As a learner I look at others and aim to copy their best bits to improve my technique, but the joy and sstisfaction of progress has to come from within me

Awesome!! We can always pick things from other dancers and teachers, but as you said the happiness has to come from with in, harder to realize in some cases.

but believe me it isn't only the dancers who suffer from this. Even in the corporate world, good looking people get faster promotions and gain trust faster. Discrimination on basis of looks is real. Of course at the end of the day, one wins because one realizes that there is nothing like loving what you do, and that work is what will get you ahead, not the looks, not the cunning or anything else. So, I agree, do what you love, because you love it so and it is a life filled with happiness and joy. That's success.. Thank you for your honesty!

There is always someone who is better than you in one or another way. It is useless to be jealous...

This was very honest and kind. Of course, everyone who loves dance, should dance; but you can't eliminate the image that choreographers, producers, companies expect out of professionals. That doesn't eliminate all individuality or uniqueness; but it is another tool for Art. I think the audition process is just about the worst thing for bringing out fear, comparison, and envy; but hopefully your sense of confidence from hard work will get you through. I enjoy your opinions and expertise.

the goal is to bring that sense of confidence out of every ballet dancer out there, but I agree auditions can be real toxic and bring the worst out of us....something ballet world should change.

I have this problem for many years. Thank you for the useful tips. Will appreciate it if you can stand closer to the camera so we can see the differences between the two. Would love to see more of this kind of fix-the-basics videos. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this and speaking about this and sharing your experience. I means a lot to me. I don't dance professionally anymore, but even as a hobby dancer now, I feel this. There are many days I wonder why do I even still dance and do this ? As I'm getting older and more mature I try to bring this philosophy into my way of living and dancing. I'm very much looking forward to more of your videos.

I agree. There is no point in dumbing things down for children or beginners. Learn the vocabulary and the correct form from the beginning, even if you can't do it well yet. You have to know what you are aiming for.

great!!! I always say it to my students and it is the first time someone says it. Everything (and even for daily life) is weight changes, but you have to know which one is going to help me💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🙏🏽🙏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽and the “epaulement” are very important for each diferent jumps😊

Compound lift would be better in 45 degrees or shoulder press. They are more similar to the movement of lifting the ballerina.
