Tokyo Tech

Tokyo Tech is the top national university for science and technology in Japan with a history spanning more than 140 years. Of the approximately 10,500 students at the Ookayama, Suzukakedai, and Tamachi Campuses, half are in their bachelor's degree program while the other half are in master's and doctoral degree programs. International students number 1,800. There are 1,100 faculty and 600 administrative and technical staff members.

In the 21st century, the role of science and technology universities has become increasingly important. Tokyo Tech continues to develop global leaders in the fields of science and technology, and contributes to the betterment of society through its research, focusing on solutions to global issues. The Institute's long-term goal is to become the world's leading science and technology university.

What we need is a battery technology that delivers a power density of 2kWh/kg, zero to full recharge times of less than five minutes, and capacity loss of less than 1% after 10,000 cycles.

If you want to save nearly all the energy in regenerative braking, then capacitors allow for that, as batteries cannot absorb energy or recharge fast enough. Capacitors are needed for that and to double the lifespan of regular batteries. You may not see them though as they can be integrated into the battery itself.

I don't believe the claims of solid state batteries because If solid state batteries have twice the energy density and 5 faster recharge time they would never need to be charged on an ebike that has regenerative braking because regen brakes already charges batteries up 25% each ride so x that by 5 and you've got 125% recharge each ride (an ebike that never needs to be charged at the wall).

Usually it takes 5 to 10 years before lab experiment becomes marketable product. That is, if no other competing invention is developed during that time. Behind every technologies we see today, there are thousands of lab projects that never saw a chance to become a product on the market. Flash memory technology, for example, was introduced in 1980s(at least to my knowledge), when the hard drive technology was still in its infancy and the capacities came in mega bites and there was no term "Flash memory" yet invented. It took digital imaging revolution for the flash memory to become household name by 2000. It's still developing today to the potential it was promised in 1980s. When it comes to battery technology, there are hundreds of competing experiments worldwide. It has a potential to become $trillion market, of course everyone wants to claim the winning technology. Only one will be named the winner.

She invented the glass batery. That batery works from -60° célsius. Charging in minuts and have the capacity off charging 23000 cycles.

Scientists around the world have been trying to perfect solid-state batteries for around sixty years now. Three cheers for the scientist at the Tokyo Institute of Technology for their hard work and amazing accomplishment. If this discovery/invention works out, it should revolutionize the battery industry. We certainly live in exciting times.

DrDread This video is based on very old information. Tesla with Panasonic is already producing much more advanced chemistry cells, which will reach the cost of 100USD/kWh by the end of the year... Tesla battery packs, which are quite large (75-100kWh) don't use capacitors. in fact they can output 400kW for 1-2 minutes sustained.

No worries, the man who developed the lithium ion battery is also deeply involved in other solid state battery endeavors, such as ones based on sodium (extremely plentiful, environmentally friendly, safe and inexpensive). There are many companies outside of Japan that are zeroing in on this technology.
