The most interesting thing about songs like this (also, the original 9-minute Board of Governors song in the 1994 recording) is just how damn good Frank Wildhorn used to be at writing ALW-style recitative sequences. I find it so weird that he developed into a guy who mostly writes predictable verse-chorus-verse-chorus pop fare, because he clearly had the talent (and ambition?) for more.

i don't know why they made this lucy's song, it feels like an extremely lazy cut. lucy's girls of the night and no or knows who i am were perfect, along with her someone like you and a new life solos. this good and evil song seems way more like the villain song- it makes more sense for stride to sing it in his bitchy voice, this is how he sees the world and it is with such bitterness he says this, it's just dark..

I know the best part of this song is that high C when he sings "as if I" and also "made of stone" at the end, but I can't get the part where he sings "until the day I die" at 3:46 out of my head. It is so clear, steady, and controlled that it almost makes me want to cry. He's just so good and talented and hits these notes with perfect clarity, all *without* auto-tune! Modern pop singers *wish* they had the raw talent Michael Arden has! Absolutely stellar performance!

i was participating in goth going to clubs, etc. in the 90's there were tons of people who really went all out on the look much like the folks in this vid. i still participate in it, enjoy it, etc. but fer the most part the number of peoples at the clubs who go all out with the look are very small in number. nowadays here in L.A. people really dress down and alot just simply throw on basic black clothing and that's as far into the look as they go. that's fine thangs change but i gotta say i do miss the times where peoples went all out. like the peoples in this vid. they all look awesome.

STREET PEOPLE If you live around here, you need plenty of cash 'Cos the houses 'round here was designed by John Nash An' the front bit is what's called a facade! All the people 'round here are as posh as can be. You won't see 'em hob-nobbin' with rubbish like me. It's the snob bit, also called a facade! Every day people in their own sweet way Like to add a coat of paint and be what they ain't! That's how their little game is played Livin' out their masquerade Gettin' rich an' gettin' laid! Who'd want to trade? But there's one thing I know an' I know it for sure This disease that they've got has got no ready cure. An' I'm certain life is terribly hard When yer life's a facade! Every night here on house or another is a fun house 'Cos of someone givin' a party as you see, Sir! This one here tonight is rather special - am I right? It's the betrothal of Sir Danvers' daughter, Lisa! Sir Danvers Carew is a good man They call him "La creme de la creme". Whatever that means, he's a bloody sight better than them! Nearly everyone you meet when walking down a London street Pretends to be a pillar of society. A model of propriety, sobriety and piety Who's never even heard of notoriety! The ladies an' gents here before you Which none of 'em ever admits May have saintly looks, but they're sinners an' crooks Hypocrites! If you live around here you need plenty of flash, If you live in town, dear, then you must cut a dash. 'Tisn't hard, dear, to create a facade! You must seem to be rich and have money to burn. Even though it's a bitch, spending more than you earn. That's the game here and the name is facade! One or two might look kinda well-to-do. But I betcha precious few have paid for their boots! I'm inclined to think half mankind thinks the other half is blind. Wouldn't be surprised to find they're in cahoots! At the end of the day they don't mean what they say They don't say what they mean, they don't ever come clean. An' the answer is it's all a facade! Call a walk "Promenade", call a street "Boulevard" Grease yer hair with "Pomade" you'll be held in regard. An' I betcha if you stay on your guard They'll all say you're a "Card". People love the facade. What's behind the facade? Look behind...the facade!

Sir Danvers: Your highness, dear lady, the pleasure is mine. A party announcing a marriage must shine. The good doctor Jekyll's an admirable choice, Occasions like this gives us cause to rejoice. It's not everyday that one's daughter's engaged- Lady Beconsfield: -Which seems to have left several suitors enraged! Sir Danvers Well one chap for sure over there Simon Stride- Was confident he would make Lisa his bride, Which just goes to show that however well matched- one shouldn't count chickens or brides till their hatched! the engagement party i remember better times only too well though it seems an eternity, it was but two months ago on a warm late September's eve all of London's elite had arrived at the stately home of sir danvers carew, the chief of surgery at prestigious Nuget hospital to celebrate the recent engagement of sir danvers' daughter lisa, to my good friend and client, doctor henry jekyll what a night that was, full of high spirit and bright hope! who could have possibly foreseen the tragedy that was to play out in the coming weeks... sir danvers, sir danvers, you've done it again! another great party with crème de la crème sir danvers, sir danvers, you've got to be proud with all of the royalty here in this crowd thank you, dear ladies it's my true delight to celebrate lisa' engagement tonight sir danvers, sir danvers we love the effect of throwing a party we didn't expect who'd ever guess henry jekyll would win your daughter's hand, what did she see in him? pardon, sir danvers, but might i inquire? about dr. scheisse and his well known desire for lisa he's carried a torch all these years he thought she was his until jekyll appeared how did scheisse take it, was he in a rage when jekyll and lisa had gotten engaged? was he? my disposition is none of your catty(?) business, madam dr. scheisse! i- catch(?) your gossip from another patch(?) william! never, never let it be said william scheisse is a sore loser! ah, danvers, where is lisa? i've come to wish her and the good doctor all the happiness they deserve! she'll be down soon. in the meantime, come did you see what i saw? did you hear what i heard? didn't dr. scheisse seem to stagger a touch? yes, i saw what you saw yes, i heard what you heard i think dr. scheisse has been drinking too much! now he's lost his only romance oh, please! dr. scheisse had his chance don't tease, he might ask you to dance you never know where that might lead may i have this dance? i thought you'd never ask would you care to dance? with you? of course a dance, mademoiselle? mais oui, monseiur, mais oui! oh, mademoiselle, oui mais, oui mais! i'm not one to gossip, but in passing by i overheard jekyll was horribly shy.. i don't believe rumors- but listen to this! i heard it was lisa who threw the first kiss yes, she's a bit foreword, i hear oh please, how could she domineer? really(?) she's a tut little dear she's a girl who's ahead of her time i never spread rumors except when they're mine but i heard that lisa has been rather wild that when lisa's mother had just passed away seems no one could guess what she would do or say now she's got herself a real fine to me, henry jekyll's divine there'll be one of london's refine and i would give anything give her anything to trade her future for mine or mine - or mine! or mine! henry jekyll, where the devil have you been? have you forgotten that this party's in your honor? i don't know where the time went, i'm sorry john you'll be late for your own funeral oh, but john, i've been working on something quite marvelous! i'm finally doing what i've long known i would oh, really? well, what is it? not here, not tonight maybe after tomorrow why tomorrow? i make my proposal before the board at the hospital tomorrow morning, and if they give me their approval i'm convinced you're going to see something great- something extraordinary! trying to save the world again, henry` just a small part of it, john.. but i can make a difference i know i can what i've discovered is everything wonderful something a scientist dreams all his life never before have i felt this incredible never before has it all gone so right! henry jekyll how'd you did it how'd you capture the heart of sir danvers' girl? lisa's quite a catch, now you've met your match you're the envy of every man unattached henry! sir danvers how are you, sir? we've been worried about you ah- sir danvers, henry was just telling me about his uh- his new idea he's bringing to your committee tomorrow yes yes of course, you might well imagine we're breathlessly awaiting henry's recitation his engagement to wed my only child is most certainly of secondary importance. i beg your forgiveness, sir danvers i had a few last minute details to tend to in my lab please forgive me for i was involved with problems to solve with answers to ferret out, positively i'm on the right track and all that i lack is money and time and the space to be free and you'll see that i'll make you all proud indeed! tomorrow you'll see what the future is all about what i'll reveal is a glorious plan tomorrow i'll show you exactly the why and how tomorrow i'll show you the future of man, tomorrow- henry jekyll let me be the first to wish you and your bride to be only prosperity thank you scheisse it's quite civil of you not to quibble i too want the best for us, i agree tell me jekyll how'd you do it? how'd you capture the heart of sir danvers' girl? in another light this could be my night girls like lisa come by only once in a life! she's warm like the sunshine in may so warm she stole my breath away and now there's (/no) reason to my life my god, john- look at her! lisa, oh so beautiful you are dazzling! standing there, so young, so fair you shine! lisa you are beautiful, oh so dazzling! lisa.. lisa... lisa.... oh dear henry, you are beautiful how you thrill me now the stars shine you're so beautiful when you're near! i was lost but now i'm found, now you've turned my life around... like a shelter in the storm, you are safe and you are warm to me... dear henry.... friends, if i may propose a toast to lisa and henry, i raise a glass to you both, to a long, long life together filled richly with happiness and prosperity, may god save the queen!
