Abbey the Food Scientist

Abbey the Food Scientist

Hey all! My name is Abbey and I'm a food scientist by PhD, a science writer, and a KZreadr.

I like to think about food molecule by molecule instead of what we can see with the naked eye. I started using this approach during my PhD work where I spent six years studying the microstructure of ice cream. I'm fascinated by food science and enjoy writing and sharing what I've learned over the past 10 years in the field.

My KZread channel shares fun tidbits about food, looks at the science behind some of your most beloved dishes, and dives into what a food scientist does. You can also find me on other platforms like Medium, The Science Says and Bookshlf.

Come at me with any food and nutrition related questions, concerns, or comments!

    I'd just like to think that we don't drop food that often to begin with, and that the pathogens we may consume after picking up the food are probably still in such a small amount that normally we wouldn't get sick from it; if it does anything to our body at all, it's only strengthening our immune system. I am aware that it doesn't apply to more serious diseases, but our immune system is stronger than what the majority of bacteria and viruses could do, and most pathogens are probably also killed off by our saliva alone. Maybe the 5 second rule just discourages people from eating food they didn't see being dropped?

    Hello ma'am! my comment may a bit long. Most students use simple sentences instead of complex words to get good results on ChatGBT ( they will not use the tricky keyword as you mention in the video), which can be helpful in home exams. However, This can lead to unfair results, where less hardworking students can outscored than genuinely hardworking students, which can be discouraging, and most of the students are taking ideas from chatGPT, which might seems better then those who may rely entirely on their own brains and hrad work, (I mean Chat GPT really works, and can get a degree for those who use the phrase accordingly).

    Im just curious is there any one who thinks this could be ai generated.i dont.but just by coincidence ive seen this video before.it really just looks weird.especially the reflections on the bottle.and look closely at the bottles shes holding up they’re see through!you can clearly see the mirror behind her through the bottles.but you cant see her hand through the bottle.i double checked.and shes just chilln in the kitchen with her camera sitting on the table in front of her recording herself.but in other shots i stopped the video.and zoomed in and they’re perfectly normal bottles..i dont like this subject because people are ill.im not ill i wouldnt eat somthing that might be.. i dont even know what to call it.what would you call a food that was actually secretly made of wood?I’ve heard of famine food.Just they say ai can do things that look real.i dont know why they would make the video.but why not.anyone?but truthfully i really do think she made this video.i just don’t understand the anomalies.they look exactly like the videos talking about the “new” ai and ai’s capabilities.

It just won't behave like shredded cheese or keep for months after opened like shredded cheese. With the convenience that most consumers expect (and the long shelf life) various other ingredients must be added.

    Hey and I want you guys to all know that one thing you want to watch for is BHT I watched another documentary and they talked about BHT and cereals and how most of them are marketed the Branson cereals marketed towards lower income level but also, it was on all of the Hispanic brand boxes like the Hispanic frosted flakes and I don’t know what else that’s the example. I remember very well but is actually on the American label as well. It’s on the Coco and pebbles. It’s a lot of the General Mills cereals, lucky charms I mean all of them and if it doesn’t say BHT it says this Item contains bio engineered food and I don’t know if that means that I’m listening to this video it but BHT is a hormone disruptor and can affect your lands your hormone levels just like the cosmetics there are certain companies and brands large brands, large companies the ones where if you trace them back, I forget the guys name who goes into target and he is looking who owns what he’s trying to find a small like Family owned shampoo and conditioner or just trying to pick out those companies. There was like one or two shampoos and all of everything else when you checked the label and you checked to the manufacturer was you check who owned it and when you trickled it all the way up to the top that would be the wrong way to say that because trickling down, but when you follow it all the way to the top, they were products and brands all owned by the big corporations finance they own all of those different brands and he said and then you have the shampoos that have had actual loss against them claims stating they made peoples hair fall out and then you go look on the next style over and all of these same big threes big three finance years are financing companies that are there to help you with Hair regrowth so it’s the same thing as with the pharmaceutical industries the same thing with the western medicine I heard a doctor on the Jake Paul podcast. He was talking about how polyester which is found in tampons that are not organic polyester. That’s in your sheets, polyester in your underwear and your clothes that you put on your body, but the study was done on dogs and they put polyester undergarments on them and they watch their sperm count sperm mob sperm you know, everything that happens so they watch the levels go down when they had them in the polyester underwear they watch the sperm become less active and kind of off and then they took them off. They continue to study and watch and everything went back to normal eventually, but if you’re like me, you didn’t know you’ve been using polyester in your clothing, your whole cotton poly sheets because they feel cooler you should stick with 100% cotton or wool. He says for underwear for males especially because these were male dogs that were not neutered. Ladies, you need to stop buying big brand name tampons maybe even those pads too. I never want to spend the money for the organic stuff, but after reading the ingredients on the tampon label and becoming aware of these things being hormone disruptors, we should not all be crashing, we should not all be Low hormones like at the early age of 30 this is not right did you know that testosterone is what our estrogen and progesterone both are created out of their made from our testosterone and when we are in our teens and 20s and early 30s, we have twice the testosterone as we do estrogen and progesterone so you should absolutely look into HRT More and more doctors are getting hip to this and a lot of times. It’s hard to find someone that will take your insurance, but it is possible so don’t give up but you want your testosterone level to be higher than your estrogen higher than your progesterone and I don’t even think western medicine doctor know this. I really don’t. There’s a book coming out next month or in September that is titled you are not broken by a doctor or I don’t know exactly what her title is, but she is one of the main women who started all of that who did the studies who paid attention she’s the one that said that testosterone women is higher than all other hormones and that’s what creates our other Reproductive hormones that testosterone do not give up if you’re an that normal testosterone levels and women is anywhere from 2 to 40 that is not normal. That’s not even optimal. You need to find out as soon as you can in your 20s. You need to get your hormone that your hormone levels tested get your test tested so you know what your baseline was when you were young so when you get older and it starts to go down and they think that it’s high, it might not be high for you you I think want to be between 60 and 80 that is optimal, you don’t want to be 100. She said it might’ve been another different female provider who is also, but she mostly deals with HRT for women who have our perimenopausal or menopausal the first doctor that I spoke about, is talking about women who have not yet reached perimenopause, but who are struggling with their quality of life, which was me and Mary Claire she said that if her these are women now that have already been through menopause, you need to start your HRT or your TRT whatever it is before 10 years of menopause you do not want to be making hormones and then start hormones because that is a surefire way to get cancer she also said if your testosterone is at a level of 200 or greater she would start testing for tumors, you don’t need to be that high and you know if you start like like crazy amount of muscle mass and it’s not your norm because you don’t wanna look super masculine that’s not the goal. Yeah you want your muscle tone to stick around you want your energy level to be amazing and you want your normal quality of life, but you don’t need to look like you’re taking steroids like when you live a little bit of weight you just are popping with muscle like that’s not the goal right if it is OK by all means go for it, but just be safe and get tested and get checked for cancer really high level can lead to cancer in women if it’s not dealt with and brought back down to you know what I say optimal level cereals and as matter fact, I want to start a petition I don’t know how I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m gonna write a letter to my state Attorney General to my statecongressman and ask them why they are not fighting to get these chemicals out of our food why are we the only country that you know allows the FDA and the creators of our foods to poison us and make us sick just so they can pres us medication’s because that’s what it’s all about just like the forever wars. It’s a forever at the doctor thing. It’s what it’s all about for these people because they want all the money. OK I’m done. Thank you.

    “Conscious food“ well… I don’t think that it’s the best. It reminds me of GMO, which has just made food less nutritious. I’ve heard so much from Science his friends who talk about “the great achievement“ of all of these things yet the improvement and the quality of life has not improved at all with all of this being in the forefront. When your genetic changes, I often wonder how genetically modified foods in any way shape or form and I this just feels like another layer of genetic layered food in the system. But I could be wrong… Thank you for sharing this interesting topic… Look forward to reading a little bit more on it before I would even attempt to try “crisper“ foods…. We shall see!😊

    I agree with the comment of poor knowledge and especially the propaganda, related to the narrative against artisanal farming in the natural environment. Besides above mentioned concerns and comments there is no mention by the presenter of the most useful components of the raw milk: natural immunoglobulins that protect against various diseases caused by viruses, fungi and other microbes. Not to mention the protection against autoimmune conditions and even some cancers. Those substances, as well as vitamins are not termostabile and are ruined with the pasteurization and other processes.

    Raw milk farmers are required to rigorously test their milk for a wide range of pathogens and follow safe handling and sterilization guidelines. Bear in mind too, most raw milk comes from non-industrialized farms where the animals arent forced to give milk multiple times per day or pumped full of antibiotics, which cause antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria to be rampant in those facilities- of course they require pasteurization in those living conditions. Instead of rebutting with pre world war 2 statistics where the understanding of, ability to test for, and vaccines against pathogens and diseases was primitive, look at the statistics on likelyhood of illness from raw milk (.001%). Compare that to over 2 million cases of foodborne illness from leafy greens alone. Let us have our raw milk, it tastes better, encourages a higher level of animal welfare and sustainable farming practices and invests money into our local farms. Industrial agriculture is the real problem here, perhaps we should focus more on what big food is doing to our supply chain vs a few hippies that want to live life on the edge and drink unpasteurized milk 😅

    Raw milk contains the same amount of lactose as pasteurised milk. Heating (pasteurisation) wouldn't do anything to alter a sugar like lactose. It's possible you're actually allergic to one of the proteins in milk

  • @storemanager9746
    @storemanager974620 күн бұрын

    No it didn't cure it. Raw milk has Lactase which helps break down lactose. When you pasteurize raw milk is kills all lactase bacteria which is needed to break down lactose. Also glutathione is also lost in pasteurization which is needed to detox the body of harmful toxins. Yes pasteurization ruins a lot of what raw milk has to offer. This lady is just listening to what these big milk companies are putting out. They are the one who pay for all the research that she is reading out.
