    A few years ago I decided to try and get on CW. Learned it to get my license for Tech and General but they had eliminated it when I got my extra. Got me a straight key and joined SKCC because it said it was a good way to build your speed. I started practicing and when I got my speed up to about 7 words a minute I got on the air. Made a couple contacts with 2 members and in chat I was saying how good it was to be able to do that. Then some member chimed in that an Extra who was only able to copy at 6 to 7 WPM was a waste of time and bandwidth. So I apologized to him for wasting peoples time and using his precious bandwidth and put my key in a drawer and haven’t used CW since. I didn’t want to be associated with an organization that claims to help new CW operators but then puts them down because they are a waste of time and bandwidth.

    I don't see these advertised on eBay, and the link goes to a site with 9 pages of Russian sites, none of which seems to be the correct one. Do you know if they are still available, and if so where?

    Actually, I think it could be very useful to have an additional mode whereby it sends the letter (as it does now) then it gives you a few seconds to guess the answer (in your head) then it simply tells you what the letter was. Sorry for all the feedback; I'm just trying to help. :-)

  • @radscot
    @radscot2 жыл бұрын

    I seem to be having great problems getting the Echo to understand certain responses (not just s and f disambiguation, but things like u can be a problem; maybe it's having trouble disambiguating u and 2)? It's happening very frequently and when it does happen, the Echo can get stuck in a 'say that again' loop, so that really needs to be set to time-out after 2 failed understanding attempts (so then it just tells you the answer and moves on to sending you the next character). I've ended up having to say a random character (typically z) just to shut it up. Sometimes even that doesn't work and it eventually toggles into 'sending sentences' mode and I end up getting rather irritated and simply closing it. Limiting it to a couple of 'say that again' instances would - IMHO - vastly, vastly improve the user experience. I hope that the above feedback is of some use to you, Briain

  • @radscot
    @radscot2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Joe. I've just discovered this (I'm using it on an Echo), I think that it is a fabulous idea and I [very nearly] almost absolutely love it! I'd like to suggest one minor change, though (maybe even as a user settable as an option, if that's feasible). Using your video example, might it be a cool idea to shorten the response 'you said it was U, <big pause> it was U' to something a little more abrupt? Personally, I'd love the response to be something more along the lines of either 'correct' or 'no, it was A', as to me, the unnecessary verbal redundancy soon tends toward being a tad on the tedious side and I'd much prefer to instead more rapidly progress onto being completely confused by the next symbol (one rather appreciates response brevity when dealing with all these fancy new AI type thingies; okay, yes, I'm getting far too old and grumpy). ;-) All the best and thank you very much indeed for building this skill; it's a very cool idea and all your hard graft put into creating it is very much appreciated! :-)

    I think it is some switching power supply, the change in frequency within each peak looks like the signal generated by the pulse width modulated square wave. Please try to find the lowest possible frequency where it all starts. May be walk around with a portable short wave radio with a headphone and try to go near potential power sources? Another technique is to power your radio with battery and then switch off the mains in your house to rule out any sources within your qth. If that experiment makes it disappear, you have succeeded. The source is within your control. If not, it could be some neighbour and it becomes harder... Good luck. I am surrounded by so many RFI sources here. - ram VU3RDD

    QRP is one thing, what about your antenna ?

  • @jgalicic
    @jgalicic3 жыл бұрын

    The antenna is a simple inverted L over a special folded counterpoise created by K2AV. See k2av.com for details. I have been experimenting with this antenna for quite some time and find it works pretty well on my very small lot. Of course a lot of contacts were made because the other end had good receive antennas and could hear well. This year I will be operating the Stew Perry from my South Carolina QTH with 100 watts using an inverted L over 21 long ground radials. I feel fairly competitive with this configuration. We shall see !

Very heavy base at about 3 lbs or 1.3 Kgs. He has several models available check them out... you won't regret it! The keyer you're showing goes for $119.00 incl. shipping at Ebay. Yuri sells on Ebay too. I paid $176 for my keyer incl. shipping from the Ukraine. For the $57 difference it is certainly worth it.
