I've only been playing tuba for about 1.5 years, and I had to play this excerpt for an audition. Watching this video made me understand everything better. I did make it, btw. This dude saved me from failure

I was counting along with the held D but for some reason switched to cut time. After trying to figure out which one of us miscounted and realizing it was still in 4/4, I literally yelled "OH SHIT."

Wow, very impressive!! So many great things happening! Definitely feels and sounds like you're just playing the notes in time and accurate but maybe not have an exact musical idea. I was sad to see the g after the trill cut off so soon. This needs to be held out much more and feel like the end of the phrase. Listen to the piece more, maybe loosen up some and you're gonna kill it even more! Also the pitch was a little off in the first half but got better later. Easy fix! Keep it up!

Your sound and control are astonishing. however this kind of piece/music is quite common in Tuba repertoires: nearly impossible for amateur tubists to play, and most importantly not so pleasure for audiences. It seems that there's a giant (technical) gap between "easy" pieces and those "advanced" pieces. What's your opinion on this issue?
Жыл бұрын
First of all let me say you thank you for your kind words! In my opinion it can be pleasure for the audience, too. Just you have to listen it with "another" ear. And of course there is a big gap between the pieces. This is the prove of progress.
