    Why are you adding grease when pressing in the axles housings? Seems like that would make it a bitch to not contaminate the weld

    this looks so simple that i want and would have to confidence to put this together by myself.... except for one part, which would be the welding part... i have no idea have to weld correctly/ i get how to but i wouldn't be able to weld and know if it was good.

    Can you build one for the front of a F650? I think a chromoly shaft and truetrac unit would be great internals, but would need the outer hub setup for 10x285.75 bolt pattern with disc brakes. For residential contracting, it’d be plenty strong

    My steering is only hooked up to the passenger side knuckle on top. The front of knuckles connect both sides together. Could I use the solid bushing and be okay even though the steering is hooked up to one side? Or should I find a way to connect both knuckles from the top instead of the front? I wish I could send a picture on here lol

  • @Mike-xn1bh
    @Mike-xn1bh2 жыл бұрын

    You shouldn’t have any issues just running high-steer (attached passenger side knuckle to the pitman arm). The solid bushing should be installed on both sides as it removes the weak kingpin spring.

    Because kingpins are always trouble, death wobble, spring center pins break, rides like shit, u joint junk. Honestly you get just as much time out of ball joint suspension under normal use as solid axles but much easier to fix. Only thing king pins have over ball joints is durability. Other than that they are no better.

    I'd imagine that nice, solid cover helps to mitigate the added stress from the removed section of the housing. Dana 80 or shaving at 14... 🤔 This would've been a nice video to break out a TIG torch! Then again, TIG welders always think everything is a nice time to burn!

    This is going to be my last build... That said, I noticed a guy wanting portals on axles that were designed to be the last ones you ever needed. Seems counterintuitive to put a portal box on an able axle meant to crush rocks on a hopper/bouncer. Maybe on a highway set of gears in the 3-4's for lift too, but these axles are not what he's needing. Portals on a Dana 80 ring/pinion = transfer case delete and one more week link with a new breaking point?! 🤔🤣🤣

I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure through how it could be done with the portal box being permanently mounted to the axle and the inner-C and rear spindle attaching to the outside of the box. Can it also be used in conjunction with Moog's lower adjustable king pin kit. This would be used in a 92 dodge club cab long bed cummins 4x4. Like eliminating the spring. Ron
