    How strict are they on kit at this one, mate? Suggested list seems excessive. Cheers.

    The kit is in place because of how remote it is but there was no formal kit check they just say they expect you to carry it because you might need it especially if anything happened to you out on the course

    Hi Dom…… I was trying to be stood on the start line for this years “Fellsman”, but other commitments stopped me….. there is something about the Fellsman which draws you back yearly…. A fantastic atmosphere, great people and a fab, tough route… so 2025 I’ll be there for my 10th Fellsman, hopefully with Joe and fingers crossed you will be back too. The event finds the weaknesses in you and has certainly done that to me before, but you’ll come back stronger and complete the traverse.

    Great film Dom.. and inspiring assessment at the end.. I started doing longer runs 6 years ago.. age 54..from marathons to 50 milers.. then some extreme challenges .. I had momentum and got fitter and fitter.. and went further.. then the last year I’ve had injuries and not been able to train.. so doing the long ultras got harder and harder .. so have stopped to take stock and smell the roses and couldn’t be happier just now as I’ve stopped the juggernaut which was destroying me.. had a few DNF last year and knew I needed to stop.. ultras are hard on the body and mind and sometimes we need a break to reset .. you’re doing the right thing and will come back fitter and stronger in the mind and body.. you’ve done some great stuff and don’t need to prove yourself to anyone.. good luck and take your time.. best wishes.. Tom

    Why not just wind it all right back and enter some trail runs ranging from 10k up to half marathon? Lakeland Trails series for example. No presure, well organised, great people and a great day out. Or look at doing some of the shorter fell races? You'll get more confidence, can do more as recoveries will be shorter, get fitter and most importantly, enjoy them. Longer isnt always better, there will always be something more insane for every event you do. You can always built it back up to marathon and ultra distance if you want. Hope to see you out on the trails again soon. Take care pal

  • @Domsrunningjourney
    @Domsrunningjourney2 ай бұрын

    I will be looking at doing some shorter races once I’m fit enough to enjoy them I just struggle with the shorter ones being too competitive with them and trying to run faster than my capabilities and I then don’t enjoy feeling that rubbish

  • @Jake2009leeds
    @Jake2009leeds2 ай бұрын

    Great effort, it is a difficult thing getting training/race and recovery balance right. If you are looking for some shorter distance events with a great race day atmosphere and generous cut offs then I can recommend Punk Panther races, based out of Otley, North Leeds. 13/20 mile and higher trail races.

  • @Domsrunningjourney

    Good effort mate,it takes a lot of guts to be on that start line and even more guts to admit to yourself that changes need to be made. This sport we do and the community involved is the best and we are super lucky to be part of it, keep fighting mate and if you want something so bad you will find a way to achieve it. What an amazing effort! I hope that you aren't too disappointed to be proud of yourself because you still did brilliantly. I know how you feel with the fitness and training though, I was doing really well towards the end of '21 but the last couple of years have been a real struggle. I understand pulling out of your other events but could you not still do Endure 24? It's such a fun event whether you are doing one lap or 20, it's something you could still enjoy without the worry of a DNF or overdoing it.

  • @Domsrunningjourney
    @Domsrunningjourney2 ай бұрын

    Thank you. I did think about still going to endure and just trying to enjoy it but I know how competitive I get with myself and would have pushed myself too far. I’ll be there in 2025 fitter and with a goal of doing 100 miles
