    That sounds like where Im from. Can only call someone close by for a boost if needed. Or if it’s a standard , push it fast enough to get back in and put it in gear and let the clutch out to turn the engine. Don’t forget to put the key on first. But that’s a great idea. The only danger I see is overcharging.

    I had the same problem here in Canada with one headlight I had replaced with a salvage yard yellowed headlight. I sprayed a rattle can clear I had on hand, after spraying I had the same result as you (didn't know about the heat gun trick!). Looked at the can and noticed it said nothing about being "plastic" friendly as the other clears I have used on headlights in the past. I guessed that was the issue and ended up re-sanding and spraying with plastic friendly clear.

  • @justahandchannel

    I am advised by another youtuber - someone who has used this for years in a commercial operation, so perhaps every week - the concentration of phosphoric works better if it is 8 - 12 percent. This is because you need Hydrogen ions in the water to be added and free moving, for maximum efficiency. This affects greatly the reaction that takes place. Cut the phosphoric with water - adding the acid to the water not the other way round. And - do NOT wash off with water. The only acid you don't remove with water - the acid binds to the surface and protects. Be particularly careful if considering applying to threads and springs.

  • @justahandchannel
    @justahandchannel16 күн бұрын

    I concur that exposure to oxygen is essential, however, the concentration of acid does not directly influence the level of oxygen exposure achieved. This assertion lacks logical basis. While dilution may be attempted, for optimal outcomes in the treatment of severe rust, I recommend adhering to my prescribed method.

    As a shipwright, Phosphoric acid is indispensible. Thanks for laying out the proportions for first-timers. I have not heard of the ethanol addition before.... I will try it out. I have found that a coat of undiluted Phos overnight will actually dissolve rust without the severe pitting caused by HCl. It will leave a sticky residue which I wash off with hot water and air-dry. I then recoat with 1:2 Phos solution and let that airdry. This leaves a whitish powdery coating (the iron phosphate) which is protective, so dont wipe it off. This can then be paint-primed, or be sealed with epoxy. I am keen to see what the ethanol adds.... speeds up the air-drying🤔? Thanks for this neat video. There are a million rust-cure you-tubes, but yours is straight to the point, and I know it works.

    Rust is a form of iron oxide. When you apply phosphoric acid, the chemical composition of the metal transforms into iron phosphate. If the process is executed correctly, the resulting substance is no longer iron oxide. Consequently, the remaining material can be considered rust free.
