I have been trying to feel this song correctly, I just can't do it, my brain is too stupid The half-time part falls into place perfectly though, but I quickly lose it afterwards I will watch this video on repeat until I understand it XD

What absolutely baffles me is how they can possibly keep this pulse in mind while playing it live time and time again.

This almost like when a magician reveals how they do a trick. Simultaneously super interesting but makes it seem more mundane. It’s a brilliant way to properly explain the rhythm though. I’ve heard it with a click and it still made no sense. This finally reveals it

For fucks sake man, you really did this. I've always felt and known that I've been hearing Combustion the "wrong" way, and I have tried to displace my perception of the pulse while listening to the song, but it is too damn difficult and I've given up every damn time. Even with hearing your drumming on top it's still difficult, I'm slipping helplessly back and fourth in time, like a piece of paper blowing in the wind, and I love it <3

As a drummer I really appreciate how you were able to reinterpret the song in the way that feels natural to you. As a guitarist, oh my god you’ve ruined all the riffs please stop 😭

I don’t think that I’ll ever be able to hear it like this, and I’m not sure that I want to because I like how I’ve been hearing it (first note is beat 1) Both ways are weird. The “beat 1” way has a lead-in with high hat on up beats, a part with the snare a 16th after 3, and Jens singing mostly upbeats. But your way has the very first note be anticipated and that entire riff being upbeats (which is VERY VERY hard to hear), and Jens starting verses anticipated which is a thing he never does. Honestly, anticipation isn’t a common thing for Meshuggah to do, but it’s also an uncommon song the other way. At the end of the day it’s brilliantly ambiguous which is how we can even debate it.
