pretty ez job of its not all rusted like in my area of the USA...hour to a hour and a half job ..i used USED calipers so about $45 us dollars for both sides. Tools in the Uk look funny though they work the same, but their design is a bit strange over here
Wonderful collection of RR and Bentley cars.
Nice collection by collectors
Beautiful just beautiful. Where is this, exactly? What a wonderful place.
good to see a orion in beautiful condition so well done to fella for looking after and restoring it 😁
Thank you indeed! It’s been a long time and it’s nice to finally use it!
Congratulations 🥳 I've been constantly checking here and IAs KZread since seeing the update on Facebook. Interesting issue with the pump pipework, depending on availability and fitment I'm considering the rs turbo tank and pump setup to make repairs simpler
Thank you, yes an external pump would be much easier and give more scope for other options. I thought this was neater at the time! The car runs an in-tank AEM Motorsport pump, but the overall setup could be better.
impressive numbers! looks and sounds great!
Thank you! Certainly very happy with that!
🤔 The reason a Rolls_Royce should ever be white, if it is going to be used as a wedding car !....
😊 Nice looking BMW vehicle, the colour is very attractive also .......
👍😊 Truly beautiful classic old-school Rolls_Royce. Eat your heart out B.M.W !......
Très très chic 👌
The guy in the red shirt needs to start working as a voice actor ASAP
40.9 mpg is good??? For a car with such a complex power train, it's absolutely appalling!!
Cullinen! -What a piece of junk! Compliments of BMW! So sad! RR should never have sold to those people!🫣😕
Is anyone asking the service questions, does it have a cam belt, if so is it a wet belt? What’s the service life?
Who are these guys?
Thought it was a damn new Tesla from the front
Thankyou. I used to live in Hindhead in the 1960s and 1970s and drove that road almost every day, turning right at the traffic lights to get home. Funny watching it now in Canada. So long ago. So many memories. I spotted the entrance to the old coaching road. Pity the camera was too low to see the Punchbowl as we went round it.
Awesome progress! How come you're not using an Idle valve?
Good question, there is a valve in the inlet manifold, but it’s not got the wiring in my loom. I’m not sure if it needs a MAF to work, but I don’t have that either. In theory as soon as the base idle is ok, the fueling can be adjusted for each temperature set and we should be ok…
Great job getting it running - looking forward to the results of the mapping! how many ponies are you expecting? The 1.6i CVH felt fun and nippy with just the 108bhp but the 16v DOHC should be even better - I'm betting 140bhp at least?
Thanks Simon, theoretically this engine should be capable of 170bhp, though they rarely quite get there, it’s in Michael’s expert hands at Ignition Advantages, with a brief to make it drive ‘nicely’, rather than going in for peak power. He reckons it’ll be torquey low down, which should be nice. BHP? I’m hoping for somewhere around the 150 mark, twice what it was originally on its 1.4. The Onion’s kerb weight is something mad like 888kg and there’s little insulation from the outside world, so it always feels that bit quicker. Last time I drove over a weigh bridge with a tank of fuel and me in it, it was 964kg
I've binge watched the whole onion playlist over the last few days, and what a journey! It's given me loads of tips and has massively influenced what I'm to do with this ST170 I'm breaking and my Orion. I was thinking of building a zvh with the st170 engine to keep the oem look, but with me seeing how you've been able to use a focus inlet for the ST170 engine, I've gone ahead and ordered one! Good luck tracking the air leak down, and I'll look forward to the next update!
Wow, I’m really touched by that - thank you! Just a novice hammering away in the garage. Yes it fits together all ok, once you grind the profile of the top mounting points to match the angle of the head, it’s all good! If you need the rest of the setup, The inlet pipe is mk1 focus 1.8/2.0 (be aware the auto has an extra hole underneath) I used an exhaust reducer and fitted it to an ST180 Fiesta intake pipe fitted backwards and then a 1.8 Diesel mk4 Escort airbox. Thanks for watching, there’s more exciting stuff soon! Mike
You should have a Ford brochure made suggesting it was a test mule or something
Absolutely love this idea, got to get on that. Also absolutely love the user name 😂
Cheers 😂
That run must have doneon a Sunday morning. Rush hour that was the time..in the week..its good the tunnel was built. Cant help thinking the businesses on the main road afterwards suffered a bit
Great to see and hear Fred again after many years of not seeing! Viele Grüße aus München, lieber Fred, von deinem Freund Ulrich Lehmann. Ich hoffe, wir sehen uns uns irgendwann einmal wieder!
REBUILD BROOKLANDS
Never seen such a more enjoyable video than this one 4:49 4:49
Thank you! Brooklands is always a great place to visit, and was particularly special on that day.
Does this engine bolt straight up to the Orion gearbox ??
Yes it does, although the sandwich plate/dust shield that goes between them both doesn’t, you need to trim the Zetec/170 top section as the starter is the wrong side. The Escort mk6 GTI rear starter box would be a better fit and means the starter isn’t so closer to the alternator.

if the tyre is just partially deflated, with a slow leak such as this. Should you fully deflate the tyre first? Or will it be ok to inflate from where it stands? Is there a chance of overinflating the tyre? Nice presentation. Thanks.
Hi there, Instructions on various products might vary but, no, don't fully deflate the tyre (this might cause sidewall damage). You won't overinflate it with a can of emergency puncture repair, and, in fact, depending on the size of tyre, the damage, how deflated it is, etc, you might have to top the air up with a footpump or garage tyre inflator. Check the tyre pressure once the can is fully empty. If you are concerned that the tyre is overinflating, stop the can (you can always keep the remainder just in case the leak continues). If possible, check the tyre pressure. If ok, no need to add more, but do drive carefully on it, checking regularly. Holts, the manufacturers of Tyreweld, say a maximum of 50mph/80kph for up to 100 miles, though I would suggest that if you are only a mile from a tyre repairers, go slowly straight to it! The important detail is that you get the tyre changed/repaired by a tyre professional as soon as is practical after using the emergency repair can. These are not permanent repairs. Hope this helps.
Remember it well. But this car was driven much too slowly. The A3 should always be driven at speed, all the way.
Way too much talking without cars in the shot!!! Show the cars!
I've driven that road many times before and after the tunnel was opened. I really don't remember much about the old route. I didn't strike me as remarkable. Just a bend in the road and slow traffic. I've been to the conservation area recently. Some old tarmac road still remains. Not sure if this was the original A3 or a service lane alongside it. You can still see 'SLOW' painted on the surface. I went on a bank holiday weekend which was a big mistake. Far too many people, their screaming kids and dogs off the lead. The green welly brigade were out in force as well as the £3000 mountain bike riding, lycra-clad cyclists.
What a damned useless video! You have all those classic Rolls-Royces and all you can do is waste time talking about that BMW with an RR badge rubbish?
What an annoying prick😂
Memory Lane.
Fantastic! Only the new RR Cullinan have not the majesty of the traditionals Rolls-Royce, a limousine saloon Rolls Royce is high 165 cm, and this fact make unnecessary a Rolls-Royce SUV.
Looks very tidy - my first car was a mk2 Orion 1.6i Ghia at 17 years old - I'll always have fond memories of that car, very underrated! Keep up the good work!
Thank you indeed! Had a number of Escorts over the years but always ultimately prefer the Orion.
What a wonderful event. It would have been really something to experience the excitement, and to see the cars tearing around the circuit when it was in its heyday. Although a shadow of its former self, the remains of this great track would still be something to see. Jack
Thank you Jack. It was indeed quite a day. What remains of the track is really something to see. You only realise how steep it is, and the kind of speeds those early racers must have been doing to drive it, when you try to climb to the top (though it easier climbing than getting back down!).
MRG…… is that you?
New phone, who dis? 😊
Nice project, subbed 👍😊
Thank you! Appreciated!
You should have time lapsed the install. However, great content 👍
Definitely! It’s one of those where we just cracked on. Would love to show more physical work too, but it’s usually Mike on his own late at night.
👍
Tidy job there m8 looks good can’t wait to see it finished
thank you, me too!
The 'music' was dreadful and so unsuitable,
Coming together lovely
Thank you so much! It's really appreciated - nice car btw! Mike
I miss the naughties. A lot simpler times. Looking forward to seeing the Onion finished, it’s going to be spot on 👌🏻👌🏻
They definitely were! Thanks for your support and your confidence it's really appreciated, I really hope so! Mike
7'.16" - Was that Steve McQueen??!!
Old A3 ? Isnt that a Ford Galaxy ? 😁
Thanks for the memories of the old A3 through Hindhead. I used to use that road heading from Chelmsford where I was based down to Portsmouth twice a week for 10 years . I enjoyed the whole stretch from Guildford down as the scenery changed with the seasons. Best part was at the Queen Elizabeth country park and all the trees
So is this road totally gone now?
Road has been returned to nature...( maps.app.goo.gl/YrKLbyLMZqrskTnc9 - The Hindhead end)... and is now mostly a "Byway Open To All Traffic"... though I'm not sure how popular you'd be if you drove it...
@@ukmotortalk Thats a shame I have fond memories of riding my motorcycle across it a few times. Beautiful scenes. Thanks for the response.
@@ukmotortalk It serves as an access point for farms and houses down at High Combe gives a route through to Hindhead rather than going down the A3.
@@user-wm4me4bc6f Thanks for the info. Will have to go and take a walk down there sometime.
@@ukmotortalk wouldn’t bother if if were you places has gone to the dogs.
No BMW RR is a rolls royce particularly the culinary it's a horrid design it looks like a VAN
