RIP ORCA. Spielberg was just a bit angry when he found out the ORCA was scrapped. I don't see why they couldn't have pulled it from the water & repaired it then left it on land. Or put a protective coating on bottom to protect the wood.

The people they hired to remodel the boat for the movie did an incredible job. When they bought the boat back it was never the same. Where was Hollywood before this boat struggling with B movies. They owe a lot to that boat. The real heroes are the ones that got it ready for the movie. The Orca was a big character as well.

The Orca was beached on a marsh in Menemsha, Martha’s Vineyard in 1977 and my friends and myself climbed on it and up the mast for pictures. The transom was gone. Probably for the last shot in the movie when the shark climbed up on it.
@jezuscristo4898 ай бұрын
There were 2 Orcas, the full functional one, and a mock up that they used to sink and refloat, the one you saw at Martha's Vineyard was the mock up that was in private property, the true one was bought by Universal to the MGM studios to be there on the "Jaws Ride", unfortunately, when they were trying to hoist the vessel to do major repairs on the hull and decks , and because the vessel was full of water, the now fragile hull wasn't enable to hold all that weight and broke in 2.

They are in his office. I have the hardcover edition of Memories from Martha's Vineyard with the 1 inch piece of the Orca 2 ( resinkable). Best shark MOVIE EVER. Was the billboard hang in backlot the OG from movie. And saw the original boat from Gilligans Island before it was modified. It looked almost the same as what the Orca looked like before it was made into the Orca.
