    @SSOP The 75 run at the beginning: first 4 breakshots are played with a good result, so it's easier to play the whole rack without mistake. The 5th breakshot opens the half rack and there's was a bigger cluster in the triangle. But that was to handle with a secondary and if needed a third breakshot. The ball you missed was the 8 but I cannot see in time lapse what the mistake was. Maybe you played it with a stun shot but I saw no reason to do in this situation. I hope you didn't try to open some balls from the cluster with a long stun. Only Mike Sigel I would allow to do this.

    Had the 8-ball gone in, you can see I played for an angle on the 2-ball to rebreak.

    I have been making cues for over 20 years now and have built a few long cues. I have found that the shaft length has an effect on the oveall hit of the cue. A pool cue also acts as means of stored energy. When you have a short shaft as per your example the hit will tend to be quite stiff. The longer shaft will recoil to a greater extent and will allow you to transfer more of the energy of the hit with less of a stroke. The farther you push the joint the more whip you can give to the shaft. The joint of a cue interupts how the cue flexs when the cue impacts the cueball. The best analogy I can give is a cue is like a good anvil for a blacksmith. A good anvil will give back the energy that you put into it, where as a poor one will absorb the energy, taking away the energy from the collision between the metal and anvil. You want your pool cue to impart as much of the energy you put into the hit from your stroke back into the cue ball. This allows you to have a much more controlled stroke that will move your cue ball around the table without having to muscle your stroke. Having said that, I have found the farther you push the joint back the better. You basicly built a cue with a large mid extension. In the snooker world they have traditionally used one piece cues. Then they started building 3/4 shaft cues. Where the butt is only 1/3 of the total length. This was all in the effort to reduce the effects of putting a joint in a cue. A lot of compromises were made for the sake of portability. The other consideration is cases. If you have an extra long cue made you have to have a custom case made. My suggestion for those who need an extra long cue is to go with a two piece where the total length is 62" and to go wrappless. You can grip the cue at the very end if you need to. Why does there have to be cue behind your grip hand? Snooker players traditionally hold the cue this way. The evolution of the pool cue has alot to do with efficiency of manufacturing and esthetics. Standards are useful in many ways. I have shaft blanks hanging in my shop that are 32 inches in length. But if you buy from big suppliers they are usually 30. The decorative hardwood we use is usually sold in 18" blanks, enough for a forearm and a butt sleave and a little waste at the ends and the cuts. When you start altering the basic dimensions of the cue that changes all the standards. Lots of things to consider. It also makes certain parts of the turning process more difficult. Sorry for the long rant...just one cumakers opinion. Cheers

    I hear you. But at 6'-5" tall, a 62" cue is just too short for me. I need 67" minimum.

    @SSOP 5.)The situation after breaking with the 3ball: Sorry, cannot say why the cb landed near the bottom rail because the breakshot is only to see in time lapse. Normal speed or slow motion would be better for studieing the shot.

    I like this one Bob, it's good to diagnose where you go wrong and why, especially when you are not in the moment trying to keep the run alive. I saw several places where a different choice a bit earlier in the rack would likely have been better, but that type of call is likely picking with hindsight.

  • @StefanWeber-xv2dn
    @StefanWeber-xv2dn4 күн бұрын

    @SSOP 4.)The situation you missed the sixball: Risiken zu minimieren ist ein Schlüssel zu erfolgreicherem 14.1Spiel! Die 6 von der Bande als Nachläufer mit etwas Linkseffet über 2 Banden Richtung Tischmite zu bringen ist halt technisch viel schwieriger als ein einfacher Nachläufer mit der 5 Kopf links. Möglichst einfache Bälle spielen senkt das Fehlerrisiko! Mit der 5 die Weiße Tischmitte platzieren und man hat mindestens 2 sehr gute Möglichkeiten einfach fortzusetzen. (die Halbe vor der Miitteltasche oder die 1 Fuß rechts)

  • @StefanWeber-xv2dn
    @StefanWeber-xv2dn4 күн бұрын

    @SSOP 3.)The end pattern situation: Grundsätzlich: Es ist schon vorteilhaft, 2 potentielle Breakbälle links und rechts auf Höhe des Racks liegen zu haben. Als Rechtshänder sollte man allerdings bestrebt sein, den Breakball links neben dem Dreieck wegen der besseren Erreichbarkeit beim Breakshot zu nutzen! Da aber kein Mensch 100%perfekt spielen kann, gehören "Versteller" beim 14.1 leider dazu. Deshalb erfordert dieses Spiel viel Kreativität und Flexibilität beim Stellungsspiel. Fehler minimieren aber, wenn sie passieren, lernen damit umzugehen! Von der 11 über 2 Banden durch diese Lücke zwischen der 10 und 2 zu spielen ist schon sehr ambitioniert und ging dann auch schief.

    @SSOP Many thanks for the quick answers Bob. Yes, I know, you had played 100+ many times. You can reach the 200 too but you cannot force it. Without the skills and knowledge you have in straight pool, the concentration over a longer time (60 - 90 minutes) will be crucial for success.

    While you and others may have developed your alignment around your rear foot, I believe there is too much emphasis given to the exact position of the rear foot. Much more is stability which comes from proper balance between the 2 feet and the bridge hand. You don’t mention body clearance for stroke followthrough in this particular video and that is extremely important. I never think about my feet position, but it’s true that my rear foot ends up along the same line.

    zu dem Breakball mit der 2 von der rechten Tischseite: Grundsätzlich: Als Rechtshänder muß man immer bestrebt sein, auf der anderen Tischseite zu breaken! Die Position der Weißen 30-40 cm zum Breakball. Dann ist gewährleistet, daß man bequem NEBEN DER LANGEN BANDE stehen kann und sich nicht langstrecken muß. Siehe auch: Phil Capelle, play your best straight pool. Vor meinen Augen dürfte ich ein perfektes Spiel mit einer 125er Serie von Nick van den Berg bewundern, der dies alles in sein 14.1Spiel umgesetzt hat!

    Ich habe mich nun dafür entschieden, in Deutsch zu antworten, mein Englisch ist leider nicht gut genug, um mich zu 100% und richtig verständlich zu machen. SORRY! Grundsätzlich bin ich überhaupt kein Fan davon, mit der Weißen von unten über eine Bände zu einem Pulk ins Rack zu spielen. Die Gefahr ist viel zu groß, das die Weiße sich "festfrisst"! Ausnahmen:1.) Wenn dort in der Nähe von mindestens einem (besser vor beiden!) Ecktaschen eine Kugel liegt, um weiterspielen zu können (insurance ball) 2.)Falls es aber wie hier keine andere sinnvolle Möglichkeit gibt darf man auf gar keinen Fall wie hier mit der Weißen mittig zwischen die 13 und 14 treffen. Entweder die 13 seitlich oder die 14 seitlich treffen, danach wird man voraussichtlich weiterspielen können.

Not just run into the balls and hope for some luck, but plan to come into half of the 10 on the right side. it's the same level of thought you would give it if you were following straight into it, the only difference is that you're coming off a rail at it.

    Whenever it's possible I avoid to have an inside angle on my bb. I myself prefer a little bit thinner hit on the bb, half full hit or a little bit less. So it's not available to shoot the bb hard, so I have more control over the bb and in many cases the rack goes completely open. Another tip is: Practice bb, practice bb, practice bb.... you will see: It's a good way to increase your results in this difficult game 14.1 endless!

    I do tip left at backswing and then cut across to tip right, pulling my elbow in at contact, a reverse chicken wing. I am right handed but super left eye dominant. Using a mirror and video shot straight back to my face, i find that, in order to line up the way you say and have my left eye over the stick looking straight down the shot line, i need to have the big toe tip of my right/anchor foot just to the inside of the shot line and my left/forward foot big toe completely on the shot line, a straight or even a bit inward standing stance. This feels alien to the extreme and goes against everything i have been taught or seen anywhere. But, now my shoulder, elbow, stick and eye seem to be completely vertically aligned. I need to try this out on real shots.

  • @ShortstopOnPool

    I think I know what you mean. The feet position you describe helps you rotate your shoulders farther. But the balance is not as good because the tripod is so narrow. You could try stepping forward farther with your forward foot, rather than bringing it up to the shot line. Good luck!

    A variation of this drill is my go-to as you can learn so much from it, sinking the ball or not, by paying attention to the cue ball, for one. You have better concentration and stamina than I do, by the 3rd rack into the 4th, my shots go all ugly. Time to stop and do something else. I am "happy" to see some missed balls there, and drifted cue balls, as it makes my meager results seem a bit less meager. 😊

  • @ShortstopOnPool
    @ShortstopOnPool12 күн бұрын

    Yes. The results (number of pocketed shots) is not the only metric that should be tracked. As you pointed out, if the ball goes in but the cue ball drifts, thats an indication of a slight stroke delivery error that will turn into a miss later. Believe me - I feel the fatigue about the 4th rack. I like this drill as it can simulate the fatigue (physical and mental) that one can feel playing in a tournament or money match.
