  To be fair, Bryant tried for years to get black players at Alabama and so he specifically invited legendary coach John McKay and USC to show the fans down there how good Sam Bam Cunningham and the rest of those Trojans. It really was an effort by Bear. John McKay was also an all time great college coach winning four nattys in his time at SC.
