    Do you recommend to plant trees as many as possible or to fullfill certain number of trees?

  • @RuletheGame2023
    @RuletheGame20233 минут бұрын

    I have gone for having all kinds of trees in my forest before, but I don't do that anymore since I think that it is too much effort for not enough points. I have won by having the largest number of trees many times though. Sometimes so that I can get points from the number of trees but lately also because all of my scoring cards were on the same side of the trees and therefore, I needed all the trees to put down the scoring cards. I have even started using saplings regularly since they have no cost but they still count as a tree and you can use them for your scoring strategies.

    I wonder why you dont mention the combined (roe, fallow...) deer+wolf strategy. deer allows you to place another deer. you get heaps of point for other cards. roe deer for the color icons, deer for the trees and fallow deer and wolf for other deer. They are usually highly in demand in online games on bga :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fINkpc6RYdWbo7Q.html

    Don't forget some trees are cheap to place, but you can get a new card for it. So in 1 turn you can place a card and get a new card. Evenso with mushrooms if you get them in the beginning of the game. I don't play for the hase and vox anymore, not for birds anymore, mostly cards under the tree and wolfs and dears and a lot of trees (15+)

    Nice video, with some good examples of strategies that you can follow. A thing that helps many specific strategies is focusing on supporting cards instead of the cards themselves. Having a mole will drastically improve your ability to play many free cards, like the hares, the butterflies or many of the plants and frogs. If you focus on getting a lot of trees, with several Sycamore trees in your forest, you can also just dump any card you don't want as a sapling using the mole, making your turns really efficient and creating space to play more cards on them. Another important card with specific strategies is the Racoon, not because it specifically is meant for a strategy, but it allows you to dump all the cards in your hand that you don't want and cycle through it for new cards. I've often found myself stacking cards until I have 10, before playing anything. But if you want to optimize playing your big Mole turn, you can use the Racoon to dump all the cards you don't need, but not giving away anything good to your opponents. Instead of playing suboptimal cards, this allows you to generate some points while doing so and also draws way more cards than you otherwise would be able to. Also keep in mind the mushrooms that help with playing certain cards. If played early, they simply allow you to see more cards, but also give you more resources to play with. An early mushroom will have a huge effect on the game if you can use it several times. The Chanterelle will help with all the tree strategies like the Sycamore, Horse Chestnut or Oak, the Fly agaric will help you when you focus on hares and foxes, the Parasol mushroom will help with plants and amphibians and the Penny Bun will help with Birds and Butterflies. Not only makes this playing cards more efficient, you see more cards than your opponents, which is a huge bonus over an entire game, making the investment worth it. Lastly I really like the counterplay, especially in 1v1, that you always fill the clearing with cards your opponents need, so the clearing will be wiped and they won't see them again. You can do similar things with a Bear, if there is a lot of cards that are good for your opponent in the middle. Even just a bear for 6-7 points can be worth it if it denies your opponent some key cards.

    Well there’s my favorite the bat 🦇 strategy. Unfortunately you need at least 3 different species of bats in your forest to score points. However there are 4 species of bats and 3 of each so it’s possible to get them all especially if your opponents are not going the bat route. Once you have 3 different species each and every bat you have is 5 points. Of course there’s more to it, it might take time to pull off, because you’ll also want to find a gnat, the gnat will allow you to play bats for free. Now if you only have a couple of bats it’s best to use your gnat ahead of time, there’s a good chance you might get another gnat. Also getting doormouse on the same tree as a bat is good too, but the bats and gnat should be the first priority. Of course if you can get a couple of tree frogs too even better. Because they score if you have gnats. So while you’re at it getting some common toads and the tree fern will ultimately give you a huge score! That’s why I call it my amphibian, gnats and bats and door mice strategy!

  • @Animal_board_gamer
    @Animal_board_gamer7 ай бұрын

    @@RuletheGame2023 yeah if you go the bat strategy you have to focus on the bats before the dormouse, you have to get 3 species of bats first, then you can play the dormouse. And more bats too if you want. I also made 8 videos of 8 different strategies in forest shuffle for my KZread channel. I’ve uploaded most of them already.

    In our games, the bats (and door mice) were the cards that were often left in the middle, as more people went for the bigger animals like deer, wolf, lynx and boar. What happens usually is that a ton of trees get used as payment for cards, with only minimal animal cards being left open in the middle. I know it is kind of obvious, but It is usually best, especially in 3 or 4 player games to simply focus on the types of animals that are being left open by other players, instead of of choosing any that other players are competing with. Try to focus on the important ones first, that have only a few of them. In this example it isn't the bats that are scarce, it's the gnats. As long as you get at least 3 different bats, any bat will do.

Nevertheless, the hints for the first game are still valid: wild boars with squeakers, door mice with bats and salamanders were part of the winning strategy in this high-scoring game. But also the horse chestnut remains a very strong strategy.
