I need info on how to plumb canister filter to reactor. Don’t they also pump water? I’m brand new. No set up yet, just a tank and a can filter

I started with a CAN on my first tank setup. I made that decision after watching this and many other videos on running CAN's on reef tanks. Honestly this kind of setup is very niche, such as having that particular CAN with the heater integrated and doing all your piping in glass or acrylic. I ended up just being over whelmed with HOB equipment that would normally be down in the sump area. I am now planning on migrating my current tank to a larger one that actually uses a SUMP system. I honestly wish I had just went the SUMP route to begin with.

Love this tank and how you’re running it! I also have a 4 foot tank that I’m wanting to turn into a reef tank. I want to keep things as simple as possible; also wanting to use a canister filter, power head, and iwagumi-style approach.

I need help. I have that same lily pipe but it’s 3/4 from my old topfin canister filter I have the fx6 now, the hoses are a weird size in metric " 1 inch" but not quite 1 inch I can’t find a surface skimmer anywhere that fits the factory hoses so I don’t have to do anything redneck Tank is in living room “center piece”

Interesting, as I’m thinking about converting my 90 gal. Discus tank to a fish only tank with my FX-4. Now I don’t have a pre filter like yours so I have to figure out an easier way to do it, but beautiful set up!! BTW what lighting system do you use and the flow of that wave maker is pretty awesome!!

I’ve been at this since I was 7 years old. Grandfather gave me a 10 gallon tank for my birthday. So almost 50 years at this. For me it’s about filtration flow and dedication to cleaning. I invested in cleaning tools and a set schedule for my aquariums I currently have. 20, 75, 90, 180, and two 225 gallon tanks. I only speak for myself but I use canister filters for all my saltwater aquariums. I water change each aquarium every other week, on a rotating schedule since I have several lol and clean every filter once a month. My levels are always perfect. I also use a lot of live rock, a large team of cleaner shrimp and I oversized the canisters because the flow ratings are marketing hype. The ratings are based on zero pump height with no media basically setting the pump next to the aquarium and empty, how much water can the pump push. Setting a water pump under an aquarium (as almost all are except for custom setups) makes the pump work harder. Basic physics. All filtration media also make the pump work harder, further reducing flow of gallons per hour. With all that said, a properly sized canister, cleaned regularly, more than gets the job done. A lot of guys with KZread channels show you that they clean their canister filters once every 3-6 months or longer. You have a beautiful setup by the way.

The new auto top units have such small optical sensors. They do not interfere with the style of the tank. And they are safe enough.

Great video. Well explained 👏 I've been doing the same, adding very little 2ppm nitrate every few weeks. As nitrates sitting at 5ppm phosphates always trying to head down to zero from 0.02, I'm adding elos phosphate 4ppm every 3 days to keep this at 0.02ppm. Testing now with the smart tester by reeffactory as super accurate. My gonipora likes a little dirty water and struggle when lower levels.

Hi Mike, Marvelous video/s. I run an Oase 850 with the heater, and I love it. And I run a twist 9 watt UV. Where and how would I hook up the Tunze Algae Reactor? And those wonderful clear glass pipes going into the tank. Maybe you could do a video just showing how all that is hooked up and installed? It looks super! Thanks

I see you haven't posted since 2021, but I would love a short video or description on how you layer the media in the canister. Maybe give us a vidoe breakdown of the canister, your plumbing situation going into the Tunze and back out to the tank, and how you refill the water along with dosing methodology. Thanks!
