Oh wow this is awesome, as soon as I saw you applying a controlled wash with a nice brush I knew I was in the right place. In case I missed it in the video, do you have a recommendation for a high quality "all over" wash brush, similar to a medium citadel shade? I know the brush isn't as important as how its used when it comes to that, but I just know there must be a better one out there :D THANKS! Great work brother
The best video I watched
Amazing video, so helpful for this noob
This is something I can do! I like this because it's mostly : put paint here. There are no overly complex techniques here. It really is just thin your paint, go slow when doing fine parts, take your time, paint to brush to model. Thanks!!
Perfect! Thats exactly how I want my guides to make people feel, like it’s something they can do and painting doesn’t have to be complicated. 🙂
Sooo my dumbass for some reason read this as "How to thin your parents". Nice vid tho.
I build Gunpla instead of miniatures, but my god this is the best painting guide I have seen so far. I feel like I can start practicing confidently now. Thanks so much for this!
This is really REALLY educational, which I never thought it would be since the basis is 'add water to paint'. Goes to show that even the easiest things have tips, tricks and rules to them if you look close enough. :'D I only just started with a hobby that requires smooth application of white paint, yet it's really hard for me to accomplish that with a brush. But this should greatly help me figure out things. One thing I need to keep reminding myself, as I do not buy the same colours you use or rather I need to buy whatever I can afford and get in stores nearby: Each paint behaves differently and it needs adjustment. Which is something I never thought of or get told when asking for help, so I need to remember this.
Hello, i´ve recently been watching your guides and learning a lot about painting minis since i´m going to paint one soon, but i haven´t seen you applying varnish on your finished minis, is there a reason behind it or just personal preference? Sorry for any grammatical errors and thank you for being a mentor in this field.
Hi 🙂 Welcome to the hobby. So, yes I do varnish my finished minis with a matte varnish to protect them and prevent paint from rubbing off when gaming. I don’t tend to show it though, as most people have their own preference to how they protect their minis. The products I like to use are Dullcote from Testors (but this is hard to find now) and ultra matte from AK. I do mention varnishing at the end of some videos where I’ve used weathering powders, as it’s important to seal them to stop them rubbing off. Hope that helps? Thanks for checking out my channel 👍
Nice vidéo thanks ! If you use base coat of bone color from Vallejo, you can skip the first step, can't you ?
Thanks Do you mean prime with a bone colour? Yes, absolutely, if your model is going to be prodominently yellow. Then priming it with a bone colour would enable you to skip the first step for sure. I included the painting of the cream layer for people who may be painting just a yellow detail on a model. As this process works great for that too. For example, yellow shoulder pads on Space Wolves. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey, can someone tell me why to use contrast medium with the contrast paint instead of just using the contrast paint straight from the pot? (new to painting)
that's a great question. So, the quick answer is to change how strong the colour will be. If you think of a contrast paint being like a dye and it staining what you paint it on to. Some times that strength of staining is too much and it overpowers everything underneath. By adding contrast medium you can reduce the strength of the staining and make it more soft and allow more of the colours underneath to show through. Give this video a watch, it'll help explain things in more detail kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3V4u7OKf6ufkZs.html if you have more questions, just let me know
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Sorry if the question is too specific, but I'm planning to use Vallejo Dark Aluminum on my Necrons. What would be a good color for edge highlighting them?. Can I simply add white to the metal color, or would that be a bad idea?
@@themate1065 so, to highlight a metallic gunmetal colour you’ll be wanting a bright silver. As metals have sharp bright highlights No, adding white to it won’t achieve a lighter metallic. If you want to lighten a dark silver you need to mix it with a bright silver. That way you maintain the metallic nature of the paint but lighten the overall tone. Hope that helps
Can you do this washes technique with thinning normal acrylic paint? Or repeat the constrat effect with normal paint? Still waiting for my washes paint set to come so I'm looking for alternative ways.
For the necron videos youve done did you paint the pieces seperately? I’m in the US and the Darkstar metallic is rather expensive to ship. Are there any similar alternatives? Thanks!
All jokes aside, I thought of doing this same paint scheme on an imperial AT-ST (Star wars). Bandai/Namco makes some really great Star Wars models and after not doing a model since the 90’s it was a blast to do! Thanks for the video!
What brushes to you recommend? The ones I use lose the sharp tip after just a few sessions. Brush care tips? Also, great job here! The finished paint job looks amazing. I’ve never heard of this game but dwarves in futuristic armor? I’ll need to check it out.
Thank you I recommend Artis Opus brushes. They’re all I use now rb.gy/w3lzt5 And for brush care and general tips, give this a watch kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZx2qsORmJvPm9I.htmlsi=sUQEkLbW0kPOHSKS
I saw black and gold and I clicked. Love that color scheme!
Thank you If you’re into black and gold schemes, you’ll love this one too 👍 kzread.info/dash/bejne/ioyNqKOdh8_PaJM.htmlsi=Xla32elx2xKzeQYW
Bob Ross level instruction and relaxation! Thanks! I’m fairly new to mini painting and I’m currently painting my friend’s Skaven army, all of whom have glowing warpstone objects on them, so this is helpful. I’ve been using dry brushing to simulate glow, but I like your method of using the white with shade paints.
Interesting Top Down Primer application. I shall copy this technique. 😁😁😁😁
Thanks for the video. Would also like to learn how you did the effects in the marines boots and lower legs. Really helped make the base and the model seamless.
Thank you Take a look at the Extra Details chapter of this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/kax-lrVroJSWnNI.html&si=v6ITAEMB6GG8G3hW
It's incredible how misleading the first coat of paint looks while it's wet. I would have never believed it to turn out that smooth and decently opaque ... Whenever I used fast paint, I would always be afraid of it not covering enough
And I think that’s what a lot of beginners really struggle with. They panic that it’s not going to look right, so they pile more paint on and then when that dries it looks bad and they don’t know why. That’s why I wanted to make sure I showed the whole process so people can compare it to theirs and hopefully see where they may be going wrong. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
Very helpful!
Thank you for watching Glad it was helpful to you
Great info to a beginner!
Thanks very much Really glad to hear you found the video useful 👍
Great video, short, to the point, easy to learn from, thank you!
Awesome! Exactly what I wanted it to be 👍
This CAN'T be real... smh
Dude you're crazy for painting every rock. Just add brown paint to your spackle, get grey rocks and seal them with watered down mod podge
I’ve been trying to find a good example of washes and how to apply them and i found it. You’re a legend mate
Diy grass tut, all you need is a wizard box!
How long did this take you?
It’s from quite a while back, but from the length of the video I’d say the overall paint job was about 7-8hours to do.
You are scuh a great painter, literally one of the few people who drive me to keep improving and painting. Send you all the love from germany!
Thank you, that’s so nice of you. Really appreciate the support 🙏
😂😂😂😂 watching this video to satisfy the algorithm gods as i really appreciated the how to thin paint video so watching some others to pass the time. I laugh because I didnt want to assemble my mini until I had blu tack and I purchased blu tack earlier today.
haha what are the odds? It truly is the best hobby product which no one ever mentions. Thanks for helping to support the channel. You're so right, those algorithm gods are never satisfied. I hope the video gave you some new uses for your blu tac though and you found it useful? Please please keep watching more on the channel and feed that algorithm :D
I feel like if i have paint that is as wet as in the first two blobs of blue and purple, it doesnt stick to the model or just isnt as colorful as i want it to be. Am i doing something wrong?
Have you watched my video on paint thinning? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pXZ4uLKofrvfhqw.htmlsi=_5Rd4al8zDC7nvNZ It explains things better than I can in a comment here. It also shows the paint being applied so you can compare to what you’re currently doing. Hope it helps 👍
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides i will watch it right now :)
@@winterh46334 awesome, let me know what you think
This is awesome. Thanks :)
I loved I have used as a Guide for mi Kronus Hegemony Army
Why don’t paints just come ready to paint?
This looks gorgeous first of all, second, silly question, but the thing you have when you're painting, like the little base and the little spike that attatches to the foot, what is that? I've been gluing my minis to my bases but i realize this little contraption you have would be easier for me to actually paint my models with
Thank you. For my painting handles I just use corks and paperclips Give the chapter on paint handles a watch in this video, I explain it better there kzread.info/dash/bejne/fax6mtZvm5afk6g.html&si=UqPs03nzk91fjBqm
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides kickass, thank you
The Paint Bundle isn't on the website for this model?
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check with Element what the problem is. 👍
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Thanks if you can let me know when back up that would be great
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides any joy?
@@DrewLewis-pz5hs yes, they’ve been in touch and have said it should be available in the next day or so. 👍
This is an incredible guide. Well done.
TLDR you have to eyeball it. Theres no specific amount because pigmentation is so volatile. For example, white is chalky because it has a higher pigmentation to medium ratio, while yellow is so transparent and soft because it has a lower pigmentation (or at least in my experience). The amount of flow improver/thinner/water you use is entirely dependent on the amount of pigment in the paint, so it varies based on your personal instincts with how the paint feels, and the brand you use, with margin for error in the mixing process like paints made in the same factory and put into the same pot 5 years ago will be different in consistency to the same paint years in the future. I remember something about citadel changing its recipe in 2023 so the paints are slightly different.
Awesome and easy too follow guide thankyou 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great content! Just found you through reddit/Instagram
I just bought some of the tesseract paint to start the process earlier today. This helps a lot. Ill try duncans white - will pick up tomorrow
Could do with ratio of water to paint
my toxic traight is seeing this and thinking it's easy without ever painting minis lol. Great stuff man
Haha thanks man That’s what I’m here for, to make you feel like “I can do that” Cos you can. So what you waiting for? Get painting 👍
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides I am just getting all the necessary equipment ready and making space. I'm in the planning phase as I don't have much space but will make do! Chose a chapter already and once everything gets here I'll start and see how "easy" this is lol. Thanks for the videos they're really helpful
This looks really good - less def is more. How do you do that with black armour? I think I like Ferisian Grey most, then adding some metal colours where the damage is the deepest. How do you normally do this?
After losing a piece in the drain, I wash the models before cutting the pieces out.
greate video; now i fulyy understnad contrast paints; i undarasdad shdae elrel but contras was a bit confusing
Loved this!!! 🤩😍 total beginner here 🙈 totally amazed at the “blob thing/technique” Thank you so much 😊
