Any real life applications, to bring mathematics alive in the classroom, OR is it just brain exercise??

man, i had forgotten this... moving the decimal. we didn't have calculators when i was in high school as far as can remember. (9th grade math was all we had to take unless you were taking college prep classes) calculators sure make math easier.

Hello Daniel, i'm an old guy going back to school and i'm starting at the beginning. i'm glad i found your channel because i'm going to take MDE 10 beginning this fall. i have a question on which book you're using. i've been told that the e-book is on the Hawkes website but i haven't asked which book it is. are you teaching from the Hawkes e-book and if so, which one are you using. thanks

Different colleges in the VCCS will use different textbooks. I'm not sure which textbook your college has adopted, but these videos should cover all the same topics. If you'd like to view the OpenStax Prealgebra playlist on this channel that covers those same topics with a book you can access for free, you can access that textbook here: openstax.org/details/books/prealgebra-2e.

While almost certainly not the textbook that you will be using for your course, if you would like to read a free online textbook that covers many of these same topics, you can check out the Contemporary Mathematics textbook from OpenStax: openstax.org/details/books/contemporary-mathematics. You can practice similar problems to those I am working from that textbook and answers to the odd-numbered exercises are provided in the back of the book. Your college bookstore will be able to provide you with information on the exact course materials for your section of MTH 154 that you are taking this summer, and your instructor will be able to provide you with a schedule of work for suggested homework and/or graded homework for the course when he or she goes over the syllabus with you (or if it's an online asynchronous course, the syllabus should become available for you to read the first day of class). The best thing you can probably do to get ready for MTH 154 is to practice your Prealgebra and Algebra 1 skills. You may want to check out these topics from the OpenStax Prealgebra textbook to help review those skills if you feel rusty in any of these areas: kzread.info/head/PLBpOIybtKeG_ZTSKcGO3dwQR0JfbE-TPw.
