it's the story line and all of the non gameplay BS that ruined the Marvel game. most people want to play the game and hope that it has good gameplay not sit thru cut scenes and dialogue 1/2 the game. I feel most of that is fluff but they put a lot of time into it because some gamers seem to focus on the lore and fluff detail put into games. Obviously with the Marvel game in particular they were trying to cater to the comic book fans with the relationships but it was just a waste. When it is overdone or when the gameplay is not most of the focus the games become boring having to sit thru generic storyline pauses in between the action/engagement. It just becomes too tiring at some point to sit or wade thru. I definitely do not want to see more of that in XCOM. I want more maps, enemies, weapons, base building, etc. that adds to the actual gameplay not the fluff.
@GridCommand9 сағат бұрын
I like a good story and world building, but the first 3 hours or so of midnight Suns was basically back to back cutscenes establishing the backstory. It opened up more after all of that, but it definitely was a lot to push through. They could've cut back on some of the narrative

The seemingly crazy RNG comes down to a few simple mechanics (that are not explained by the "tutorial" unfortunately). Hit chances increase with every other brother adjacent to the enemy by 5% each. And: Swords give +10% to hit. Spears give +20% to hit. Both are not very good against armor but the surefire way to reliably dispatch early game trashmobs. Suddenly RNG becomes very easy to manage an the journy to create your band of uber brothers begins

Being working 8~9 hours a day in software engineering and going straight to another activity that asks a lot of your brain is not easy. Hey, I really love XCOM-2 and the fact it's fucking difficult (at least for me) but is not a relaxing gaming that you can easily jump off after a long work day.

Yah no more Chimera Squad that wasnt my cup of tea. Read it was a game I purchased purley based on the ip, but later regretted it. Not bad perhaps, but not my thing atleast. there is other games in the genre that is promesing or good. But Xcom was literally the first game I purchased with my own money for my pc back when the ip was held by the French brothers. So I've been invested in the ip for some time. I still fire up Xcom 2 and play that frequently, just a mission here and there for some quick and fun times. One of the few games I never uninstall..

i feel like xcom 3 would have to push the boundaries of the tacitcal turn based genre in the correct direction and currently that boundary is still in the fog. so until the genre starts being confined, even with modding, xcom 3 isn't ready to be made. story wise, 1 is invasion, 2 is occupation, following the trend 3 would be liberation. i could see the story line being along the lines of capturing an alien ship, and using it to liberating the various enemies species from the conquering overlords or something similar. and as you liberate worlds you can start recruiting and using tech from that species.

To all you first time players choosing TFTV, don't make the same mistake I made thinking that the hard difficulty (third option out of four) is good for an XCOM veteran or just someone who likes a solid challenge. Avoid the urge to pick that difficulty at all costs. There is so much in this game that is very unintuitive and the only way you learn to navigate this stuff is unfortunately through trial and error. Or, by referring to their wiki as you play. Otherwise you could be going down the wrong path for dozens of hours until you finally realize how royally you messed up... Don't do what I did. Be better.

Xoom doesn’t need hit chances, harder to hit targets should just take less damage instead of the soldier missing an enemy right in front of you.
That is probably one of the biggest glaring flaws in the system. Other games like Phoenix Point have the free aim system which I think is a pretty good change
Honestly, It took me a long time to start XCOM 2 because this game is really demanding on the cognitive side. Being working 8~9 hours a day in software engineering and going straight to another activity that asks a lot of your brain is not easy. Hey, I really love XCOM-2 and the fact it's fucking difficult (at least for me) but is not a relaxing gaming that you can easily jump off after a long work day.
I can definitely understand that, its a big part of the reason I would hesitate starting new games in Civilization and X-Com or why I would not come back to them for weeks at a time.
I am a lot more attached to my squad members in XCOM 2 than the heroes in Midnight Sun despite them being just randomly generated characters with no special dialogue.
Same - in my opinion one thing about midnight Suns and marvel characters was you just kinda know in the back of your head that they can't really "die"
Zoomers don't have the attention span for an X-Com like game.
Ive gotten into the habit of titling my saves with a SUPER short sentence of what i was working on for future me. Absolute BEAST of a difference. "Build Fleet / Food Crisis" or "North-Invade_Econ-Pooping_Ghandi-Nuked"
😆 that's a good idea
I've given up on XCOM 3 in the same way I've given up on Half Life 3.
i feel like xcom 3 would have to push the boundaries of the tacitcal turn based genre in the correct direction and currently that boundary is still in the fog. so until the genre starts being confined, even with modding, xcom 3 isn't ready to be made. story wise, 1 is invasion, 2 is occupation, following the trend 3 would be liberation. i could see the story line being along the lines of capturing an alien ship, and using it to liberating the various enemies species from the conquering overlords or something similar. and as you liberate worlds you can start recruiting and using tech from that species.
Great response, I agree 100% and like the liberation idea
To all you first time players choosing TFTV, don't make the same mistake I made thinking that the hard difficulty (third option out of four) is good for an XCOM veteran or just someone who likes a solid challenge. Avoid the urge to pick that difficulty at all costs. There is so much in this game that is very unintuitive and the only way you learn to navigate this stuff is unfortunately through trial and error. Or, by referring to their wiki as you play. Otherwise you could be going down the wrong path for dozens of hours until you finally realize how royally you messed up... Don't do what I did. Be better.
+1 it is a very deep game even if you are familiar with the XCom style - there's a lot more systems in place
What about Phoenix point?
Ive came back to it recently with the Terror From The Void mod - i enjoy it a lot! It definitely feels like the closest X-Com 2 spiritual successor
YOU WANT X COM3 PLAY PHOENIX POINT.
Yes sir closest thing we got
