Welcome to The Pioneer Workshop.
My name is Denny Freitas. I am recently retired and have decided to try my hand as a craftsman. I have always wanted to build things using wood.
There are so many things you can build with wood. My first projects were two medium size boxes using pine with oak inlays.
Since I am brand new I will be sharing my learning experiences here on KZread. I will be making projects from start to finish, purchasing and reviewing tools, building shop organization projects, I even plan on building a new work shop!
I have just purchased or retirement home in Pioneer, CA. A small town in the Sierra Mountains where I am currently working from my garage. I have plans to build a dedicated workshop on our property, which I will also document on this KZread channel.
I am excited about sharing The Pioneer Work Shop projects with you.
Thanks for visiting, Denny

I make Adirondack chairs and like the flag as the backrest, how did you do the curves? thanks cool chair
I did the back slats on a Bandsaw, and I used a Dremel tool for the stars.
You never said the thickness of the plywood
I used 3/4" birch ply wood.
I thought you were gonna get him some food? Lol
LOVE YOURE WORK AND ROCKING CHAIR.
Thank You
Nice set up!
Thanks!
What size blade and brand are you using on your bandsaw?
Olson Saw FB10493DB 3/16 by 0.025 by 93-1/2-Inch HEFB Band 4 TPI Skip Saw Blade
@@thepioneerworkshop1218Thank you for responding
What did you use to get the stars on the chair?
Hi, I used my dremel tool. Along with a star template. I. Bought both on Amazon.
Hey Sir do you sell these barrels?
Hi, no I just made these for my grandkids.
@@thepioneerworkshop1218 ok thanks for the reply Sir
I’m currently building my first Adirondack chair from king’s design as well. Your video was soo helpful with so many tips especially for me who am new to woodworking. Great video, thank you for posting!
Poor guy has a deformed antler
What blade do you on your jigsaw - i.e. brand & model. I have been having trouble with the blades bending left or right. I feel I need a thicker blade. My jigsaw is a Dewalt DW331K.
Good craftsman, poor design
You're not kidding... these are time-consuming. I'm 5 days in on just milling from 8/4 live edge slabs to the proper thickness. And I haven't even started cutting out shapes yet! I'm going to template route instead of sanding to the line. This is for two rockers.
hi,I am at the stage of assembly. For one,is it necessary to use a nail gun for assembly? Is that a brad nail gun,or a pin gun.I dont have one that is why i ask.all new to me,i just dont like the little holes it leaves at the end of project, although it can be filled.any info on the type of nail gun would be appreciated...great video, you make it look so easy. thanks
Hi, I use a pin gun. I think it’s necessary. Unless you have a helper to hold the wood in position. Which I don’t so I use the pin nails to hold in place prior to drilling. Thanks Denny
Nice video.. Where did you buy the redwood?
I’d like to know, also.
Hello where's the part 3 of the rocking chair ?
Coming soon. Thanks
😈 'Promo sm'
Throw some silicone water wick packs in there
Good idea

what happened to the angled cut for the cradle that attaches to the arm ?
I forgot to turn on my camera.
By placing the back slats closer, you could gain rhat 6th slat. No gap needed between them
Thanks for posting this video. I am currently working on four of these chairs (2 chairs) +(2 rockers). I thought I was going insane with all the sanding. Glad to see I am not the only one. I have also been looking at the sander you invested in, so I will probably look to add it to my arsenal of tools. I was also wondering about David Miller's suggestion to use flush trim bits. Thanks again!
Hi, Yes I spend a lot of time sanding. But it makes for a nice chair. Good luck with your project. The Drum sander was worth every cent! I highly recommend! Thanks Denny
How many 2x12s did it take to build 1 chair
I used 2-2x12” x8’ 1 - 2x8” x8’ 1 - 2x6” x 8’ and 1 - 2x4” x 8’
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Great video suggestion if you get a flush trim bit with a router on all those pieces you will cut back tremendously on all that sanding..
David, curious if you have used template routing or flush trim routing on these King chairs?
@@TurningStitches yes several times..
Hi i was just thinking ,you already have paper templates made just spray glue those onto some plywood use a router to Finnish them off and whala theres your proper templates for future jobs. Happy cutting .
Great Idea!
I just joined your channel as a newbie myself its great to get encouragement from someone ,so dont knock yourself in time we all get better and better and the more you do one item the quicker it becomes. Nice job .Billy from Scotland 🏴 UK .
Thank you!
very nice
Hi. Nice job on them. Boards // what. U. Used. First. Hardware for. Bags. ???
Do both boards play the same? Is the gloss faster than the satin?
I’m not sure what brand of poly he is using but I made a few sets with behr satin(x4 coats) and they are way slicker than gloss. Satin does look better but they are really hard to play on.
What stain color did you use for the hole section? Looks like natural in the middle, maybe hickory on the edges sides and bottom! They look great!
Hi, I used Dark Walnut and natural stains. The hole section is painted black same as the stripes. Thanks Denny
For even better quality, take the corners and hole down with a 1/4" round over bit. It will look really good, and will save the bags from ripping.
Thanks I will on the next set I build.
Also, I do like the looks of the satin as well
And I like to inset the frame an inch all of the way around
@@stevewetrich2818 So are you using a dado and dropping plywood down 3/4"?
@@thepioneerworkshop1218 no... with the one inch off set and 1x3 frames it keeps the tops within ACL league standards
Nice job!
Thanks!
