  Sanding gesso is not for the lazy person. Matter of fact, the whole thing is kind of a pain. BUT if you want a smooth, creamy surface it’s one of the best methods.

  Someone said one should wear a mask when using the sandpaper on gesso, but I have never tried gessoing a canvas yet, so I don't know.
