Yup. I was miserable for 30 years because that was what I thought success meant. I quit my job, made my garage into a pottery and tiedye studio that I sell on weekends at fairs and festivals. I've never been more successful! As a bonus, I get to hang out with my kids and not miss them growing up. I also dropped 25lbs and BP has normalized! Being a cog in the corporate world was awful for me.

We actually discuss the topic in the podcast. As one ages, your natural hormones do decrease over time for both men and women. Taking hormones in your 20s when you in general produce a high amount of hormones is very different than taking hormones in your 70s when your hormone levels are much lower.

We had a smoking area in high school too, on-campus. Northern Calif., 1974 - 1978 for me. Not sure when it was established, or when it ended. There was easily more weed being smoked than cigarettes. Faculty sometimes walked thru on their way to or from their classroom or the cafeteria. For the most part, they ignored the obvious. There were a lot of young teachers and a few old "hippies," many of whom probably smoked weed themselves. The only downside (imho) was owed to our class schedule. Everyone had an "option period" which was basically an hour of your day when you could take an extra class if you wanted to, or no class at all. You chose which hour it was when you scheduled your classes at the beginning of the semester. During the 10 or 15 minute breaks between classes, mid-morning "milk break," and lunch, many made a beeline to the smoking area to smoke & get high. Invariably, there was always someone saying, "Anyone wanna cut 5th period with me?" (or any other period) which might be their option period, so they weren't actually cutting class. It was a tempting invitation to stay & get high some more, whether you had a class that period or not. Because every hour was was SOMEONE's Option Period, it was normal to ALWAYS see lots of students in the smoking area & not in class. I guess it was pretty much impossible for the school to tell who was cutting class and who was there legitimately, during their option period. This meant that you were FREE TO GET HIGHER THAN A KITE . . . ALL DAY, EVERYDAY, at least until attendance records made their way to your parents via a letter in the mail. Needless to say, none of this was very conducive to getting an education, not in academics anyway. Too much freedom, with no immediate consequences, at a young age. Damn, we had fun though! My counselor called me in a couple of times and eventually convinced me of the horrifying, humiliating likelihood that I would NOT be graduating with my class (or my friends!) if I didn't straighten up. I ditched the 'friends,' stopped getting high, and took 8 classes a day the next semester (including my Option Period and Lunch). I also took night classes at the community college (for high school credits) while attending summer school that year. Managed to accumulate enough credits TO GRADUATE EARLY, at the end of the first semester of 12th Grade. 👍
