Probably the most fascinating part of the entire transformation... The fact is, well before time of this final molt that reveals the chrysalis, the 'caterpillar' is really no longer a caterpillar at all, but actually a chrysalis within the now non-functional caterpillar skin. None of its legs or mouthparts work any longer or are movable, which explains why they completely disappear when the chrysalis molts the final larval skin.

Thank you. I just love our backyard! I spend as much time out there as I can, we’ve had a nice spring so far (though it has rained on most weekends! Grr! But the heat and humidity have not started. Yet. We are on borrowed time now

These can be planted two to four weeks before your last frost In MI you can plant them in mid April If a hard frost or freeze is coming bring them into the garage overnight If a light frost you can cover them
