My son loves this song! I first heard this song back when Charlotte Church sang it and thought it was perfectly sung, until I heard the German version, and then this. This version is life! She brings such life to this song!

Gary English -- Thank You so much, Gary. I am so happy you are pleased. It says above that you posted this lovely note 1 year ago, but I just received a notification that you had posted it yesterday! Which is most interesting timing, since I just shared it on Facebook in honor of Lucie's Birthday on Saturday! Or did you really write it just yesterday? Either way, I am deeply touched by your words. I have always loved your haunting melody and, after all these years, it still remains one of my most favorite songs. Hope all is well with you. Love, WW

Thanks for posting the video, thanks also for confirming in your information blurb her double hip replacement. I had vaguely remembered reading something about it. In 2013 this is pretty routine surgery but in the 60's when she had both hips replaced it was considerably messier and carried more risk of post op complications. That she took an active part in such a project was also unprecedented for any patients much less a young woman to do in that era. How sad that she is gone.

Such a wonderful way to honor your father. It only takes the simple things to make older people happy. So many older people are forgotten in our society. A song, a phone call, a hug; it all means so much. Thanks for posting. Your voice is like wine--always good. Just getting better.

I am in awe of this video. This is a beautiful performance that would be memorable just as a sound recording. But thanks to KZread, the transparency of your expression as you address each phrase, each note, each emotion, is beyond words. It is played often in our home by either me or my wife. But regardless of which of us launches it, the other stops and we sit together, transfixed. Thank you Mr. Willison.

Pat Suzuki OWNS (has sung the definitive rendition of) every song she's ever sung ... for starters, on her debut album The Many Sides of Pat Suzuki (1957). Each track an amber masterpiece. What a treat to see and hear her on KZread ! Operatic power (with pianissimo poignancies, as in Poor Butterfly), Stradivarious voice, brilliant clarity, vocal style, phrasing and emotings. A week ago I saw Miss Parker in "America's Funny Girl: Fanny Brice," a new, short musical penned by Mark York, of the Ziegfeld Society. York played the piano while Jeffrey Scott Dickens and Jeff Dickamore had important speakin' roles. The Hunter College (NY, NY) recital hall was packed and the small company, led by Parker was smart, fun and wonderful. They have reason to keep this show going. I hope they do. Google "ziegfeld society" for updates.

It's long been a favorite tune of mine and I used to audition with it when I was the appropriate age--young! But what a treat to see and hear it so tenderly and knowingly reinterpreted for a middle-age mindset, when the wisdom of experience gives the piece an even deeper poignancy and yearning. Bravo, Walter Willison! Nice to see Peter Filichia's intro as well. I'm also from Boston and his high school and mine always competed in drama festivals--his wonderful productions always won!
