  Virginia has always been a southern state. It may not be the deep south, but it's still the south. It's the upper south. Throughout history, Virginia fought for the confederacy and Richmond was the capital of the confederacy. It doesn't get any more southern than that.

  I live in woodbride now but I am from Alexandria. If you dont know anything about dc, md, arlington, or alexandria in this area, then woodbridge seems like a small town. Nothing to do. I lived here as a teen but couldnt wait to get back to alexandria. Woodbridge was too slow for me. As an adult i like it.

  If we're being technical, Virginia is below the mason-dixon line. When it comes to American history, Virginia fought for the Confederacy (C.S.A). It's the south -- regardless of what your family's hood geography dictates.

  I am from northern Va and it’s as southern as the rest, I would catch craw fish in a sprite bottle in the creek, run thru the woods barefoot, it may have a bunch of yanks there but the people like me who are born there, are some of the true southerners
