    It’s an enamel paint specifically designed for marbling on water called “magic marble”. Do it in dry warm weather and have the water at around 27°c (78°f) as the paint skins off fast and you have to move quick.

    Magic marble neon colours. Regular tap water heated to 27c or 80f, no borax required. Move fast as it skins off very quickly. Also try and ensure a warm day do the air is as close to water temp as possible. Did one one a cold night once and it skinned off immediately. I suspect that was the reason.

    From my understanding, these are made using the same technique as Satch’s, so each one will have a varying unique imperfections due to the manufacturing process. It’s real chrome that’s been adhered to the body, and naturally, those two don’t bond. Over time, it’ll get some characteristics that you can’t avoid.

    These new chromeboys are coated with a spray system, almost certainly alsacorps "chrome fx". It is an amazing process, it is a conductive metallic coating that is sprayed on and can peel off like a foil. It is clear coated with a special sort of self healing coating. Thats the very slight orange peel texture you can see. It is far more durable than the original js10ths etc but not indestructible.

    Ok I know this is a 3 year old post but hopefully you are still responding to this. I just found tour video and is probably one the best out there. I have one question. So My son and I are attempting to hydro his guitar. Its a build it yourself guitar. So it’s primed and ready to go. I’m purchased easy marble using black, white, silver and black. So before I dipped the guitar I was gonna try it on some scrap wood. Well I dropped two colors in the water and made only four circles to practice so I was pretty quick. By the time I used a small piece of wire to make the swirls in had already created a film which caused the paint to stick to the wire. Will a cooler temp water make it dry fast. It was out of the tap and had sat for about three hours. Not sure the temp but cool to the touch. It’s over 70degrees F and the the garage temp is about 90 degrees.

  • @L1VE3V1L
    @L1VE3V1L2 жыл бұрын

    It’s a mongrel for drying fast so the only other advice I can think of is to try and make the water less “hard”. Scheme water is full of crap so maybe dilute it with some rainwater, half and half. I haven’t tried that yet but will on the next attempt. And also maybe have another person at the ready to drop paint via a pipette, and be colour in each hand, and the same for you and work out a plan to do it as fast as you can. You simply cannot waste a second once it comes out of the pipette.

  • @TXSteve320

    Hey James, I hope you see this comment. Thanks for these video uploads. I've watched a few. So the problem I'm having is the paint skinning too quickly. I'm using Magic Marble paints. Did you ever figure out "the trick" for this? You simply have to work fast? I saw your comment below where you describe running into problems when doing the Explorer body because the receptacle was much larger. I have a 100 gal Rubbermaid plastic bin I'm going to do it in, I've seen a few other videos where people did it in this thing. But I've been doing test runs on small pieces of wood in a smaller kitchen bowl and the paint is drying way too fast. I can't imagine how difficult it will be doing it in a giant tub. It will take longer to drop in all the paint and it'll start drying I guess. Thank you!

  • @L1VE3V1L
    @L1VE3V1L3 жыл бұрын

    Funnily enough, I have a new guitar I want to swirl any day now and I haven’t done any swirling till basically after I uploaded this video. It’s a super frustrating and soul destroying artform….. but when you pull off a great swirl it’s worth it. Now magic marble…… notoriously tricky to work with but nowhere near as troublesome as figuring out what enamel paints to use, amount of borax, how much to thin the paints down etc….. But with the convenience of Magic Marble the biggest downside is skinning off fast. Here’s my plan in the coming days. 1: make sure you have another person, or even two handy, with pippettes at the ready to do the paint drops. I’m gonna use the kids this time. Give them an order of colour drop in the drum and placement. 2: going to try indoors and utilise the aircon system to bring the air temperature to the same as the water temperature because sometimes I think the paint skins so fast hitting either the cold air or cold water. So I’ll be heating the water to 26c as well as the room I’m doing it in. If you have warmer weather happening then outside may be fine. 3: our tap water is extremely hard water. Another factor I reckon. Going to use demineralised water or rainwater, definitely no scheme water. Apart from these changes, the only recommendation is to MOVE FAST! (Even the videos on the tube show it skinning quickly, hopefully these additions I’m putting in to my wheelhouse here add precious seconds of time)

    Sounds like I need to do some practice runs before I dive right in 🤔. I've done this before a long time ago like once or twice and I could never be happy with the outcome. About the drying maybe it's the paint or the outside humidity. I know if it's really dry and hot paint will start to dry faster. If its cooler and the humidity level isn't too low paint will dry slower. I know this because I once painted an airplane interior, and when I opened the doors to let air in to get rid of the smell. I came back and the overhead bins looked like a scene from a scary movie where the walls are melting. I took a horrible delay that night. But learned that because it was hot a humid outside and inside the airplane the AC was running it caused a lot of condensation. Sorry for the long story. Just curious how things worked out for your paint. I'm using testers enamel paint and I plan on thinning it by half.
