Great usefull video, thanks! I really enjoy the good and visible explanation! I am a dj and mostly have gigs inside. So my subs happen to crossover at 100Hz. Is it correct to assume that, when I am in a small+long room, 7.53 feet from center woofer to center woofer is a good distance to position the subs? 🙃👍

FYI I haven't done point source speakers for mains in OVER FIFTEEN YEARS! People that think 12.2's are the cat's meow don't have experience with column arrays, like Turbosound IP3000. You can move from 80 degrees in ALL directions to 120 degrees wide and only 15 degrees vertical with column line array speakers. Just a thought.

The Audince is the one with money. If they can't hear it then it is fraud. Line Arrays only project sound in a narrow angle. Wide ranging horns and tweeters offer up dispersion of sound. Line Arrays only offer sound to that narrow band of people right in front of them. It would be better for those arrays to be mounted HORIZONTALLY, so as to insure wide dispersment of sound. Any other argument, is fraud. Don't build your PA at the same plane of the stage. Mount them on a sonal point at the side of the stage, so that all the audience can hear the performance.

This was so helpful, I am just setting up dual subs and ive realised that the cardioid option is the , one I should adopt , as I'm in a brewery and there is a row of tanks behind the stage area, I have built the subs inside two large rum barrels and was going to put them both on the same cradle after watching this they need to be on separate cradles to really increase my options, thank you for explaining things so clearly

Hello Kindly help me understand why my M32 Midas main LR output has low sensitivity towards vocal signals even when the gain is cranked all way up. The channel shows it's clipping but not much is reaching the LR mains output. So because of this, the backup vocals usually sound too quiet in the live mix. Thank you.

Great videos Michael!, I’m a dj and I have future gig in a convention center and I can not compete with the main stage. I’m working space is 30’x30’ and my issue is I can not be louder than the main stage. I have smaller rig that I use for house party’s consists of 8” mains and 12” subs. Questions is is there a formula of putting 4 8” mains 90/60 coverage in 30’x30’ space in each corners to contain sound in this type of space? Will add two 12” or one15” sub there are no walls just open space with curtain piping to enclose the area.. also do smaller speaker have a smaller coverage?

What are the specific points to look at when defending the dm7 compact for example comparing it to the avantis solo? I’m still trying to decide. Thanks

I haven't got my hands on the DM7C or the Avantis solo yet, but I've mixed plenty on both the DM7 and Avantis. Check out this other series I did on the DM7 and you can see some of the key features I like - kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJ990byKetnglrg.html

@@MichaelCurtisAudio yes I already saw that video. It’s great info. One of the things that stops me from deciding on the avantis is the fact that I’ve seen many complaints on sticky faders and frozen screens. I spoke a few days ago with the regional representative and told me that issue was taken care of last year. I know these two are different price wise and I love Yamaha. But the avantis would be more attainable for me right now. Knowing the console would you buy and avantis for yourself to use professionally?

Nice introduction video Michael! What I wonder is, how do you get separate signals of your recording for each channel? It's great way for practice if you have multitrack recording on your computer.

My major shortcoming is understanding the dB ratio in terms of math, and soundsystem tuning - hope to learn that later. Also a major challenge for me has been / is getting hands on experience with the gear can be a bit of a challenge - for instance I'm Dante V2 L3 trained but haven't had the chance to use it in-person on a show site.

Hi Michael! So...if the subs are placed up to one half the wavelength of the crossover point (I'm using 80 Hz), you're still able to avoid power alleys and valleys? I'm I getting that correct?

Great video!! This is a terrific guide for both beginner and veteran engineers. At times i can feel complacent about learning new skills, or equipment standards, or simply am not around other A1 engineers often enough to see what "they are doing." WEaknesses for me: i need to spend time improving my knowledge of networking equipment, and speed of room tuning with SMAART. My colleagues would likely say my STRENGTHS are mixing musically, Soft skills with talent/team.

Super helpful and to the point especially when you mentioned how you calibrate your levels to use with BMD switchers as we use them and have been unsure if i was doing it correctly! So if i understood correctly if you hit ebu s2 standards the DBs should be at -16? Because i will meter externally to get -16 lufs but do dbs match the lufs metering or what? A bit confused here 😅
