I've lived all over the country and fort collins is trash. super expensive, super congested, mostly snobby people, absolutely deplorable food quality and prices at restaurants, terrible weather the majority of the year, nonstop wind. Anyone who lives here and enjoys it has not experienced living in a good city in the US.

If you have to walk more than three blocks, a third of a mile, to catch a bus, your city's bus system has failed you. Public transportation should be within a casual walk of ten minutes, not thirty minutes... If you have to ride a bicycle to a bus stop, well, you are better off buying a e-bike and using it instead of a car or truck for local distances up to 20 miles, preferably for less than 10 miles...

@@LivinginFortCollinsColorado I love your videos, Patrick, and was a very early subscriber. As a FTC resident, I respectfully disagree that the City is “doing great” when safety and reliability (obviously base requirements for any transportation system) cannot be met. I know they struggled to hire drivers during COVID etc etc. But it’s not meeting standards. I lived in NYC for years and know what it’s like to commute on public transportation. I would gladly do so again but I live far from these transit centers and would need to take at least one transfer. Until the City fixes safety and frequency/reliability, it cannot be “great”.

  • @LivinginFortCollinsColorado

Haha that all makes sense. I suggested that 60% of my experience did meet my exceedingly low expectation. But I was pleasantly surprised. New York City is actually one of the only profitable public transportation systems in the world. I HOPE that Fort Collins continues to invest and do better, but I’m glad there are options out there even if they aren’t great. Thank you for commenting and engaging!!

The one I agree with is the festivals pushed out since the pandemic. Getting rid of Bohemian nights/New West Fest was a major blow to the Fort Collins music culture. Taste of foco is barely hanging on by a thread. This years event was a super low turnout. FocoMX is very expensive now. On another note regarding the pandemic, the biggest thing I miss since the pandemic is coffee shops in old town staying open past 6:00/7:00. With that said FOCO is still amazing! The one about

I moved to Fort Collins and it is a nice little town with a good climate but the local people have a horrible attitude. Everyone asks me why I moved here. You can tell that the local people don't like people from other places and for reasons I cannot understand they are arrogant. It is like they think this little rural town is posh or something. It doesn't make any sense and when the wind blows just right I smell cows depending on what side of town you happen to be on. The entire city is no more than 10 miles wide and the locals seem to act as if it's a long way from one end of town to the other. On top of that there isn't really anything to do other than eat at a restaurant. And everyone is biased to the part of town they live in and it is all just about the same anyway. As soon as the housing market improves I'm selling.

Before we moved to Colorado, we evaluated all the communities along the Front Range. We were disappointed in the views of all of them except Colorado Springs - well, the ones we could afford (aka not Golden or Boulder). It really is hard to get over that first view of the valley coming off Monument Hill / Palmer Divide. However, we really enjoyed walking around downtown Ft Colins. We could see why Disney copied elements of it for Main Street USA. Since I'm fully remote, I don't need to be too close to Denver - so it was a hard pass on it. But, we love being within 90 minutes of the larger city for special events and the bigger airport. I also love having the COS airport which has direct flights to a handful of places and getting thorough TSA is a breeze vs DIA. I also like that I have easy access to Summit County ski resorts via the back way (US 24 + CO 9) instead of waiting 4 hours just to reach Loveland Ski area on I-70. I think the climates are similar, although I think Ft Colins has more wind. Ft Colins is further north but Colorado Springs is higher in elevation - so they stay about 5F cooler than Denver - which is nice in the summer. In the winter, thankfully, the snow isn't much of an issue here - it normally melts off in a day or so. We get 2-3 decent snow storms each year but mostly a few flakes or up to an inch - but nothing too big. Just enough to look pretty, then go away. While not a "top" destination - Colorado Springs does have a tourism industry with Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, 7 Falls, Manitou Springs, etc. Plus with 5 military bases in the area, it is unlikely _all_ off them would leave at once. The military in the area means while the city is overall politically "purple" - that means that the area is more conservative overall than most other areas of the Front Range - especially compared to places like Boulder and Denver. Being the second largest city with nearly 500k residents does mean the Springs has its share of growing pains - as with any desirable location.

Great video. I lived in Windsor for a year a couple years ago. I enjoyed it and it's a beautiful and safe town but it shuts down at 9:00pm. Fort Collins is nice because you can hit up a pub or coffee shop later at night. I realize the two demos that make up 99% of Windsor are retirees and young families so it's missing the 19-30 & single people demo so late night options may never be a thing but seems like it could handle a handful of places open till midnight. It also might keep tax revenue going to Fort Collins/Loveland/Greeley.

Can you speak to what may or may not be be happening the block of homes on Osiander street in old town north-a bunch a framed, some nearly finished, a few only have foundations. What I never really thought about until recently is there is no "downtown" or "old town neighborhood" like many small towns have. Wellington, Johnstown, Windsor all have a small strip of old commercial buildings as well as neighborhoods from the early 1900's. It's crazy there really isn't many buildings homes built in Laporte before the what seems like the 70's.
