Such a hilarious movie when John Dunbar narrating says these Sioux Indians were not the Boogeyman they have been made out to be they are not beggars or thieves.... Meanwhile, they literally tried to steal his horse on three separate occasions!

Johnny was a man who struggled in his personal life, but his relationship with his audience was magical. He was quick witted, cool, curious, and honest to the extent he felt he needed to be. We won't see his like again because TV just doesn't breed those types of personalities anymore. Rest well, Mr. C. I miss you so bad.

What makes this worse is how Dave went out from his show. I loved Dave back in the 80’s and 90’s, but the man went a bit crazy in that last decade. He became a bitter, mean-spirited individual and his show went out with a whimper. I hated him in his final years. He became a toxic a-hole and got too political and opinionated. And then he devolved into a freaky hermit. Johnny Carson retired like a champ. Dave fizzled out.

This is from 1994. Just 2 years after his last show. When Johnny retired. He retired. He only appeared in the public eye I believe only less than 4 times from 1992 until his death in 2005. Making this video one of them.

This last TV appearance was on May 13, 1994. Johnny would later cite acute laryngitis as the reason for not saying anything on the occasion. He passed away on January 23, 2005, at the age of 79.

Here's another perspective. An old WW 2 veteran, now deceased, was assigned to a supply transfer point in the South Pacific for over two years. They unloaded the large ships that brought in ALL the supplies needed by the combat forces ON DISTANT ISLANDS. They then prepped, packaged and loaded those supplies on smaller vessels for transport to the combat zones. There were a LOT of problems with almost everyone; drinking, fighting, slacking, discipline, etc. A number of suicides and even some murders. WAR UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS ARE BORING BEYOND BELIEF!

The audience were far too exuberant for too long. Had they stopped the applause when Johnny indicated it was enough, he would've stayed for much longer and we could've enjoyed a conversation on top of that as well.
