    My Kings Blue Thumper max would not pump 1 -265/65/18 tyre from 18-36 psi without thermalling out. Was out of warranty the first time I used it, rubbish, cheap rubbish. Took almost 3 hours to do 4 tyres to 30 psi only

    Hi, good comparison. Could pls tell me which type of battery you used ? Because i have a douubt that it will not work good with lifepo4 (it has higher voltage). I saw victron statement that voltage of panel should be +5v from battery voltage.

    Mine rattled so bad I could not stand it anymore so took it out of my Prado, the fridge slide continually came loose, in my opinion not worth the money ..... I wish I had of just got the drawer without the fridge slide and cutting board ....... it now sits in my shed and I am looking at something better ......cheers

    Cool, thanks! Going to spend the extra $30 on an xtm or RR single compressor. Closer to home and supercheap/bcf probably have a much easier return process.

    Nicely done, I've been having a problem understanding the 15, does it have to do with how much charging power goes into your battery? Will a 100ah battery, 100w panel charge faster with a 75/15 vs 75/10?

  • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
    @TasmanianOffroadAdventures3 ай бұрын

    The 10 and 15 refer to the maximum charge current of the unit. A 100 watt panel will output less than 10 amps of charge so they would both charge at the same rate. The 75/10 is good for a panel up to 145 watts and the 75/15 up to 220 watts.

    As much as I love ARB products, I know the one you are hinting at… TJM. I personally don’t like most TJM products compared to ARB, but hear over many reviews that their compressors are above ARB and are the very best money can buy. As for the Kings single and double compressors, they only have a 1 year warranty because they barely last one year due to the heat they pump out- they run so hot and fail all the time- right when you need them. For me, you can go cheap on many products but on an air compressor… reliability is everything. I’d rather save another paycheque and buy an ARB or TJM air compressor and know when I need it, it will deliver.

  • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
    @TasmanianOffroadAdventures8 ай бұрын

    Hey mate, I did this video quite a while ago and can’t remember exactly which one was I referring to. Could have been TJM, I think Sherpa were doing a lot of advertising around then. After the first monster comparison I did a lot of the suppliers wouldn’t supply compressors to test. One even sent me a contract to sign saying that I wouldn’t say anything negative about their compressor! I agree about not cheaping out on a compressor, I’ve had bad experiences with the Thumpers. I don’t think you can go wrong with the ARB.

  • @lionelwilliams6327
    @lionelwilliams63276 ай бұрын

    Agree about the thumpers. Absolute rubbish. I was looking at importing a Viair from the USA and then Bushranger started the maxair and i bought one of the first. Still going. Got a cheap thumper twin and thought the maxair could become my back-up. First time I used the thumper it did one tyre and shortly into the second it stopped for about 15 minutes. It was about 40 degrees. Maxair has never stopped regardless of how hot it is. Years later pulled the thumper apart and had a bad solder on one of the relays. Recently purchased two Mean Mother adventurer 4 compressors and very happy. I though the remote control was just a gimmick but it is great to use. One was for the daughter but she found it too heany and as we now have a caravan decided to keep both mean mothers with maxair as a spare. Decided to compare the thumper twin with the mean mother 0 to 40 psi. It lasted a minute or so and then cut out. turning it on a few times it would only run for a few seconds then noticed a bad noise fron inside the compressor and it then got binned. Absolute rubbish and false economy. Bought the daughter an airbag man and testing that was happy with its ability. Air bag man has a three year warranty and mean mother five. A one year warranty indicates to me that they know they will have a certain failure rate. Three years in the minimum I would recommend. Bushranger also has five years.

    Just thought I'd mention, Supercheap Auto and BCF are both owned by Super Retail Group. So, the XTM and Ridge Rider gear is most likely out of the same factory.

  • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
    @TasmanianOffroadAdventures10 ай бұрын

    Yep very good chance. The Ridge Ryder compressor in this test was supplied by the Super Retail Group. The rep for them insisted that there were two very different purchasing departments within and they were very competitive with each other and that’s why they would only supply the Ridge Ryder and not the XTM. Not sure I buy that though!

    We have gone through 2 big thumpers, both sounded like they would implode. They were hooked up to a small tank to operate a valve on a water truck, bypassed the 90 to 120 psi switch to a 60 to 90 version and was lucky to run for 1hr bfore shitting itself. Absolutely no load on it up to 70 psi, literally took 30 seconds to get the tank to pressure. Total junk.

    i have had my single black thumper for 6 years still going strong, i did buy a twin black thumper after and only lasted 2 years and it slowed down and burnt out and smoke come out of it. Single thumper still pumps up my 33's no problem even with dual hoses

  • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
    @TasmanianOffroadAdventures10 ай бұрын

    The general consensus seems to be that the single compressors are much more durable than the double. That's my experience too. You would have to be happy with 6 years and still going!

    I have the XTM drawer which I got as present over 12 months ago. The key snapped in the barrel recently and NO locksmith can get the barrel. Both BCF and Supercheap are both lacking in any support to even ask the distributor for any spares. So if your considering getting this product then consider an alternative brand as XTM has NO support for product failures.

    Thank you for your hard work. At 24:37 you say that each person has their own needs, and you are right. One of my needs is how LOUD the compressor is. IT IS EXCEEDINGLY UNFORTUNATE that during the tests, instead of letting us hear the SOUND of each compressor, under load...... we heard...... music. For me, therefore, the entire 26:50 video was completely unhelpful.

It was less than 3 months old and i just couldn't be bothered replacing it as there's a reliabilty issue plus they're a liability and i'm not driving 170km's to another servo with 15psi in all tyres (car and camper)

    To reduce the voltage drop, would it be worth considering mounting a compressor in the engine bay? I’ve got space for it on my 02 Ranger. I’ve got a dual cab still with the regular pickup body, I’m not sure if or when I’m going to build a flat bed for it. Are the downsides of being in the engine bay worth it? I think heat, water and mud will be the biggest problems. But I’d feel more comfortable running and fitting airlines to the rear rather than electrical cables

  • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
    @TasmanianOffroadAdventures Жыл бұрын

    Absolutely fit it in the engine bay if you can. Previous to the Ranger I had an ARB under bonnet in my Hilux. It was in there fir 8 years I think with no issues at all.

    @@TasmanianOffroadAdventures with mine being an older Ranger, I’ve got space inbetween the air box and the headlight. I will just have to make sure it’s relatively easy to remove because for some aspects of maintenance such as the thermostat, removing the air box and alternator really helps with access

    Thanks for this video, whenever I’ve asked the question or seen it asked in 4x4 groups here in the UK, people seem to only be interested in telling me what the compressors are like when pumping up a single road tyre. Realistically being in the UK, I’m never going to be too far away from a petrol station with a compressor unlike you guys in Australia, but it’s still nice to know that the compressor I’m buying will be reliable

    If I have to choose a brand I would go and buy 2x Juice Boss Twin and still pocket half the change of buying the ARB and twice the length of warranty period. The ARB already costs 4x upfront and they can break based on experience, and yes they are rebuildable but the replacement parts and components aren't cheap and can cost as much as another Juice Boss compressor, so in reality you're never gonna get your money's worth. So yes, get 2x Juice Boss and if one fails you can send it off for replacement while have the second one as backup immediately with no gap.
