In the UK we call tiny bedrooms "box bedrooms" as they are so small. You can maybe get a bed in there or a cot with chest of drawers - that about it, really!
I like the way you still managed to get a dining table and chairs into the kitchen, even though it is quite small for an American kitchen. We turned our back door into a window so we could get a table and chairs in the corner. I think every kitchen needs a table as its the heart of the home
In the UK most houses are old. Mine is an 1908 Edwardian terraced house. Most terraced houses have 2 living rooms and one bathroom. These days a kitchen knocked into the dining room is popular but we keep the front living room separate so its like a snug winter room and somewhere for older kids to sit with their friends too or watch TV. I downsized in 2020 to get rid of my mortgage. Its made a big difference to my finances not having to pay for housing.

Our humane society charges $650 dollars and more for a dog. They are making it pretty unaffordable to adopt.
Stores are required to honor the price that an item is marked. With that being said they only have to honor 1 of said item. I’ve had people try to buy 10 of an item that was priced wrong and they get really upset when they couldn’t get all of them for the lower price
I don't know anything about tipping. We don't do this in New Zealand, Australia or UK. How do you tip when you stay in a hotel in USA (I'm going over next month) or when getting a ride in a taxi or Uber? Thanks. All suggestions welcome ❤

Paying off the house is a personal decision. I have the money to pay mine off...but choose not to. And that's ok. I have no other debt...and will never have any other debt ever again.
My 65 year old husband bought a new car recently. He didn't discuss it with me. One credit card company lowered his cc because they said he has too much debt. I'm not old enough to retire, but I am debt free.

I love the idea about dumpster diving which I have done and found money. And I use to do it by a company who sold fake flowers. I sold them for 3 4 a dollar....and made over 300 dollars....so dumpster diving is beneficial for those who don't think they can do it...😊😊😊

You did an excellent job informing about retirement. Well said. Everything you said is so true. The most challenging part to add is if you are taking care of an elderly. It consumes your time and you are not able to leave them and travel far away. Also your responsibility is focused on them.
As a mama of a severely special needs adult child, I understand the challenge of caring for family. Your words are a legitimate concern.
These are good books, but what advantage do you really have if you read the books that everyone else is reading? Try to find a banned ebook called mental cashflow. You'll thank me later

Great tips. I've heard most of these tips from other KZreadrs who speak about retirement. It's important to have a plan and account for inflation, medical expenses, taxes and longevity. Another mistake people make is putting too much money in 401ks and it's rather than Roth accounts. Roth accounts can save a lot of money in retirement because the money is withdrawaln tax free

So looking forward to my retirement at 65, thats in three years. Husbsnd and I live simply snd our state pensions will suffice for us . Here in Malta the state runs cheap or free courses in so many subjects, there are lectures on varied topics, cultural tours .... plus volunteering sr lleast once weekly. No more work for me, I want the luxury of not meeting people I don't want to meet, of having less structure in my day, reconnecting with those I do want to meet. Listen to me, I'm drooling slready ...

I don’t have a problem with about a half of these. I don’t dumpster dive myself but I don’t look at it as morally wrong. I think returning something that came from the dumpster to the store is stealing. I wouldn’t fake coupons or lie to get a discount but I would order a child’s meal if there were no age restrictions. I have ‘stolen’ pens or markers from work ( carried them home in my pocket )but I have also brought many pens from home that disappeared at work. I will use any ‘disposables’ any way I want to I paid for them. I won’t grab handfuls of napkins or condiments at restaurants. My conscious tells me what is right and wrong and I follow it.

For me it is the thought that I am beating the supermarkets at their own game and contributing as little as possible to greedy share holders. We live ( 2 adults) on foods that are on offer or reduced and I spend about £35 per week. We eat well, no junk food - meat and veg most days ( except for Meatless Mondays and Fishy Fridays). It is cheaper to eat fresh, provided you eat seasonally. Then comes my second reason for being frugal - i have better uses for the money - such as going out, once a month to eat at a very high end restaurant( s) which serves food i would not cook at home, which i throughly enjoy or going on a train trip or to the cinema!
I’m new to your channel and I’m just retired from a corporate job that required lots of travel. Now that I’m home I realized I have too much of everything! Clothes, shoes, beauty products and hotel soaps & lotions etc… I have my work cut out for me. I made individual baggies with new small products along with clean washcloths & towels and I’ve taken them to my local shelter for the homeless. It was hard getting rid of my business suites and fancy clothing but I found a place to donate called, “Working Women” for ladies out of jobs that need good clothes. My first drop off the ladies all gasped with excitement I didn’t expect that and I felt better after that. I’m still a work in progress. I love that you’re so frugal I am too now that I’m retired I cook healthy food we don’t dine out much at all I enjoy cooking organic foods even though they cost more we’re worth it! Right! I have been in the habit of having a cocktail or glass of wine every evening but listening to you I feel like we could cut back to 3 days a week then stop eventually. I look forward to watching more of your KZreads thank you for all the awesome ideas!🤗

I don’t understand, did you mention Medicaid , or Medicare fir your husband , if you claim you made more annual I doubt your husband is eligible for Medicaid, your income , would have to be well under what is considered poverty level, and I doubt you are in that activity?

I was one of the people who fell under the law of getting to collect Social Security after my Ex husband passed away and I could still work my job. I got very sick and had to retire before I planned at 68 , but I didn’t have to collect my own until I was 70 and then the amount had increased a lot. So I feel blessed that I have everything paid off and now can live comfortably, although not lavishly.

I’m not in the USA so healthcare is free for most people outside of the USA, it’s unfortunate healthcare is so expensive
I was managing a high end clothing and home style business which had a terrible return policy that began with: "If for ANY reason ..." No time limit or restrictions of any kind. There were prolific returns on brutally pilled, worn sheets that had torn, clothing worn by several children in a family before finally wearing out, curtains faded from the sun, and so on. There were also clients who would buy at full price and come in with an accordion file of receipts to be refunded the sale price difference. It was disgusting to me, but the company left themselves vulnerable to this abuse by their ridiculous policies. Eventually I was successful in lobbying to have the policy revised, including a reasonable time line for returns, and removing the markdown refund since they had the benefit of first pick of sizes, etc. We teach others how to treat us, so the company was at fault, IMO

7: I hated it when customers argued about expired but still up sales signage. I worked seasonal retail where this happened and the customer started cursing out the cashier and made her cry. Managers gave in and gave the price difference but the HQ flagged it and the store got into trouble for this.
How about someone who uses their parents address even when they have a home and their own address to get free services? Like Medicaid or EBT benefits and etc.? I think that is awful! What do you think?

For years I worked a job under the table to supplement my regular job when my kids were young. The government got enough money from me with my day job.
The only real problem with that is it doesn’t increase your SS amount. I have a friend who has been workjng under the table for years. So she can’t retire, because she won’t qualify for enough SS.
You are correct about Costco’s return policy! I couldn’t believe it but my sister recently returned a six year old mattress after her son left for college along with some other things she had bought and used and no longer wanted. She received over $900 back. Now she will buy things from Costco that she only plans on using once or twice and then she will return the items. I don’t agree with this but it doesn’t bother her.

I see 2 sides to taking advantage of store and return policies. The supermarkets are overcharging customers continually. This happens every time we shop.

I think dumpster diving, especially for food, is absolutely okay. Its trashed. I wish it could be donated instead. Public wifi, who cares. Theres no victim, theres no crime. Dont give em viruses or anything, but if youre just using the internet i think its fine. In terms of returning items, the crockpot guy took it pretty far but the dress, meh, as long as its still in good condition. For lying about ages, i don't really care. Most of these places who do that are big box and corporate places with much money to spare. Im not bothered. People are just trying to get by. Tax write off is shady. Generous return policies, hey they exist for a reason! It depends on the single use item but ill get a few uses out of something as long as its holding up. Dont steal from your job 😅 Fake ids is a lot of effort for like 15% off. Exploit the Heck out of free trials dude. Again, no victims, no crime. The megacorps will be fine. Im not gonna advocate for trying to trick the IRS, no comment 😂😂😂
