Welcome to GlobalWalkabout, where adventure and exploration on two wheels are at the heart of everything I do. Follow my journey on a Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin as I explore the scenic routes of Australia and beyond. Join me for motovlogging, gear reviews, camping videos, and more.
But GlobalWalkabout is not just about motorcycles and gear - it's about experiencing new cultures, meeting new people, and discovering hidden gems. With a love for history and an eye for aesthetics, I seek out the most breathtaking natural wonders and ancient buildings at each destination.

Roo count: 327 I'm probably way off. Great new adventure mate. Glad to see you back on the bike and back taking us around Australia with your historic stops.
Good guess, but a long way off, haha. Big things are afoot for the channel.
Thanks for doing this video on Captain Thunderbolt. It always good when somebody takes an interest and puts information out there.I am a direct relative of his .
Thank you. I'm so glad you liked the video. Always good to know that I've done right with a video.
Sand dunes are amazing. Would have been awesome if you could have flown drone. Ah come on…run up there and back . Beautiful rainbow!
I think drone footage would've been awesome.. Just remembered that I forgot to link some videos of it all 😂
I never knew the difference between a seal and a sea lion... Do you know what the difference is? (don't cheat and google it) Drop a comment with your answer.....
Thunderbolt is buried in Bourke cemetery
Not according to that headstone in Uralla.. Or according to the museum in Uralla. But, I don't profess to be a Thunderbolt expert in any way. So it's entirely possible. It's like most of the bushrangers, so many possibilities and so many stories.
G'day mate. I got a Honda transalp 24 , do you reckon I can hook these up to the battery straight no probs with amps. Cheers mate. Great vid
I'd have a chat with an auto electrician to be safe mate, almost everything now runs through a CANBUS system and they don't like things not being the way they expect. My Africa Twin has an entirely separate wiring harness for all my accessories just so I can avoid that. (The problem would come with tapping in to the low beam/high beam switch over as getting that wrong could potentially fry the system, my auto electrician was petrified working on my bike, haha. But he worked it out in the end.)
Good stuff! We’ve been wanting to Kangaroo Island for a while. I have a sound system on my bike, yet never play it loud in a town or carpark. Oh, and you call those bikes barges… yet the Africa Twin is large and heavy. 😉✌️
Hahaha, I know, but that thing really was a barge 😂 But yeah the music thing was purely a "look at me" thing.. LOL.
Great to hear you got the goggles sorted
Yeah mate, about time, hopefully it'll help. Now I've just got to be able to concentrate for long enough to edit stuff.. 😂
thanks for doing this Simon... I am looking for descendants of his if you could help me ot...I am a direct descendant of his...I enjoy learning about my ancestry
Hi Cristie, thank you. Sadly, I'm not in a position to be able to help you with your search, but I think the museum in Uralla would be able to help, or point you in the right direction.. Best of luck!
@@GlobalWalkabout Thanks anyway I'll keep looking very exciting times for me...explains alot
Faster than the AT?
0-100 is (just) faster, normal acceleration is waaaaay faster, top speed is limited to 180 and the AT can do about 220.
@@GlobalWalkabout So that is what I like, for the moment I ride a 1200GS and it's the torque of that machine at low RPM what I like the most of the engine. If I have the change I'll give it a try. Not that I have intentions to swap because I love the Beemer. But who knows and top speed is something I don't care at all.
Too right, the torque and having no gears to change just makes it shoot off like a rocket, an absolute blast!!
As someone who bought an Experia a month ago, I reckon this is a good and detailed review. It mentions all the points that got me to buy one. Although you could have shown it DC rapid charging. What kind of bird did you hear in the trees?
I would've loved to have done that but I had it out for 3 hours and still didn't use even 30% of the battery, I also had no idea what I was doing for that 😂
Oh, not sure what bird, but it tweeted haha..
How u going now bloke?
Slowly mate, still working on things, good days and bad.. I'm going to try to get videos out again very soon too.. It's time to get that going again.
Great video, thanks, but what would the answer be to your final question ; ) ???
🤔 😉
bestbbike at this moment for longruns upride sitting
The real reason they limit this bike to an top speed of 180 kmh is to preserve the charging distance of the battery. That is my understanding, compared to the other Engergica bikes, that can go an lot faster but are not designed for longer distance touring.
Indeed, that was my understanding as well. On top of that, I believe it extends the life expectancy of the motor.
@@GlobalWalkabout Apparently the Energica Eva Ribelle is faster, but just really designed for weekend thrills like any other fast and powerful naked bike.
Man I like just about everything about the 2024 Africa twin except these stupid ass screens they have on all these new bikes It's ridiculous I just want an LCD screen.
Agreed, I'm now on my 4th screen, so three replacements.
Thanks for visiting us, and putting this out! Glad you got to rip an Energica around the hinterland!
Absolutely my pleasure and so much fun! The video is doing quite well too, so hopefully you'll get some more enquiries.
Interesting! What's it cost new Simon?
The base price is about $47.5k then you add on what you want.
Ok, I realised that I forgot to say that this bike has a 0-100 kph time of 3.5 seconds, it's literally 0.1 of a second faster at it than the Africa Twin.
After my first ride my main impression was how small it felt! Super fast and very well built.
Yeah it did feel really small at first, specially when I put my foot down and my leg was rather bent, on the Africa Twin my leg is almost straight.
Did you mentioned how much? And 0-100 times?
I did mention the approx price, it was at the end of the video, didn't you watch until the very end? 🤔
See what you mean about the sound, but man it's got some get up and boogey
Yeah, the sound isn't nice on camera, but it's perfectly OK while riding.. Yup, it seriously shifts!
Wow so cool 😛😛
It's definitely a cool place to visit!
Let me know, when you're around the Coffs Harbour region. It would be great to catch up. Take care out there.
Hey Ben, I'll be up there in about a week or so, I've got things to do in Grafton on the 13th before I start the long trek back to Central Oz. Drop me a message on my Instagram (link in the description) and we can see what we can do.. It's been a long time..
Take care buddy. Come and visit us in Victoria 😊
Stay strong, Simon. We'll be here until you're able to continue on. :) I haven't been active with youtube due to failing heslth over the last few months, and I've been stuck in hospital for over a month with a collapsed lung due to emphysema. Second surgery coming soon. Feeling better, and going to catch up on a few of your vids that I missed. Sending you best wishes, and hoping 2024 is a better year for you and everyone suffering with mental health issues. :)
Oh mate, I hope you get better soon! I was wondering where you were as I'd not seen your comments lately.
Very interesting place. So much wood.
It really was quite cool.. I wish I'd poked around in some of the shops and stuff, but didn't want to spend money 😂
There's some serious woodwork in that dock isn't there
Too right. They had to build it to withstand the floods, and various river heights etc.. Magnificent structure. It used to be much longer in times gone by.
should it not be pronounced A-choo-choo-ca?
I see what you did there 😂😂
What a very colourful bathroom you had there
Nice motel mate, looked like a great trip.
It was quite colourful, wasn't it? 😂
It was quite a comfy little spot for a few days while I explored locally, did some editing and just relaxed before heading west..
Awesome video ive just bought a 2016 Africa twin going to get these after seeing your video. As i ride victorian high country at night myself.
They are most definitely well a and truly worth it.. 👍 Enjoy the Africa Twin as well 😊
Nice to fix a sticky situation with sticks.
Then it became a much stickier situation 😂😂 I honestly couldn't be bothered moving the bike, so sticks worked well and held all night..
My condolences. Beautiful scenes of this magnificent country.
It is a beautiful country and despite this video being longer than I wanted I enjoyed the scenery so much I wanted to share it.. Plus after my telling my story in the previous video (recorded same day) I didn't feel like talking so much so just left a camera running as I travelled, so glad I did.
The little plants around the campsite are shamrocks. :)
Ahhh, thank you.. I thought it looked a bit like clover, it was very pretty.
@@GlobalWalkabout It looked like you camped in Ireland. I love that green, lush ground cover. :)
A beautiful dedication to a passing friend who will always remain in your heart and your mind. Damn, this country is beautiful. Thanks for sharing another vlog.
So true mate, it was exactly the sort of video he loved, so I figured it was perfect to be dedicated to him. So true, it's a beautiful big country.
You do look very snug in your hammock
Yeah mate, it holds you so nicely.. 😊
"promo sm"
Huh?
Condolences mate.
Sorry for your loss Simon 🙏🏻
Hey Simon, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's always hard to lose someone who has been a constant person for advice. Always here for you my friend
My condolences mate.
Sorry to hear mate, RIP Ian
Great video, thanks for the topic just getting ready to shop for tires on my exc 525 .I'm on my 4th back tire and 3d front,15000 thousand miles on bike 😢
I'm sure you'll find these tyres make a big difference, even if it's only the back one!
Interesting that your handling changed for cornering, as mine does the same thing with the original Motoz tractionator tread design.
I just found that I could corner rather aggressively.. Which was nice, of course part of that might've been my being more confident in the bike and my riding of it.. But they are grippy tyres for sure.
So I'm only two degrees of separation from the queen.
I guess that's 3 degrees from the King then 👑😉
Cool to now you were in such great company.
I've had a bit of a weird life, and that's not the only one of those things that I've done like that, haha.
huge sacrifice by your brother.
Agreed, 100%.
Ok folks, here is the part numbers I got hold of yesterday. The first part number is my new screen that's about to be fitted. 37900MLGE09 2023 version of tft screen These are my previous screen joist numbers. 379MLGE03 superceded from 37900MKSE05 Hope this helps. The top part number is the latest iteration and hopefully may be an all new part?!?
