TableSyrupTV

Live Sound and Studio Production Videos. Tips, Tricks, and Walk-Throughs of Equipment, Software, and On-Gig Setups.

With a couple minor exceptions (MRSG Tutorials, and LV1 Promo Video), we keep it real, unscripted, and organic.... so if it seems chill and wingin' it, it's cause we are.... We aren't "KZreadrs" or a pro video production company. We're full time audio engineers.... just hangin out doing the thing, letting other cats see it if they want to.

Temporary Notes:

That said, we are working to improve video and audio quality moving forward and we'll also try to shoot on a gimbal as much as we can. Some old content will eventually be removed.

Thanks!

Hey! I've been loving your videos. Got a couple questions for you. I'm brainstorming how I can deploy an LV1 setup with a Midas M32 and DL32 stage box. My dream would be being able to use the M32 to control faders for LV1. Is this possible, using the M32 as a midi controller? Or should I patch LV1 to return each channel independently to the M32 to sum? Also, with the waves card, would I be ok for latency? We run 8 channels of in ear monitors off the M32. Have you done latency measurments? I wasn't super happy running superrack over USB. Would the waves card and a Waves Proton Duo be better? Also, how do I route bus or mix outputs of LV1 back to the analog IO of the M32? Whether or not I sum on LV1 or back on the M32, I still want to mix and sum the livestream stereo mix on LV1 itself so I can load it up with mastering plugins. Would I use the AUX channels on the Midas to accomplish this? I haven't seen you cover output routing on any of your videos, but I haven't watched all of them. My biggest concern is latency for the in ear monitors, and if I sum on the Midas (with LV1 on the front end), I know I'll be introducing a bit. I don't want to replace the control surface at this point, but just add a touch monitor (and mouse + keyboard) to the setup. I like that on the MIdas and X32, I can program hotkeys to change routing in case of a server or LV1 issue. I'm curious on your thoughts, since you've been running these setups for a long time.

@@samueldelice9015 hey! We're just in the process of doing the upgrade now. On an X32 or M32, running super rack performer would be difficult for latency for monitors. We're opting for a Waves Sounndgrid Server-C. It'll be less than 1 ms roundtrip latency, so it can be run 'before' the channel inputs. We're actually thinking of doing LV1 instead of SuperRack, so that we can mix all of our in ears on it, freeing up all of our buses for FOH processing. The LV1 apps seem to be better than the X32 apps for monitor control anyway. Then direct outs from LV1 back to FOH for mixing the processes signals to the mains.

@@sethwengermusic Thanks for your reply. We use the Soundgrid Server also with superack and it works great for live évents no latency pbs but with this setup we are limited with number of bus of the m32…. So my dream is to do every thing inside thé LV1 but sendîg all outputs on the M32 console (FOH main, front fil, streaming, sub and musicians ears monitors…) and we dont wan’t ton add Others contrôler devixe we want to control the LV1 with the console via MIDI protocole !

X32's are EVERYWHERE. So are the M32's (Better pre's, and maybe converters too). It's one of those things where, the X32 sounds like crap.... really does.... I own a couple, and they really are trash, but they get the job done. Easy to use. Fast. They just sound like 1000 squirrels in a garbage can, compared to other stuff - even the M32 is a dramatic improvement. Compared to something like a QL5 or whatever, they aren't even in the same realm..... but... again... I own em.... use em.... I generally just use em on lower budget shows and also with my LV1 rig, taking inputs from my soundgrid I/O's, so they're just doing control and eq and stuff..... one thing..... careful with the Graphic EQ's. Listen to something, then insert a graphic EQ. Flat. It instantly changes things. Throws a blanket over your audio.... and you get really bad phasing as soon as you use a filter. is what it is. But I'd still take an X32 over a GL2400, or a LS9 even. But if you could swing the M32 do that instead. Or better yet, a Wing and some midas stage boxes - either the prosumer DL16 or DL32, or even the pro series 153/251 etc stuff, cause they work with em too (X/M/Wing)

@@TableSyrupTV I am an engineering technician by trade. I generally sweep equipment to look for phase. delay, roll-off, aliasing, harmonic distortion, and noise level. I prefer to quantify what I am recording. Yes the digital console will not do a flat 20HZ to 50KHZ that some analog equipment handles fine. A proper analog EQ when set to middle, does not affect the sound IF it has a proper balanced differential amplifier chain. EG uses a Twin T filter design. Many cheap EQ units use single ended design as it is much cheaper. Look in your EQ and see of there are matched pairs of capacitors for each channel in the EQ. Yes there is a lot of inexpensive stuff that sounds like it. Yes it is generally a good idea to not use a graphic EQ, except to fix a much worse prolem with the room and it's resonances. Many X32 boards are not run correctly and thus sound really bad. They are very unforgiving when filters, FX, Compressors, etc are over driven. This is really bad in the digital realm and really easy to do when stacking plugins. Gee, that effect is cool.. Crank it up, now add this, and that.. Opps. Clipped into oblivion before returned on the FX return.

Sorry, I'm just getting into paying attention to our KZread Account. FOH was a Mac Mini running Windows 10 (It's now an Axis One). There is an Extreme Server removed from it's case, installed on a plate in the Enclosure we built for the 'console'. IOX for Local I/O. Only using two of the Icons, the X and M. The additional M could be set as a MIDI Controller for some functions. Screens are the Dell P2418HT's. There's a Netgear GS108 v4 in there too.

Better to Mix on LV1, let waves do the summing, then just route outputs only out of the X32. Also route Cue bus to X32 Aux Ins 7&8 and listen to cue bus on X32 phones out.

When we leave for the night, the DJ's take over for the dance party and go all night.... we remove LV1 from the routing, shut that part down, hand em an iPad, and they run it from the stage.

The client requested the X32. We basically just had LV1 running like SuperRack or MultiRack. There are ways to do some creative re-mapping and use input channels as returns, in order to get bus inserts working with the X32, but I don't do that. In general, we'll have LV1 at FOH and feed our SoundGrid I/O's patched device to device out to the X32 and use it for MON. We have other videos up now showing that setup, which we now use for this event. Anyway, the X32... When we leave for the night, the DJ's take over for the dance party and go all night.... we remove LV1 from the routing, shut that part down, hand em an iPad, and they run the X32 from the stage.
