This was really interesting because my grandmother was from Sheridan when it was a wild West town. She said it was exactly like the town on the television show Gunsmoke. Her brother Will Lewis had a ranch in Wheatland and was married to Hattie Click. Her father Daniel Click ran the Buckeye Mill in Sheridan. The original Valley View School was on my Great Grandfather's ranch at the top of the hill. The neighbors were Great Aunt Mary French and the Barker brothers, grandma's uncles. I never heard about the Russians since they came after everyone moved to Yuba City and Citrus Heights. The Holmes family used to hold reunions at Mt. Pleasant. My Great Uncle Ira is in Placer County history as one of the pioneers of the Fruit Industry. Thank you for making this history video. Thank you for documenting my grandmother's hometown! Martha Lewis Holmes and her sister Lula Lewis Briggs used to watch the television Western show Gunsmoke because it looked just like Sheridan. All the characters on Gunsmoke had equivalents in Sheridan and although they lived apart, they'd be on the phone together discussing all the events of their early life. From your video, I learned that Jonathon Briggs did not actually build the store as I had presumed. Their brother Will Lewis married Hattie Click, daughter of Daniel Click who bought the Buckeye Mill. She was in the Mark Hopkins mansion on Nob Hill in San Francisco many times with her father when she was a girl. My Great Grandfather Samuel Jackson Lewis bought the wagon freight stop out in Thermolands and built the first Valley View School on the ridge of his property. His brother Nathaniel was the Supervisor and doctor for the El Dorado mines in El Dorado Canyon along the Colorado River. Nathaniel had a boy and girl with a Chemehuevi Indian and when she died, he sent the kids to Sheridan on the train to attend school at Valley View. Samuel went to the Sheridan station to meet them unaware that they were natives until they were the only ones left at the station. Pieter van Tassel, Sparks, Nevada
