works well. Wish you the best and thank you again
