I don't see or feel the aura of the sultanate... this is just customs. he is not a pure and sovereign sultan. there is no grandeur in this customary event... many claim to be descended from the sultan but are actually a person with no relation at all.

That nobat music is not only specifically for Kedah Sultanate but also used by other states in Malaysia. But for the Nobat musicians and instruments, there are only two groups. One in Kedah and one is kept in Terengganu. The one in Terengganu was from thd Sultanate of Johor Riau Pahang Lingga, kept in Riau Archipelago. But when the Dutch came and wanted to abolish the Sultanate, the instruments were brought to safety in Terengganu. During the coronation of Sultan Abdullah (Sultan of Pahang) as Yang DiPertuan Agong of Malaysia, the Nobat used was the one kept in Terengganu.

many Filipinos, particularly here in Luzon, don't know them nor even recognize them as the royal family of this country. i hope that the government should keep promoting them or even start to be taught in schools since VP Sarah is the the Education Secretary. Here in Luzon, I think this would be much appreciated and a surprise at the same time. Let's stop highlighting the Colonial and Post Colonial period in the study of history as we Filipino don't know our roots, we are just a colonial thinkers.

Great respect to the Sultanate of Sulu for keeping the legacy and tradition. Thanks for sharing. I'm too emotional teary eyed just imagining how many of our Royal Ancestors were stripped off of their royalty roles by these colonizers from a never heard land o in Europe.

based on the history of the the sulu and north borneo, Alam-Kiram Ancestral lineage ang trace ng royal family bakit marami nang revision? i have read that it started in the 12th century when shariff abubakr married the sulu native princess then he was enthroned as the first Sultan of Sulu. Years after, the crown was tunrned over to Sultan Ismael Alam Kiram eh ngayon, bakit marami nang mga sultans na hindi aligned sa mga Kiram?

traditions of passing down the crown of the royal house of sulu should follow the pattern from patrilineal, kirams came from the sister of former sultans.

Normally the eldest son would be the crown prince and would become the sultan when his father died. The conflict began the sultan died without any son.
