    I remember when The Last Temptation Of Christ was released in Australian cinemas and some crazy religious people protested against the movie. The ones who protested the most were from the Catholic Church. It was all on the media. I saw the film on VHS tape rental. I grew up as a Catholic and I didn't hate the movie because Martin Scorsese was the master director.

    Prisoner Blue Ray was day 1 pre-order for me!!💯💯 such an amazing show!!! The quality is top Notch amazing!!! 💯💯 and here I am at 35 watching this awesome show. Patrick McGhoohan would be beyond Happy and Grateful that his show is being seen by younger generations. They need Danger man the complete series on Blue Ray Now💯💯

    The one scene in the movie I think that is the main bone of contention in THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST is understandably - I think - upsetting and possibly blasphemous to hardcore Christians. From my understanding, Mohammed cannot even be portrayed on film. Can you imagine if they had a scene like that in a film about Mohammed? The idea of the movie is not one that I think generally offensive, but that scene - and seeing it onscreen...I can understand why it caused such an uproar.

    Im not sure if ill get an answer on this but here goes anyway! Ive been reading reviews of terifold sleeves wherever i can find them. The only negative so far is that some people are saying that the single dvd sleeves start to split along the seams after taking the disc out only a few times. Have you or anyone who has them experienced this?

For same price these should be 4k not standard def blu-ray. Umbrella at least will throw in a Poster and some slipcovers....imprint doesnt

    What I'm getting at is that slipcovers and posters are just window dressing. I'm more interested in the main event, and that Polanksi set looks absolutely incredible to me. Tons of new commentaries, interviews, features, and a full length documentary. Any 5-disc set from Severin, Vinegar Syndrome, or Shout Factory would cost about the same. It's $91 US as of this post, and $99 at Diabolik. Seems very fair. Whenever people complain about Imprint prices, I like to remind them that they're no more expensive than anyone else in the boutique scene.

    Heath do you have thoughts on alternate endings? I know multiple endings are shot for movies, but when the filmmaker chooses how to end his/her film does the inclusion of other endings undercut their ultimate vision? I find I avoid watching them. Curious what you and other people think.

  • @CerealAtMidnight
    @CerealAtMidnightКүн бұрын

    Honestly, I think sometimes they give us too much. Deleted scenes and alternate endings CAN be cool and I appreciate them for some of my favorite movies, but they can definitely undercut a movie. Frankly, sometimes I have a hard time keeping my memory straight of what's the official version and what's the alternate version. Waterworld, for instance, is just a mess in my brain because of all the alternate footage I've watched.

    I recall when LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST came out. It was booked in one art movie theater in Kansas City, KS, so it was not an easy find. My then-girlfriend and I went to see it, in part to see the promised wave of protestors, which turned out to be two or three older ladies handing out pamphlets. I love the movie ... it spoke to me in a way I still cannot get from the rabid evangelism of the Yankee Right Wing. I have the Criterion Blu, but will want to look at the extras to see if I want to purchase up, especially given the other movies in this particular set. BTW, I think the cover artwork was the poster art; it was definitely the art for the original Kazantzakis book, subsequent to the movie release. The other thing about this set, though ... when Mr Scorcese made his comments about Superhero movies, one of the common refrains on social media was, "Well, he just does gangster movies!!" Which grates my Extra Sharp Cheddar, given the scope of his work. Here, in this set, you have three moves that aren't gangster movies, and I could rattle off a list of several others ... ALICE DOESN"T LIVE HERE ANYMORE, KING OF COMEDY, HUGO, THE AGE OF INNOCENSE, THE AVIATOR... which the commenters could find out about with a simple IMDB search.

    My main complaint about Imprint is if it isn't THE MOST EXPENSIVE, it is one of the most expensive studios... Except... I would argue that they aren't at the same quality level as Second Sight, Vinegar Syndrome VSU's, Turbine, or Arrow boxsets. They have a new 4k boxset for Suspiria (remake) coming but at a total cost of almost $80 (including shipping)...Yeah, that's a bit steep for a single title. I can support at least two to four other other films for that. I love Imprint, but they need to figure out how to bring their prices down for us in the United States.

  • @nicholasthill7151

    That's heen my issue with many boutique brands. There are some exceptions. I guess I am more interested in seeing more people take an interest in hard media and collecting and at $30-100 a pop, it's not going to generate much. I honestly don't know how people afford it. I make good money and don't have tons of bills and I can't bring myself to spend $50 on a single film. Compared to previous years, I am buying less than half of what I did and most of it is from thrift stores. I can only assume many people are just throwing this stuff on credit cards.

  • @CerealAtMidnight

    The expense you’re referring to is largely because Imprint has to be imported to the USA. That’s the same expense everyone else pays when they import FROM a the USA. Importing is just really expensive for everyone, everywhere. DiabolikDVD has the best prices on Imprint in the USA, for what it’s worth. It’s always interesting to me when people complain about Imprint’s prices, though. I see many of the same people joyfully buying $250 Severin box sets of garbage movies. For some reason, the cult movie collectors have an easier time dropping cash on bottom shelf exploitation than on legitimately good movies that are highly regarded.

    Agree with Heath. Most of the expense is in the shipping/importation. In Australia, they're priced the same as most other blu-rays and 4ks in Aus - but you also have to factor-in the presentation. The slipcases, the quality of the packaging, the amount of special features, commentaries and interviews, the books/booklets all cost Imprint money to produce and include so you're getting a lot for your money. The extra expense sucks, absolutely, but it's what serious Australian and other non-US collectors have to put up with, as we have to import far more than Americans do.

I think there are good movies for grown ups the one that comes to mind immediately is Roman J Israel Esq. Denzel is great in it, the writing is great it’s not a perfect film but it’s made for grown ups that a lot of people didn’t go see.
