"Let's see what is in the Grass..........."
Hey, do you still have these? Do you still recommend and can these inserts go in just about any sunglass that’s meant for mountain biking or is it only specific for that Oakley frame? Thx
Yes I still have them and love them! Go to the SVED website and you will see which glasses they make these for, there are lots! In some cases you may need to send in the nose piece that came with your frames to be modified to accept the lenses.
Super entertaining pre ride as usual. Dusty Tsweet Tsue is an understatement!!
Dang that surprise at the very end is craaaaaazy!!!
It sure is! Huge news!!
Those are awesome im going with this setup...thank you!
I’m sure you’ll love them!
Great review. I have Smith Ruckus with multiple lens options depending on light conditions...The SVED seems better than the ODS 4Rx Adapter that has steel that could be a problem in a major crash MTB... Thank you so much for the reviewing SVED
Thanks for the kind words, are you using the SVED insets?
@@letsgoridebikes I will be. Just got another Smith Ruckus to send the nose piece....
@scottpater awesome, I’m sure you’ll love them!
Wowza
Nice one men :)
💯
How much did you pay for those glasses, including the prescription Rx?
It was right around $400 before insurance coverage.
@@letsgoridebikes Thanks for the info. One thing for your viewers to keep in mind: with an insert you are looking through 4 surfaces, instead of 2. So if there's dirt or fog or even overhead light coming down between the lenses, you will see that. I just put prescription sun lenses (polarized and with gradient) in a good pair of sunglasses that rise above the brow and it works much better. Super clear, lighter, no internal frame to obstruct view, and you can have the bottom of the lense boosted to +1 diopter, so that it is easy to see the computer. Price was $420 for just the lense, but I already had a sunglass frame ($50).
@bengt_axle I’ve never had issues related to fogging, dirt, or light refraction.
dur, run proper tire pressure, its dry, which means max psi. less psi doesnt equal more grip unless its wet.
That was most certainly not the issue!
Awesome! Did you get anti-reflective coating? If not, do you have issues with reflections? Thanks!
I did not because the Oakley lenses are polarized (Prizm lenses) and it seemed like an unnecessary added cost.
Thank you, I have ordered my Sutros and when I like compatibility with my helmet I will order the SVEDs.
No problem, happy trails!
Scoping out this trail for the summer. You guys are FLYING compared to the other videos out there! Well done!
Would not recommend that pace the first time through haha
@@letsgoridebikes haha oh I’ll definitely be going slower, walk some of those tech and exposed sections before riding. That very last corner with the exposure to riders left looks a bit puckery haha
@ivanmtb00 that is not the worst one, just looks like it on camera
@@letsgoridebikes that’s good to know! Thank you!
@@letsgoridebikes I should add I totally get the GoPro effect too!
The RX seems to be kinda floppy. Do they tap against the inside of the glasses while you’re riding (especially in chunk)???
They are not floppy once you put them on. The nose piece keeps them firmly in place. I live and ride in a zone full of chunk and have never had an issue.
How tall are you on the Large 5010?
I’m 5’11” which usually puts me right on the edge between M and L for most brands.
I am using 5010 CC but 2019.. still good I think
As long as you are having fun on your bike!!
In Canada as well, facing the $600+ option and came across your solution for using inserts! Much appreciated
Hope you love them as much as I do!
Trail looks awesome! Dope Chromag!
Trail is awesome and the Chromag is freaking awesome, I love this bike!
Hello, I like your kitty cats what is it a boys or girls? What is name it look like my little kitty cat I used to have she passed away in 2013.❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for the video. Nice glasses.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching the video!
Superb video.. I was also searching for this solution and that’s a dearth of such kind of honest videos on YT CHEERS 🍻
Thanks for the kind words!
Do you have the site for that particular Oakley sunglasses?
I got them at my local bike shop, Freedom Bike Shop.
Not sure if I commented before because this is not the first time, I’ve watched this video. Best SVED optical review I’ve seen by far. Mine are arriving today.
Thank you for the kind words! I hope you love yours as much as I do mine!
I like the "I Ride For Tree" callout. Miss that guy. Got the same sticker on my beer fridge.
not just for sports, also, you dont have to get wallet busting oakleys!
There are lots of options for compatible frames that you could use for anything you want. But I was specifically looking at these through the lens of mountain biking ;)
Thank you so much, I'm in the process of building my next bike, and before the spring I wanted to sort out my glasses situation. Currently, I just wear lightly tinted sunglasses that have a XL lens it's okay but through chunk, I constantly need to push them up. I love the look of the sutro's but they didn't have a prescription option. So thankfully I came across your video/review are the lenses your running the trail-specific ones?
Yes, I have the prism trail lenses
You guys have too much fun
Bikes are an awful lot of fun
Who won?
The 16-21 men’s group had the fastest times of the day.
I drink everytime you said hardtail
lol
What a unit of a bike
I’m not sure if this is a compliment, but thanks!
I have these inserts (as does my wife), and they rock! SVED is a great company to work with, super accommodating, and very prompt. We couldn't be happier with this set up.
100% agree!
Any updates ? Have you noticed any issues? Does it give you a fish bowl affect? What would you estimate the savings over just getting Oakley prescription from them directly?
So far no major issues and I love them. I’ve had several crashes and they have proven to be quite durable. I haven’t noticed any fishbowl effect, it’s been no different than any other pair of glasses I wear. It saved over $300 CAD compared to getting RX frames and lenses from Oakley, which they don’t sell direct to consumers (at least not in Canada), have to buy them through the optical store
@@letsgoridebikes thanks very much for your response. I will give them a try , was reluctant but now I feel somewhat comfortable to try. Thanks very much
@jamesturner9858 I hope you love them as much as I do mine!
Thank you for the information!! I've been looking for the right way to go with glasses for MTB, just getting back into the sport!! Thank you so much for putting this video out there!!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
The description of the bike he's doing is so cute. I bought a Rip Rock 24. Does the wheel and tire support tubeless? Did you just work on the rim tape?
I gorilla taped the rims and installed tubeless valves. It took some pressure to get the tires to seat, you pretty much need a compressor. If it unseats while on a ride from a flat tire… well you better have a tube.
I'll carry the tube, but I was wondering because I basically prefer tubeless. Thanks to you, my curiosity has been solved. Thank you. I hope you are always happy with your son. :)@@letsgoridebikes
Thanks, riding together is one of the most amazing experiences!
Do you happen know an exact kick stand that will work with the Rip rock 20? I have no problem taking it off when we hit the trails, but for the standard neighborhood riding, it would be nice to have a kickstand on and would help take care of it. Specialized doesn't make one for the riprock 20 and I can't find an after market one that is compatible. Do you happen to know of an after market kickstand that would work?
I don’t know, sorry! Just teach your kiddo to put it down so the drive side is up, it’s a good habit to learn as a mountain biker!
Well well, I ordered some of these last week and now YT seems to know.... 😂 Thanks for some confirmation that Ive done a good thing. Its amazed me for years that all these big name glasses manufacturers seemed to ignore the prescription sports niche. Looking forward to my Sutro upgrade one they arrive 🎉
Haha not really a surprise there. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!
they dont ignore there are much better options then in the video, rudy do loads of options much better then an insert, they have optical doc on rydon slims, rudy project
@diorocks5858 disagree. Looked at Rudy Project options and found them to have the same limitations as other prescription sunglasses for mountain biking. The Rydon Slim model you mentioned are ugly and don’t offer the same full coverage as something like a Sutro for mountain biking. From what I could tell, the Rudy Project frames still mostly rely on inserts, but it’s proprietary to their frames. That’s a negative in my opinion, while SVED makes options for various makes and models.
@@letsgoridebikes no you dont need insert you can use the optical doc. Best alternative to Rudy is Julbo
Still only a few options that accept RX lenses, and most of them are ugly and aren’t an ideal shape for mountain biking. Too much of a compromise.
I may have an idea for you :)
This will either include significant suffering, or be a lot of fun.
CORRECT -BOTH@@letsgoridebikes
Do the lenses seem to be a decent distance from your eyes? I worried they'd be way closer to my eyes than usual. Anyway glad you posted this, there is so little out there and most advice is to wear contacts, which I can't do. Feeling more optimistic now lol
They don’t seem any closer than my regular glasses, I have long eyelashes too, so it’s pretty normal for mine to touch a little. It has never been something that’s bothered me though.
Do you guys still enjoy riding regular mtbs?
Absolutely!
@@letsgoridebikes What would be your approximate split of each?
@bigb7422 I’m not sure about Josh, but I don’t actually own an ebike, but any chance I get I will take one out. If I did own one, I’d probably ride more!
Fantastic! Such a fun experience alright, definitely gives back what you put into it. Powerful, just point to where ya wanting to go, hammerdown, hold on 🤩
Where is the impossible Climb? Regrettably - I cannot afford said E-Bike
Going up Boneyard Connector
They are super fun, they have their place. My issue is range anxiety, it almost ruins it for me, almost!! I think once we don't have to worry about the battery life, E-bikes will be perfect.
How much range do you feel you need? With a 700whr battery I’ve managed rides up to 55-60km!
I honestly now ride twice as much on my Kenevo, NEVER shuttle anymore and it’s fun fun fun EVERY time
💯
@letsgoridebikes whats the trail?
Looks like some were Sidewinder, Corral, Drops-a-Lot, some Rollercoaster, Flowcoaster
I miss riding bikes.
Me too!
Thanks for the information!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for your video, From where can I buy this insert for M frame Oakly
I ordered mine online from SVED optical, you can go to their website and see if they have an insert for your frames.
Great review. To ride like that for most of that ride, knowing the fork wasn’t dialed up ideally, “wow”. Looks like you found the sweet spots of that bike even though the set up needs some work. You have talent sir!
Thanks for the kind words!
Great event !! Was fun to be part of it!!
Thanks for coming out!
