Saw them many times over the first years of punk. They were the best in the period performing the material from the first album. Raw and personal in small venues. After they hit the mainstream seeing them live, they lost that edgy feel.

I grew up listening to The Stranglers but now bizarrely through his work, my nephew is on first name terms with Hugh and introduced me to the main man a couple of years ago at one of Hugh's gigs in edinburgh!

What the fuck happened to the sound half way through. The keyboard goes up to 11 and the band drops to 4 for the rest of the song. Barely hear Brunels epic bass double slides.

when i was a teenager, i thought the stranglers were brilliant but as i got older, i moved on to other music, and tnought they were just one of those teenage obsessions- i have started listening to them again now, 40 years later, and have realised that the stranglers were actually one of the greatest bands of all time
