Mild mannered Johnson was good friends with Ty Cobb - supposedly the meanest man in baseball. Cobb was the only guy that Johnson had trouble getting out. When asked why this was Cobb said it was simple. Johnson was so fast that he always worried that he would hit a batter. So Cobb knew this and took advantage by always crowding the plate. Johnson was also know for letting players that were not doing well and at risk of getting let go get hits. An amazing pitcher and great person.
