This sold me!
UPDATE 4: I received a notification today that Newport shipped a new motor and refunded the shipping costs for the parts that didn't arrive on time. Expect warranty claims to last 1-2 months before resolved. UPDATE3: A month later, the company still refuses to respond. I filed a claim through BB and this is the response I received from BBB: "Regretfully we must inform you that our numerous correspondences made on your behalf to Newport Vessels have gone unanswered and we have closed your complaint as No Response.". If you buy anything from them, just know what you are signing up for. UPDATE 2: I filled a warranty claim and the company is not responding on any channel: live chat, email, or phone. First UPDATE: still one star, but I could go for 0. I went fishing for the first time. Freshwater. Motor started acting up after 2 hrs. It was full of water. The seal between the magnet housing and the brushes housing was faulty. Customer service couldn't find the part. That seal actually does not exist on the diagram! I found it randomly by googling it, because you can't find it by motor type on their website, as weird as it sounds. I ordered the part, paid $30 for 2 day shipping, it arrived in 3 days, I asked for the difference in shipping because it didn't arrive on time, and since then the company refuses to respond to me. Guys, trust me on this: don't do business with this company. You may be lucky, or you may regret it like me. Original review: Got this to replace a 40lb Minn Kota. I have another Newport 62lb that behaves well so far in saltwater. So I decided to get another one, 55lb, for use in fresh water. - Out of the box the reverse is making rattling noises like the wheel of fortune. Sounded like something loose, maybe a screw of the plate or a brush. Anyway, too risky to go out with it like this. Could have been armature rubbing on a wire and then you get smoke. - Sent a video to Customer Service, and the dialogue that followed was ridiculous. - First, they said it's normal. Nope. It's definitely not. After using, fixing, and servicing trolling motors for 20 years, I can say it's definitely not normal. - Then they said I shouldn't hear it when in water. Well, I'm not interested in hiding a problem, I'm more interested of not getting stranded 5 miles from the ramp. Not to mention the stealth part being gone for fishing. - Than he said he conferred with a colleague and the colleague said I shouldn't worry about it. Wow. That's definitely another level. What was offensive was how dismissive they were with this response. - Finally, they said they can't do anything unless I test it in water. My next fishing vacation is in about a month. And that's out of Amazon return window. - Anyway, I decided to open the motor and check. Indeed, one of the brushes was chewed unevenly. And that's on a motor that ran a total of 4 minutes in it's life. See pic. The problem is the manufacturing quality of the armature and lack of Quality Control. The posts of the armature are not sloped as they should and are unequal in height, and they hit the top of the brushes. - Definitely Minn Kota from now on. I never learn that saving $50 may result in a lot more trouble.
Great quick start guide! One of the things I love about this guide is the motor looks like it has been used. It's not a brand new specimen. :-)
What size is the nuts that go in terminal? Mine did not come with them and I can’t find one that fits!
Ran my nk180 pro for its maiden trip on my wilderness recon 120hd today. Absolutely AMAZING!!! It was windy and choppy on the lake, this motor cut right through the slop 😊😊😊. One question though, no strain relief on my motor at the top of the shaft like you have on the motor in the video. Did you do away with them? It seemed odd to me with the flex and bend in the wire at that point there wouldn’t be a strain relief.
Still no rock guard?
Unfortunately Newport does not manufacture a rock guard currently. We do recommend leaving the reverse lockout un-cleated if you're fishing in shallow or tannic water however.
Is the mount bolt pattern/footprint the same as the 180? And the 300?
yessir it is...and same as the Power Pole Micro. The bolt pattern is 3.75" x 4.75"
I agree with Ron but more precisely with the floor pain in the ass situation is getting those brace pieces in on the transam side was nearly impossible unless i disassembled the transam. You can't even get the brace under it because the transam is locking the board down so tight there is literally no room to get the brace lip under it. Its like fitting a 1 inch gap under a 2mm space.Everything else was fairly easy. I literally gave up after about 40 minutes of fighting with the transam brace side.
Just got my motor back on my PA after going through a warranty claim so excited I’m running a Li Time battery and I swear I can run around all day long
Adding a shaft fairing would make a significant difference in efficiency. Is this in the works? What is the actual propulsive efficiency of this motor? I am going to build a small catamaran and want to power with dual NK180s. What is the speed potential on a highly efficient hull, as opposed to a pudgy fishing kayak? I would be very interested to see this tested on a longer, lighter, more streamlined boat.
Anytime? As long as your batteries are charged. Gas is anytime
That's Halibut alley. The follow the outskirts of the base then head over to the bowl by the bridge.
How do you turn with that setup. I have the old town sportsman without the large rudder
It should steer just fine with the standard rudder, not you can always opt for the foot steering setup
MIP Allen wrench is where it's at.
So I’m torn on whether to get a stern mount motor like this or get a spot lock TM. How do people anchor in a spot without having spot lock? Sorry, new to kayak fishing.
The trend is to use a spot lock trolling motor on the front and an outboard style on the stern. Spot lock motors on the stern can be challenging to use!
"The way forward" would be to place a solenoid on the rev. lockout mechanism!
I just bought the 180pro i wish there was a battery box for the Newport battery
Would this work with a native titan x 12.5?
Yes it would!
What fishing poll is that at 5:43
It's a St. Croix Tidemaster
Hola es nuevo ?Guillermo cuantos nudos coge ,hay mucha diferencia con 180 s ?
what foil or rudder is that on the motor shaft?
Works on 12V battery?
Yes!
Thanks ! I ordered it .
whats the amp draw on each speed?
Best move is to contact [email protected] for technical info like that!
Hello Newport I would love to try out and make a review video about my experience, I have bought a 35lb thrust kayak trolling motor from Newport. I have nothing but good experiences from the trolling motor! As said above I would like to get a Newport 12V50Ah Deep Cycle Heavy-Duty Marine Battery and make a review about it, to spread the greatness of Newport!
Thank you for this awesome feedback! The best place to start is by apply for our ambassador program: newportvessels.com/pages/become-a-newport-ambassador
DO YOU ALL USE THE SAME DIMENSIONS FOR THE SHAFT WHERE THE PROPELLER GOES. LOOKING FOR A PROP NUT BUT EVERYTHING MADE FORTHE OTHER GUYS
contact [email protected] and they'll get you a spec if you're still looking for it!
@@Newport_Vessels yeah they simply told me the shaft is.45 with a 1/8 thread size. will take the nut to a hardware store and try to match up maybe. thanks

I sent you guys an email for collaboration through my KZread channel youtube.com/@FishingFloridaWithKO. I love to use the NK300 on my Old Town Sportsman autopilot 120 fishing kayak and produce some great content 🤙Let me know👍
Can you tell me do you need to take the Newport quick disconnect out every time to charge battery?
No - you can put the charger right to the terminals
what battery box is available for the 24v 50ah battery?
The freedom of Newport motor is the battery options. I would go with Amazon 50AH(24V) for about $250 with charger. I went with even smaller (2) 30AH. It last me over 6 hrs with peddle assist.
Our new 24V 50Ah Bluetooth Lithium Battery fits the Newport battery box: newportvessels.com/collections/motor-accessories/products/smart-battery-box The new batteries are IP65 rated, so technically don't require a battery box, but we understand the desire to keep the battery clean and dry.
Cant find that article on mount adapters! Would love to see it rigged on a Shearwater125!
Here's a link to the article: newportvessels.com/blogs/blog/nk180-installation-options
@@Newport_Vessels Thanks I just could not find it!
Just ordered mine for my Crescent Primo. Can’t wait to get on the water and be able to fish more!
I have the BOTE Rackham Aero Apex PD, and I was seriously thinking about getting the Bixpy K-1 PP-768 Pro Angler Motor Kit with adaptors. I think this NK180Pro is the better option by far. I'm so glad I saw this before making my purchase. I just have to wait until the damned thing is back in stock!
It's back in stock, and we agree, more performance for sure out of this unit!
what's the length of the motor?
24 inch shaft, perfectly sized for kayaks!
I bought my NK 180 2 weeks before the NK 180 Pro was released! I really like the upgrades on the Pro! Newport Vessels is on top of their game!
NOW...(?) you come out with it...! After buying the NK180 AND the NK300 in the last 8 months! Lol... I'm not going to say "Wish I'd WAITED", as I'm satisfied with how the "regular" NK180 performs, compared to some of the other brands. So much so, I went ahead and bought the NK300 for my new 'Yak, as it weighs about 60 pounds more than the old one (which weighs in "loaded with gear" a little over 200 pounds without me in it - another 210 pounds!). I will surely let my Friends know about the PRO model, as some of them have wanted to look into getting one like mine.
That's awesome! The NK180 original simply paved the path for the NK180PRO. The PRO was a natural evolution after receiving tons of feedback from the field. The NK180 is still a great motor, but when it's time for an upgrade, you won't be sorry you went PRO!
I have the nk180 owned it for 3 months I’ve been catching striped bass at San Luis reservoir and New Hogan Lake California. I was able to tow my uncle in his kayak weighing 250 lb reduced the top speed 3.3 mph @ 100% throttle , so for a small prop that’s Torque ! . I don’t fish off the ocean side waters I think the 180pro is excellent for that purpose because of that prop/motor boost. I’m just going to wait and ride off the 180k and get the nk180pro for 2025 Christmas 🫤
Love to hear it!
Works great foe a 115ilb girl
Sure does! Works great for a 7’ 300 lb man too!
Dang professional🙌🏼
Thank you!
Can the motor be detached from the mount for storage and truck bed transporting without having to unscrew it?
You pull the pin out but it’s pretty easy to line up the hole in the drum and the mount and stick the pin through. Plus, it’s more secure. I like the pin style vs the slot.
I had the original NK 180 and I like the changes you've made to the pro. They solved all the issues I had with the original.
Nothing like the support and feedback we get from our customers! Thank you!
Is that the passport 10.5 or 12?
2022 Outback
Ese Guillermo no queria no quería y boom cuando lo probo ya no lo solto😅
This is awesome, 🔥
I keep waiting for the modernization of a solenoid activated reverse lockout??? "the way forward IS electric"!
We like where your head is at!
i want one so bad!!
Does the new waterproof throttle work with the old NK180?
Thanks for asking! Unfortunately no. We updated some of the internal electronic components, so this new throttle is for the NK180PRO only.
@@Newport_Vessels will you still be selling and making the old throttle then?
@@cliffordhutt143 We will have them available for warranty replacements for now.
Lemme borrow one on release
Wish we could hand them out like candy!
@@Newport_Vessels no worries keep up the great work
This looks absolutely fantastic!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
awesome,
How steady is your kayak?
Very steady. I am comfortable standing, but it's not for everyone. If you're new to kayaks, you'll feel totally comfortable sitting in this.
