The inspection is the most important part. If Its not perfect then You lack respect. The white glove is the whole reason. These guards are flawless and have the dignity to guard in all weather. This tomb hasn't been left since the 50's. Thats 24 hours a day since

Of having the opportunity and pleasure of traveling to several countries, I was asked , what is the most profound sight that had made a lasting impression on me . I replied , WITHOUT A DOUBT IT WAS CHANGING OF THE GUARD AT THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER. STILL BRINGS TEARS AND FILLS MY HEART. This modern day pantomime is embarrassing and ultimately disrespectful to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Go look at film from the 60’s or 70’s, there was none of these ridiculous theatrics, this nonsense is more about the guards than what the tomb represents, it’s a tourist performance.

I read somewhere that there steps marching are "21" steps 2:36 (you'll see different variations of this when a soldier matches). Also I think once on solo duty, the soldier stops for 21 seconds before moving again.

Notice the 21 steps and he stops. (for the 21 gun salute) 0:42 for example, the guard walking on the carpet takes 21 steps. I think the movements too, the sentinel stops for 21 seconds, before moving again.

Can you imagine not only th attention to detail and training , but how closely thy have to work with those sargents to gt it millimeter closs like that? like I imagine a training session where the guy gos "So then I'm going to put my face right next to yours, please don't budge or even breath too hard or you'll knock my hat off my head"
