What I liked was how hilarious the whole series was but I thought it was a fitting end to pay tribute to our lost souls. Well done to all involved

Originally given the rather bland name of "Captain Cartwright," it was Stephen Fry who suggested giving Tim McInnerny's character the surname Darling, taking the name from an old classmate.

Recall at the time some being upset at the thought of a comedy about a war given some who served in it where still in the late 80s. I cannot imagine a world without the 4th series, friends and colleagues still quote these lines almost 35 years laters, such was the appreciation of the fine acting, writing and comic delivery of this series.
