The Real Gardener

The Real Gardener

Society's growing disconnect from nature is unfortunate. In this age of food industrialization, we must honour the practices of our predecessors. Organic gardening has a rich history spanning over 10,000 years. We used to cultivate high-quality, organic food for our families, but now we settle for nutrient-poor, pesticide-laden produce from our "trusted" grocers. Some say the days are gone, but I believe in preserving the good things amidst change.

Consider this: today's grocery store apple contains roughly 25 times fewer nutrients than one from 1914. To match the nutritional value of the past, you'd need to consume 25 apples in one sitting. Our current practices have depleted everything, unlike ancient methods that were less harmful to our planet. Although some may argue that there is no longer a reason to care, that is the exact mindset that needs to be eliminated.

I'm here to assist those who still care deeply. May the Lord be with you always.

If you want to ensure the eggs hatch, leave them outside until you can see their little black head on the tip of the egg. Then bring them inside. This always works for me and I haven’t had any issues with them hatching.

Do use softwood or hardwood rosemary cuttings for rooting in soil & water?

  • @therealgardener

For rosemary, I use semi hardwood or softwood. Semi hardwood is basically when the cutting is rigid but still green. And you know softwood is when they are still bendy. Let me know if you try it!

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointment. The thumbnail shows the late-season blight on my tomato plants' leaves. In this situation, most people would chop and drop their plants to cycle the organic matter. However, by doing so, you are putting the blight back into the soil to kill your plants next year.

Your tomatoes don't have blight, those leaves are just damaged, blight forms black patches on stems eventualy spreading to the fruif and blackening both green and red tomatoes, plants should be pulled up roots and all and placed in bin bags to be disposed of with general rubbish but if possible burn the affected plant with other garden debris that cannot be composted!

  • @therealgardener

The problem with plantain, is that this plant may be useful as a medicine, given to enhance the coaguability of the blood, but, given to certain person, old, or at risk of developing a clot for any reason, it may dramaticaly resolve into an ischemic accident, such as a stroke. This is something definitively not to be considered simple food by people who are not used to it since childhood, or a long time. Anyone who already suffered a stroke, or a heart crisis, should even not think takink this plant.
