At this point. It appears that ivry is there to keep her energy consistent. A build and control so she doesnt lose focus. She is easily guided still. Needing direction. Unlike a master where they literally bond with the piece and almost become vacant to reality. He is helping her to understand this and feel the music as it flows so one day she can just space out and play from the heart as he does

I've attended multiple Master Classes and spoken to many, many violin students about what 'they' expect from such classes; ...they're almost unanimous response is ''distractions, stress, criticism and harassment'', but all in a loving and funny, manner. ~ Why-?, ...because, they've told me; ''if'' you can play, and play well under such ''||}*@^{$#%||'' conditions, then it toughens-up your focus and determination to successfully perform on stage, especially if something should go wrong. Master Classes for students [and 'they' know what they're going to experience] is like an Emotional Military 'Boot-Camp; only the strong survive.

The student plays wonderfully, but how does it help her for Mr. Gitlis to sing *while she is playing*? IMHO his singing short parts of phrases while she plays serves only to distract the student and the listeners. I think it would be far better for him to keep quiet during the performance, and offer his comments afterwards.

It's supposed to be educational. An experienced musician can bring out the best in young performers. Young performers go too hard in the beginning and end up short-winded. Ivry is actually conducting her and giving cues that, though ridiculous to us, must have been enriching to her. That's the whole idea behind Masterclasses. In other words, the audience's pleasure is not the point of this performance, and definitively not that of some virtual KZread horde that barely know their Mendelssohn!
@mistress9sama3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't mind the singing and it's either he is feeling the flow or he just want to make sure the violinist gets the staccato and rhythm on point. It doesn't serve as a distraction but more of a suggestion in how to get the piece down in his opinion. Any person who has played a musical instrument know to look for constrictive criticism and critiques as valuable learning steps especially if It's a master class with a virtuoso.
@anosjk2 жыл бұрын
C'mon, baby, he is a Master. He does whatever he wants to. And Mendelssohn he has been playing with absolute perfection since the beginning of the Fifties. It was a privilege for the girl to be heard by the master and of course he was moved by her performance. I've found no difference between her performance and that from the master, which was made in 1954, if I quite recall, for Vox Records.She already is one of the greatest, remember this name : Marie Rossano.
